The Arizona Republican is scheduled to address Columbia University's "Class Day" next Tuesday, and will speak at the commencement ceremonies of the New School three days later.
Known for his independence and maverick streak, McCain has been burnishing his conservative credentials in recent months as he readies a likely 2008 presidential bid. He'll deliver the commencement address at the Rev. Jerry Falwell's Liberty University on Saturday - an opportunity he described yesterday as "an honor."
At the New School, a left-leaning university of some 8,000 students now headed by former Nebraska Sen. Bob Kerrey, organizers announced yesterday they had collected more than 1,000 signatures on a petition asking Kerrey to disinvite McCain.....
"....as a commencement speaker where there is no give and take, we feel the speaker should represent the views of the university."

It ain't gonna help.
By that standard Al Franken should have gotten hundreds of commencment offers.
Whooee! That photo of him that runs with the article is terrifying.
"New School"?
When did the lefties become such intolerant fascists?
Wait, don't answer, I guess they've really always been that way.
They're like the 3 monkeys: Don't want to see, don't want to hear and don't want anyone else to say anything they don't want to hear.
Their view..
Hmmm.
If McClown ticks off the letists, he won't get ANY votes.
McCain's all busy PTT ..."polishing the t*rd"
I don't get it. A feller who tried to keep the NRA from any political advertising during the last 90 days of a campaign and regulate free political speech on the internet - you'd figure the lefty goose-steppers would flock to his side. Poor guy must feel he's radioactive. John - it ain't yer deodorant.
If they give him 5 minutes he will say something they can cheer. He can't help it.
juan mckennedy ( formerly media Az. )will get his ash kicked in the primaries. It will be a beautiful thing. Maybe it will even put little billie crystal and his weakly standard out of business.
McCain is very conservative (for a Frenchman)...
These people are demonstrating their ignorance. McCain is to Republican/conservative as KIA is to BMW.
Maybe they could get Kerrey to call him an "@$$hole."
LOL.....great idea.....we're working on it.
I thought it WAS out of business.....and that little billy had a new job.....
Don't laugh.....now even little billy can be gainfully employed.

Wouldn't want any real diversity at the New School now would we. We might learn siomething, so tell us something we already believe.
