Tancredo Rips Government’s Spying of Minutemen

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressmen Tom Tancredo (R-CO) decried a recently-disclosed U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) practice of tipping off the Mexican military to the location of Minutemen volunteers. According to a story in this morning’s Inland Daily Bulletin, CBP notifies the Mexican government of when and where the Minutemen are planning to monitor the border and if violence is used by the Minutemen against illegal aliens. There has not been one verified instance of Minutemen volunteers using violence against illegal aliens.

“The Mexican military doesn’t exactly have a ‘good government’ reputation. The Border Patrol has documented more than two hundred incursions into the U.S by the Mexican military, and Texas sheriffs even apprehended Mexican government vehicles that were used to ferry drug runners across the border. By tipping off Mexico’s military to the Minutemen’s location, the U.S. government is asking for trouble,” said Tancredo.

“Heavily-armed military officials stationed only yards from civilians are at least intimidating. I can only surmise that the Border Patrol bureaucrats’ spying is meant to have a chilling effect on the Minutemen’s recruitment of more volunteers,” said Tancredo.

“The Minutemen haven’t been accused of breaking the law. Quite the contrary—they have gone out of their way to aid law enforcement and ensure the safety of our border. The U.S. government has no grounds upon which to stifle the Minutemen’s constitutional right to organize,” Tancredo concluded. “I want to know the legal basis for CBP informing a foreign government of the activities of private citizens who are obeying the law.”

Thanks. I fought my way through most of it before I gave up. It seemed to me to be the Mexican government complaining to the US government about the Minute Men and accusing them of abusing Mexican nationals. The US was just responding that they would assure that Mexican nationals would not be mistreated.

That is what I got out of it but if I am wrong I would like to know.

But, but, according to tancredo et al., it's the end of the Republic.

Please, please, please, do not compare Bush to Reagan. You only make Bush look even worse than he already does by even attempting to compare the two.

Reagan raised taxes twice, granted an amnesty to four million illegals, and turned tail and ran when 240 Marines were killed in Lebanon. He also got nothing passed in the area of preventing abortions.

Bush is way ahead of him in at least four critical areas.

Upon what do you [Jim Robinson] base this ill-informed opinion?

You take the cake for suicidal dumb buggers.

Kind of makes me wonder if all of the kooks talking about Bush being a tri-lat and a NWO guy aren't onto something.

Well, there definitely is an ongoing effort to monitor the Minutemen, and authorities in the US are collaborating with Mexico, and reporting information to them. But, I'm still not certain, from this rough translation, whether that reaches to high levels of government or not. Given the realities, I suspect it may.

I'd be very, very interested in the first and second reports on "vigilante activities," as there appear to be numerous, tacit assumptions in this third report.

Thanks for the rough translation, too, by the way. I'd rather see for myself, on something so potentially radioactive.

Lou Dobbs is a self proclaimed LIFE long Republican, contrary to the smear tactics that say he is otherwise.

Dobbs is a populist, like Buchanan.

In fact, I think Dobbs is EXACTLY like Buchanan.

Yes, I think this story is distracting everyone from the real point: why are all levels of govt agencies on both sides being so "delicate" about the true problem of aliens sneaking in to the U.S. across our border. Various govt agencies can provide intel to one another all day long, but the fact is that the border is leaking... BADLY... in defiance of our LAWS.

The Minutemen are simply providing the service of bringing attention to that FACT.

GOD BLESS OUR MINUTEMEN AND MINUTECHICKS!!

"According to the claims made on the site, San Diego BP sector chief Darryl Griffen has pledged cooperation in reporting Minuteman activites, specifically in Campo, California."

OK, so one sector chief with Customs and Border Patrol is on record as collaborating with Mexico, in an attempt at discrediting a group of US citizens, who are attempting to halt the flow of Mexican nationals flowing into the country illegally.

It's unlikely that Chief Griffen is acting against the wishes of his superiors. So, the question is, how far up the chain of command does this go? CBP is part of Homeland Security. CBP has their hands in port security as well.
