MI Ping
I guess you didn't bother to read what Reza Pahlavi wants -- also, his Father was battling the Islamist extremists way back when.
How gracious of him!
I hope the Iranian people DO revolt and overthrow their Islamofascist government, and establish a Constitutional Republic.
But the time of monarchs is passed, and such a vestigial position is neither needed nor wanted in these modern times, IMHO, even in Iran.
Whatever happens in Iran, methinks this gentleman is deluded if he envisions someday being the King of Persia...
"The Shah was trying to bring Iran into the modern age, and certain elements of Iranian society needed to be beaten into the modern age."
====
Exactly. The enemies of the Shah were the very extremist Islamists we are battling today. If our fine president Carter had supported the Shah and helped him stay in power and defeat the Islamist movement lead by the Ayatollah, the Islamists may very well not have been able to get as strong as they are today. The Ayatollah taking power in Iran gave them a springboard to spread their ideology and terrorism.
Kings suck.

Jimmy Carter and the 40 Ayatollahs
http://www.newsmax.com/archives/articles/2002/10/29/170201.shtml
By Middle East standards the Shah of Iran was a progressive democrat. In the eyes of President Jimmy Carter and certain foreign policy factions in the State Department and various think tanks, the Shah represented the heart of darkness.
In an article in May 2002, NewsMax's Chris Ruddy pointed out:
"Remember Carter's human rights program, where he demanded the Shah of Iran step down and turn over power to the Ayatollah Khomeini? "No matter that Khomeini was a madman. Carter had the U.S. Pentagon tell the Shah's top military commanders about 150 of them to acquiesce to the Ayatollah and not fight him.
"The Shah's military listened to Carter. All of them were murdered in one of the Ayatollah's first acts.
"By allowing the Shah to fall, Carter created one of the most militant anti-American dictatorships ever."
Yeah, it's disgraceful that radical Islam's first victory was handed to them by the United States (thank you, Jimmy Carter).
Only a lunatic would argue that the fall of the Shah was a good thing.
I don't feel like posting this separately, but it's interesting and Iran related:
Eros B (Israeli )spy satellite sends first images
http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?cid=1145961253748&pagename=JPost%2FJPArticle%2FShowFull
The first high-quality images from the Israeli Eros B spy satellite designed to track Iran's nuclear program arrived at a ground station over the weekend, an official said Sunday.
The satellite, launched last week from Russia, is capable of capturing images on the ground as small as 70 centimeters (27.6 inches).
Satellite pictures published on Sunday showed vivid images of a Syrian dam, helicopters in Sudan and a military port in an unidentified country.
But the satellite's main purpose is to track Iran's nuclear program at a time when Teheran is refusing to comply with UN demands to halt uranium enrichment and Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is calling for Israel's destruction.
Well let's see what happens this summer. If they form a government in exile and somehow get the people of Iran to go on a general strike then by all means this would be a time and place that the UN could actually do something effective too. I'm sure the American people would be supportive of Iranian liberty.
"By allowing the Shah to fall, Carter created one of the most militant anti-American dictatorships ever."
You're right concerning the above and everything else too. It is my understanding that most of the educated, wealthy Persians said goodbye to their homeland a long time ago.
"you must first admit. This IS a beautiful blonde. "

I'll be happy to admit it.
I suppose this time of the night it's more fun to discuss beautiful blondes, rather then Jimmy Carter. ;)
If the terrorist's best friend, Jimmy Carter, had intervened to support the Shah, this would have been nipped in the bud.
The refusal of the Carter government to support the Shah's government, and to allow one of America's strongest allies to be replaced by Islamist fanatics ,passively sitting it out while the Ayatollahs took power in Iran is the root cause for the rise of Islamist extremism and the terrorism that goes with it.
Thank you Jimmy Carter, the worst American president.
Thank you Bill Clinton, who continued his policies, and is not far behind.
Iran 'could share nuclear skills'
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/4943782.stm
Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has said his country is ready to share its nuclear technology with other nations.
In his meeting with Mr Bashir, Ayatollah Khamenei said Iranian scientists' nuclear capability was "one example of the numerous scientific movements in the country".
"The Islamic Republic is ready to transfer this experience and the technology and knowledge of its scientists," the leader was quoted as saying.
In return, the Sudanese president praised Iran's enrichment of uranium as a great victory for the Islamic world.

AND "coincidentally":
"I call on the mujahedeen and their supporters in Sudan ... and the Arabian Peninsula to prepare all that is necessary to wage a long-term war against the crusaders in Western Sudan," bin Laden declared.

In answer to why this is being publicised, here's my conspiracy theory.
1) Irrespective of whether there is such a movement, any authoritarian regime is paranoid. Now, any ayatollah pigeonshit who read this will be contacting all the republican guard families to make sure they are still in their fold. Different families who dont get along will be pointing fingers at each other. The ensuing confusion will be fun to watch.
2) All this seems like right out of a Mario Puzo classic, but it sure gets the regime worried.
3) If the movement isn't already underway, it will get some people interested, they'll contact Reza and it might turn out this way.
4) As for why people might welcome one dictator's son to replace the current dictatorship, just read a bit about politics in India with the Gandhi family. Especially about Indira Gandhi and you'll know how families work in Asian politics.
And I will be happy to admit that James Earl Carter was 'The worst President in the history of the United States'.
When any Johnny-Reb gets in my face, I just say "Jimmah".
u said it my friend....
i am always suspicious of 'kings' looking for democracy...
when the revolution begins they assume power 'temporarily' until democracy is setup but their rule tends to last decades...causing an even greater calimity later on...
whats the iranians need is democracy..not swapping one dictatorship for another...
i know this guy might be the exception but i dont think it worth the risk...
"i know this guy might be the exception but i dont think it worth the risk..."

Well, considering that the alternative may be "nuclear Mullahs", I think the change is vastly preferable to the current status quo.
