Immigration madness (Tony Blankley)
Washington Times ^ | 5/3/06 | Tony Blankley

Posted on 05/03/2006 3:12:59 AM PDT by Elkiejg

......It is almost inconceivable that an argument is taken seriously that we don't have the right to secure our borders and determine who shall enter our country. Not only has such lunacy become respectable, but our mainstream media instantly, instinctively embraces such a position. Every radio headline newscast, almost every newspaper and television report willfully refuses to distinguish between illegal and legal immigrants. Each report stamps the mark of evil on the forehead of all who would guard our borders. ......

They talk a lot about the Illegals picking the lettuce and such. Now i'm not from California originally and am too young to remember the movement of Cesar Chavez, but didn't he work to unionize those people? What happened there?

This is not a rhetorical question. Can anyone answer?

The recent slump in sales would prove your point wrong. Home ownership is at its highest levels because of record low interest rates, not because of your illegal buddies.

You know, you're right! I'll instead thank international trade for the low rates. Foreigners send us goods and their capital (by investing in our debt instruments) and this keeps the rates low. Thank you for correcting me.

I do wonder, though, just how much new home prices would be, how many of them would get built, and what this hypothetical new scarcity of homes would do for the affordability of homes if immigrants weren't able to work on the crews that built them. Do you suppose the cost might just go up?

What's your point here?

I'd be more than happy to offer them all one way tickets to SC

Do it! Put your money where your mouth is. Maybe then it'll keep you from spewing out numbers and 'facts' that sound as though they've been arbitrarily taken from the orifice on your backside. Linkage, please!

Illegals take up entry level jobs. . . That was my point.

Actually, that was not your point. Your point was that without the right skills you will turn a luxury car into a "wheelbarrow full of nuts and bolts" and that the kids coming from the tech high schools have these skills.

Now, who is going to hire someone at whatever level to turn a customer's luxury car into a "wheelbarrow full of nuts and bolts"?

If the kids really can do what you claim they can do they will be hired at good pay by dealerships and established shops and they don't have to worry about getting a job.

And if jobs at these places are not available it is not due to illegals. It is because the supply of people with such skills -- which illegals obviously do not have -- is greater than demand.

Yes it was my point, see my post below.

Post #35. "Well, you could take a leisurely stroll over to your closest tech high school and ask the soon to graduate students who is their biggest threat to getting a job in their chosen field. Guess who?"

Not worried Joe! I've maintain my position all along. Most of the people on this board and in this country are just now waking up to the reality of the situation.

Does this mean you're going to find these immigrants, too, and then give them some cash to come to South Carolina? At least be consistent and say that you'll use your own money to send them back across the border. I mean, you did "agree" because it was so well said (or rather, written)

Republicans and Conservatives policymakers in the Federal gov and the State gov, are simply responding to MSM propaganda.

Our reps KNOW that the power of the MSM is greater than our power.

The general public will fall for every negative ad run against the right, they always do.

LMAO!

Your link references professional "economists" positing more illegal immigration as being good for the economy. What your link fails to assess is the disconnect between Wall Street shareholders and corporate profits with personal income growth. While profits for corporations and shareholders rise because the margins between profit and costs widen as wages are increasingly depressed by illegal alien labor, legitimate workers' wages lack an ability to keep up with normal economic growth. That's good, as long as we're ALL corporate entities.

Professional "economists" need to get their heads out of Wall Street's arse for a breath of reality on behalf of the average laborer. For that, one'd need to consult with those who've actually had experience holding meaningful jobs. But "Economists" won't do that because what's good for the legitimate laborer (exclude labor unions from discussion) isn't always in the best interests of the corporate world, and from where do the majority of "economists" make their incomes? Yeah, I can see they'd bite the hand feeding themselves, since they'd not have an otherwise marketable skill. LOL!

"Economists" would be doing themselves a credit if they'd compare total losses attributable to illegal alien labor with the net gains of Wall Street. Across the board, when 11 million illegal aliens take an EEC of just $2000 each, there is no way their contributions equal their costs to the citizen taxpayer when their additional billions in social costs are factored in. What those "Economists" fail to report, whether by deceit or through ignorance, are those additional costs to taxpayers, which would normally be just another cost of doing business, force federal deficits higher, but they don't realize those effects because those additional taxpayer costs are expected to be borne by "future" generations.

In principle, it's the same thing if, on a personal level, one earns a fair wage while paying part of their bills with another's credit card while they attempt to hide the statement. It appears for now, the income is great - but the true cost isn't realized just yet, but we KNOW it's there.

Those trying to pass of illegal alien labor as "good for the economy" are simply shortsighted, greedy, and wrong.

Or their opinions could be "bought".

Post #35. "Well, you could take a leisurely stroll over to your closest tech high school and ask the soon to graduate students who is their biggest threat to getting a job in their chosen field. Guess who?""

And my response was that "the honest answer would likely be their dope-addled minds" which brought a response from that you couldn't be a druggie and handle the complexities in repairing a Beamer, and basically I agree.

So if these kids can fix a Beamer they are not druggies and have nothing to worry about as far as illegals.

Of course, if they don't have that set of skills you implied they had . . .

Anyway, around here, the troublemakers are usually pushed into the vocational-technical program. Now, not every kid in vo-tech is such and many often end up getting a valuable education and doing real well, but they are not the ones who seem concerned about losing their job to an illegal (actually, they would be more likely to be hiring them).

The ones who are concerned about losing out -- at least in the rare times they may be cognizant that they may one day actually need a job -- are the burnout types.

And truthfully, if I had to make a choice between hiring an illegal or one of these burn-out types, I think I'd go with the illegal.

I guess it's the words "On Balance" that are too hard to grasp. Did you mistake them for "inbalanced", perhaps?

"Anyway, around here, the troublemakers are usually pushed into the vocational-technical program."

I'm glad I don't live where you do.

I like the fact that I can deal with fellow classmates on a business level for my construction needs, my plumbing, heating and electrical needs as well as auto repair. Quite a few very successful businessmen in a 50 mile radius of my home town graduated from my tech high school (way back when...) We all (legit business owners) lament the fact that illegals are having a negative impact on our livelihoods.

"So if these kids can fix a Beamer they are not druggies and have nothing to worry about as far as illegals."

Unfortunately they do.. you see too many of the NEWER business owners are illegals themselves.....or if they are not, do not think twice about hiring illegals. This leaves the recent grads without any chance to get the much needed "apprentice" level jobs in their trades.

As I stated to another poster..... don't take my word for it. Stop off at a local trade school and ask around for yourself.

"not every kid in vo-tech is such and many often end up getting a valuable education and doing real well, but they are not the ones who seem concerned about losing their job to an illegal (actually, they would be more likely to be hiring them)."

The last part of your statement is unfortunately true.

We can certainly agree that illegals are a problem and that we have an obligation to maintain our border.

Consider cheap tomatoes

This email is from a retired former teacher friend whose wife is a teacher in the Riverside area, and has been for many, many years. The attached is first hand knowledge...

As you all listen to the news about the student protests over illegal immigration there are some things that you should be aware of. My wife is in charge of the English-as-a-second-language department at large southern California high school, which is designated a Title 1 school, meaning that its students average lower socio-economic and income levels.

Most of the schools you are hearing about, South Gate High, Bell Gardens, Huntington Park, etc. where these students are protesting, are also Title 1 schools.

My wife tells me that 100% of the students in her school and other Title 1 schools are on the free breakfast, free lunch program. When I say free breakfast I'm not talking a glass of milk and roll... but a full breakfast and cereal bar with fruits and juices that would make a Marriott proud. The waste of this food is monumental, with trays and trays of it being dumped in the trash uneaten.

She estimates that well over 50% of these students are obese or at least moderately overweight.

About 75% or more DO have cell phones.

The school also provides day care centers for the unwed teenage pregnant girls (some as young as 13) so they can attend class without the inconvenience of having to arrange for baby-sitters or having family watch their kids.

She was ordered to spend $700,000 on her department or risk losing funding for the upcoming year even though there was little need for anything; her budget was already substantial. She ended up buying new computers for their computer learning center; half of which, one month later, have been carved with graffiti by the appreciative students who obviously feel humbled and grateful to have a free education in America.

She has had to intervene several times for young and substitute teachers whose classes consist of many illegal immigrant students here in the country less then 3 months who raised so much hell with the female teachers, calling them Putas? whores and throwing things that the teachers were in tears.

Free medical, free education, free food, day care etc., etc., etc. Is it any wonder they feel entitled to not only be in this country but to demand rights, privileges and entitlements? To my conservative friends: I hope you're really proud of how George W. Bush has helped to sell-out this country with his pro-illegal policy. I voted for him too, but on this issue he is a disaster.

To my bleeding-heart liberal friends who want to point out how much these illegal immigrants contribute to our society because they LIKE their gardener and housekeeper and they like to pay less for tomatoes: spend some time in the real world of illegal immigration and see the TRUE costs.

Higher insurance, Medical facilities closing, higher medical costs, more crime, lower standards of education in our schools, overcrowding, new diseases etc., etc., etc. For me, I'll pay more for tomatoes.

We need to wake up. The guest worker program will be a disaster because we won't have the guts to enforce it. Does anyone in their right mind really think they will leave and return voluntarily?

There are many hardworking Hispanic/American citizens that contribute to our country and many that I consider my true friends. We should encourage and accept those Hispanics who have done it the right and legal way. It does, however, have everything to do with culture: A third-world culture that does not value education, that accepts children getting pregnant and dropping out of school by 15 and that refuses to assimilate ... and an American culture that has become so weak and politically correct that we don't have the will to do anything about it. If this makes your blood boil, as it did mine, forward this to everyone you know.

Perhaps if you had to compete in industries where you invest in up-to-date equipment and your competitors under-bid you by using "Mexi-matics" you would not be nearly so smug in your position.
You probably will never believe that the ILLEGALS are lowering real wages until such time as one takes your job.
