Russian bombers flew undetected across Arctic - AF commander

MOSCOW, April 22 (RIA Novosti) - Russian military planes flew undetected through the U.S. zone of the Arctic Ocean to Canada during recent military exercises, a senior Air Force commander said Saturday.

The commander of the country's long-range strategic bombers, Lieutenant General Igor Khvorov, said the U.S. Air Force is now investigating why its military was unable to detect the Russian bombers.

"They were unable to detect the planes either with radars or visually," he said.

Khorov said that during the military exercises in April, Tu-160 Blackjack bombers and Tu-95 Bears had successfully carried out four missile launches. Bombing exercises were held using Tu-22 Blinders.

By the end of the year, two more Tu-160s will be commissioned for the long-range strategic bomber fleet, Khorov said.

Both new planes will incorporate numerous upgrades from the initial Soviet models, the commander said. The bombers will be able to launch both cruise missiles and aviation bombs, and communicate via satellite.

Blinders? I though they were decomm'd. Too damn old.

My thought also, maybe they meant Tu-22M Backfire, rather than Tu-22 Blinder.

Tu-22M Backfire

The only reason at this time to tell this story of air space incursion, mind you IF the Russian story is true, would be to take advantage of the very poor public support ratings for the President. The Russians, especially Putin, are not fans of the President. They might use this to try and embarrass Bush in the American media.

Think of the sound bites from Pelosie, Kennedy, Ried, et al:
"Our forces are stretched sooooo thin by this illeagle war, that we could not defend ourselves from a HUGE attack across the pole. Bush should be impeached!"

This story is pure media manipulation, against the President.

If Putin had ever shown himself to be as foolishly vindictive as our Democrats, I would cheerfully concede your point. Sad to say, Pootie-poot is no fool.

TU-22M Blinder

Oops that picture is the Tu-22. I had originally thought the article said Tu-22M, because I guess I couldn't believe the Russians still have Tu-22s flying. Then when I corrected the photo and the link to the Tu-22, I forgot to change the caption as well.

Plasma Stealth technology can be attached to any model aircraft. This would make old Bear and Backfire aircraft invisible to radar, and would require that avaitors stay up to sight the aircraft, like they did in the '50's before DEW was built.

Guys,
Please don't believe everything you read in the news. The Russians announce all of their out of area long range operations to the west. In similar fashion they also announce a window on ballistic missile launches.

These announcements are confidence building measures so that an accident does not happen. The Russians announce to the west through diplomatic channels and the press that an exercise will take place. Within in that announced time frame they conduct their exercise / ballistic missile launch etc.

What you see in the media is simply a commander spinning a story and a journalist tweaks it further.

In reality eight USAF F-15s from Alaska intercepted the four Tu-95MS (BEAR Hs)initially. As the bombers flew on off Canada the Canadian took over with their CF-18s. On the 11th the Russians did a similar long-range flight against Japan.

This is a classic case of don't believe everything you read in the media!

They are. It is simply a journalist spinning very badly a boast from a Russian commander. Four Tu-95MS flew up over the Arctic along the North American coast. Intercepted by USAF Eagles and Canadian Hornets.

Commies up to their old tricks again PING!!!! ==

When you grew up and stop call Russians as "commies". Today Russia is less commie then Europian Union.

Possibly Plasma Stealth???==

Someone told here on FR that plazma stealth will emit badly in infrared band. SO Norad will pick up its emitings easily.

Russian scientists are very smart. No wonder, since US confirmed that by using russian mathematician Ufimtsev invention for her stealth. Surprised?:) Maybe those "pesky" russians devised something very new again:).

Actually, they kept flying south and weren't detected and interdicted until they landed in Queens and offloaded a container of sex slaves and counterfeit credit cards, but were released because they were just offloading the sex slaves and counterfeit credit cards Amercians couldn't be bothered to offload.

TU-95 is not more ancient then B-52. But Tu160 is not more ancient then B1B. So what was your point?

About druncardness I would say that I encounter many people in american pubs and drank with them. I withness that the most of them easily over drink me. We drink equally but I went down under table but they continue to drink further.

So it is the big question to find out who REALLY drinks more: Russians or americans.

BTW did you learn the difference between energy nuclier reactor and uranium enrichment? Still no? Seems like you incapable to learn science:)).

B1 was copied? How so? Does Russians stole B1 blueprints? If so it just means that US counter-intellegence is "crude garbage" indeed:).

1. What about rocket Souz? Still flying you know. Recently NASA became to buy the launches since shuttles was banned as unsafe. Before NASA it was Europian Union who bought whole production to launch them from french cosmodrome Kuru.

2. What about RD-180 rocket engine? http://www.spaceandtech.com/digest/sd2000-37/sd2000-37-003.shtml
Why Boeing buy it for his advanced rockets Altas-5?

I may continue but save your embarassment. Seems like you know even less then middle grader?:)) Go back to school and learn something!
