Even though Goss had a good reputation, I don't think any Republican Congressmen nowadays have the balls to get anything done over the objections of the Democrats. Maybe a conservative military guy will be braver.

You are assuming the rules have anything to do with winning.

Not really. No.

One of the reasons I wasn't too thrilled with Goss.

Appointments like this make me wish I weren't too old to do a few more years.

I've thought about it more than once. Talk to a few of the MI reserve units about it. They salivate when they talk to you :-)

My wife gets out this summer after 30 years - half on active duty. And I had to go screw the pooch and call it quits to follow the glory life of hitech. Ya, right.

There was a new thread tonight...about how Specter STILL isn't happy about the NSA wiretapping...and wants to have hearings on just how much power a POTUS should have...

Perhaps, Bush would GLADLY put Hayden out there first, in his confirmation to deflect a lot of the nastiness..

You know...like he is on point.....LOL

I posted this earlier (a few times...)
My reasoning may be wrong but we will wait and see.

About Michael Hayden (omitted in the article)
http://www.af.mil/bios/bio.asp?bioID=5746

Looks like Hayden is taking over critical intelligence possibly because CIA is TOO CORRUPT!

IOW, the CIA was not being fixed fast enough and if they can't prosecute Mary McCarthy, then just pull the rug and give the key assets to another trusted professional.

Arlen Specter is a double agent of sorts. He would be keeping his mouth shut if Bush told him to. I think Bush and Specter have an understanding.

I hope you are right...because most of what I have seen from Specter is a betrayal of the extra campaigning that Bush did for him in 2006..

You've provided the most optimistic and up-beat accounting of the possible Hayden nomination I've seen. Good heads up. Esp if it seems leakers in Congress will be implicated next, the hearings on Hayden will be all out struggle, nothing less. And given that he's been the front man explaing NSA wiretapping, I'm sure he's ready to go.

The question is, do hearings start before the Senate heads out for the summer, or land in the fall, amidst the election campaign?

This would fit with the guess that Goss is leaving partly because of difficulty getting along with Negroponte -- Hayden has been working with him well, it has been reported.

I don't think it will be that hard to get him through the nomination process. I heard several democrats say good things about him today. I'm sure the hearings will have some hard questions, but I bet most democrats vote to confirm, and pretty quickly.

I also am betting that Goss ends up running for Senate in Florida.

" Now your assuming the left follows the rules. "

They make up rules as they go along ( and expect and demand the Republicans to stick to those rules ) and disregards the rules when it applies to them.

Negroponte is quite a character. If he didn't exist, fiction writers would have to invent him.
If I got crosswise with him, I'd get married just to have a mother-in-law to start my car in the morning ;^)

I wonder if he will go up against Katherine Harris in the primary.

Hayden is a good man, not only because of his professional experience and judgment, but because he is a long-time Steelers fan through thick and thin!

Democrats would jump at the chance to rip Hayden alive during nationally-televised hearings in a way that would make the Alito hearings look like a prayer breakfast.

When the rats take the bait, and they will, it's going to emphasize their weakness on security and the skirt wearing pansies that they are.

"You underestimate the viciousness of liberal scum. Firing them won't stop them from running to the nearest media outlet telling the media and the world all they know."

No, but prosecuting them for TREASON might slow them down. No more slaps on the wrist like Sandy Burglar. Time for this administration to start to familiarize themselves with the our Constitution and the rule of law. ENFORCE the law and most of this crap gets back under control.

If they don't grow a spine, brain and testicles between now and Nov...lets throw the rhinos and the fence sitters in the Republican party out on their collective a$$es!
