Eggzactly. Why do we want to support the son of an asshole who will bring back bad memories to many of the Iranians?
Why not allow the Iranians to figure that one out for themselves?
We've helped create enough problems in that region during the last century, hopefully we've learned our lesson.

It appears that Pahlavi is assuming that US military strikes would demolish much of the civilian infrastructure, but such extensive damage is not likely. Again, there are too many assumptions about our military being passed around and based on outdated knowledge.

Everything is all our fault, right? Do you think we deserved 9-11 too?Well, we helped topple a democratic gubmint in Iran to put in our man.
Let's just say we haven't done ourselves any favors.
In any case, time to nuke the mullahs.

The Shah was not the moron as the media portrayed him.
He was a staunch anti-communist and that got him slandered in the media. The revolution was started by the Soviets, not the students. Khomenie took it over.
While the Shah killed some political enemies numbering under 3000, Khomenie killed 300,000 his first two years. The Shah's political enemies were Soviet backed revolutionaries, not average citizens opposed to strict Islamic rules.

You need to read THE PERSIAN PUZZLE. Mossedegh was a loony, and while popularly elected, he drifted into loonyness and started coddling the Soviets. The Russians controlling the Persian Gulf was unthinkable.
Mossadegh even entertained people in his underwear according to the book. (Ex-Pat Iranians widely love the book)

"In other news, Julio Franco, the great-nephew of the late Spanish dictator, Francisco Franco, has announced his willingness to assume the title of Caudillo, "should the Spanish people decide they once again need a brutal fascist strongman"." Really, I thought he was the oldest ballplayer to hit a home run in the majors?

It would be cool if he can pull it of, however at this point I think he's pretty much irrelevant. Maybe not, I don't know much about him except that I would bet he's got more money than God.

This was posted earlier, but people always miss things first time around, so thanks for posting again.
And I'd like to say, that you've done a very good job answering questions and replying to posts. : ~ )
Pahlavi will not forcibly impose himself on the Iranians. He wants them to freely choose which type of gov't they want, head of state they want and gov't members.
And yes, he needs help, and I hope he's getting it, because it's becoming more and more apparent, that the State Dept doesn't know what the heck they're doing.

"Pahlavi, who lives in exile in the United States, said he has been in contact with elements of the Revolutionary Guard that would be willing to play such a role."
Just trying to sew seeds of distrust in the RG.
