"Denton County Man Held in Torture that Killed Puppy" (dragged, doused with gasoline, set on fire)

A man suspected of burning and stabbing a pit bull puppy that later died was arrested early Thursday, according to reports.

Deshann Brown, 21, was arrested shortly after midnight in Corinth, a community in Denton County, and charged with animal cruelty, according to a report from NBC 5.

The 10-month-old puppy, named Mercy, died Sunday despite efforts to save her from extensive injuries. She had been cut, stabbed, doused with gasoline and set afire.

At one point last week, her caretakers said she had experienced a comfortable night and was eating.

Mercy was found about two weeks ago in a wooded area in Dallas with burns over 60 percent of her body, NBC 5 reported.

No other information was immediately available.

I think when this happens with pit bulls it's because the dog wouldn't fight or fight well. I saw a pit bull at a shelter in South Jersey that had been beaten because it wouldn't fight. Very sweet dog.

Here's hoping that Deshann gets that cellblock interior decorator job he so richly deserves.

Serial killers usually start with animals, and then move up to people when torturing animals gets dull.

I hope they lock this animal up for a long, long time. Many of the nation's worst murderers began by torturing animals, then moved to killing and torturing human beings.

It just upsets me so much..I have a dog that is 16yrs old and he is very ill I can't bring myself to put him to sleep but know I will have to do that soon..And to read something like this made me cry so much..My dog has been sick all of his life and was abused before he came to me..With the help of my vet we have been able to keep him with me for this long..He was a pup when I took him into our home..He is my best friends on this earth and I will miss him but know he will be waiting for me when I get to heaven..

I noticed the same about the name of the puppy..This evil person should have to suffer as much as the puppy..

I spent so much money taking care of my dog but would do it over again for the happiness and joy he has given to me...

Why do I think his penalty will be more severe than if he'd killed a child?

Oh, yeah: the woman they just acquitted in the county next door, who cut her child's arms off...

This story outrages me. If I may offer some perspective to your situation it parallels my own. I put down my dog about two months ago. She had a number of problems and it was time to end it. I got a new dog from an animial shelter who is the gleam in my eye every day. Think of it like this. Your dog has had a good life. But like all things it's time is about over. Rescue a dog who otherwise is in good health but needs a home. You won't be sorry.

As to this "animal" who did this -- the electric chair is appropriate.

Poor puppy. Torturing animals is the lowest of the low.

That said, I'm waiting for certain FReepers to celebrate this as it was a pit bull.

You're going to have a long wait. I'm not a pit bull fan, but what this "human" did to that dog was pure evil.

It's not irony. The animal rescue people named her that "because none was shown to her before."

Our dog had a stroke one night while I was on the graveyard shift a couple of years ago. I left to go to work and he was just fine; playing and prancing. When I came home, he couldn't walk. One eye was bulged out. He had trouble breathing.

I had to take him that morning. I couldn't stay for the docs to put him down. I paid the bill, gave him a long hug and kiss and ran for the door in tears.

My Wife took it better than I did. And he was HER dog from before we met. Of course, she didn't go with me to the clinic.

I miss Skitchie.

(Now we have two psychotic cats that chase air molecules at three in the morning)

It'll be more severe than that one example, but it will be pretty light. I think the max for a crime like this in Texas is something like two years in prison.

I know we're not supposed to change the title of the article. But it was not a, "Man," that did this to the puppy.

I'm like you. All my life, we have taken in stray animals. My mother would see my sister and me coming home with some 4-legged tail wagger, and head us off at the steps, giving us the reminder speech about "We have too many strays as it is..." But my mother was easy to win over..."Just can we please give it some water, mom?"

Why, oh why do people do these sorts of things?

I wonder who turned this punk in to police?

"You're going to have a long wait"

I wish I had that faith in our fellow FReepers. I've seen worse than this advocated on other pit bull threads.

If I do get another dog it will be from a shelter..I just don't think I will ever do that though..I have so many strays that are dropped at my doorstep all of the time..Mostly cat's..I take them in and have them fixed and then find homes for them...I have one that came to me last week that is beautiful he is so sweet,I might think about keeping him myself..He must have been raised with a dog because every time I walk out the door he doesn't pay attention to me he starts cuddling up to my dog..Maybe he was sent to me to keep..I just wish people would get their animals fixed..it only cost around 30.00 at an animal clinic run by the city..

I was thinking he has two of the red flags for those who grow up to be very bad people. I don't know if he was a bedwetter as a child, but if so..he will probably do worse things in the future.

Bedwetting
Firestarting
Cruelty to animals or other children
