Totalitarian Soviet Communism as NBC Fashion Statement?
MRC.org ^ | 4/17/06 | staff

Tim Vincent, the Britain-born New York correspondent for Access Hollywood, sported a hammer and sickle T-shirt on Friday's show as he stood in front of NBC's Rockefeller Plaza complex and introduced a piece on American Dreamz, the movie takeoff of American Idol. Though he wore a jacket over the red shirt with the symbol of the regime which murdered tens of millions and oppressed hundreds of millions more for decades, a gold hammer and sickle was clearly visible inside a red star. The gold-outlined red star, sans the hammer and sickle, matches the Soviet's Red Army emblem. I don't get it. Is this some kind of cool statement with thirtysomethings, elite New Yorkers or Brits? Or is it just part of some promotion for an upcoming movie? Imagine the proper outrage that would explode if he had worn a Nazi swastika. I put "hammer and sickle t-shirt" into the Copernic search engine and though I did not find the exact shirt adorned by Vincent, I was shocked to find a couple of dozen sites which sell hammer and sickle T-shirts -- and mugs too. Not at all unusual to see Che, Lenin, or Mao T-shirts worn by the filthy commies up here in Seattle.

Speaking of American Dreamz I read an article on it today and the guy spoofing the President, Dennis Quaid, voted for Bush in 2004 so he says.

If they didn't have some symbol of abject failure to display, how would they know what they did for a living?

I never heard of the show til now. There has to be at least 14 people working in Hollywood that voted GOP in the last 20 years. ;o)

Good point. I figure I could get pretty rich starting a religion prophesizing the return of Lenin in these parts.

Well, the Soviets did have a cool aesthetic going. You have to give them that. It may be insensative to wear the imagery, but the fact is the USSR never achieved the notoriety of other murderous regimes for whatever reason.

They overachieved the notoriety in normal minds; that of conservatives and our greatest President since TR. But the left still pines for communism and make no mistake, the murders would follow if they attained power again.

In NYC at the auto show I saw kids wearing Che shirts and hooded sweatshirts. One kid even had a CCCP shirt (it was covered to some degree by all the bling bling junk).

Sometimes I wish people could really have a taste of what they seem to want.

There's nothing like pop culture communism.

I guess the stupidity of making anti-capitalist socialism a consumer culture fashion statement is lost on them.

Or perhaps they're just clowns, anyway.

Worse than clowns, IMO. At least clowns offer some societal benefit.

Assuming the standard "Spruce holds his forehead in one hand while shaking his head in a 'negative' fashion" pose while muttering the word moron.

I'd rather see the kids wearing the gangsta pants down at their knees with the oversized winter coats in June then to see kids with commie propaganda.

Thew bodies have been snatched. Here too. Compare the reaction here or elsewhere to a swastika, symbolizing a system long dead and gone that should be forgotten, and to hammer and sickle. symbolizing a system that is doing quite well in some parts of the world (and in the minds of our academics and intellectuals.) The Soviet propaganda machine that is the author of this acceptance of evil present and hatred of evil historical, won the battle. Mirror, mirror on the wall.

No, the leftists are still alive and kicking, but I'm confident that they will continue to implode, as they have been doing for the last 25 years. We just need to keep the boot to their throats so they never regain national power.

though I am far from a Michael Savage fan, he is correct that today's version of "liberalism" is a mental disorder.
