betrayed your purpose in starting the thread with this: ....but we ALL want to end this invasion, and help our brothers and sisters in the Southwest to have their safe and normal lives return, and prevent the invasion from moving further.I'm not sure what you mean. Is it the word "invasion" that bothers you? Other than that, do you disagree with the proposition?

We need to get these jobs up to a realistic wage for AMERICANS prior to allowing non-Americans to take them! Who do you think is going to buy a 1600 square foot ranch in Long Beach for 1.8 million in 10 years? Think about this, what do you think a house will cost if labor doubles or triples the cost?

Me too. Isn't it silly to pump out the water from your basement without first shutting off the broken pipe?

As long as both the employers and the employees benefit from this situation it will continue to happen. The migrants benefit as they are making 10x as much as they would in mexico and employers benefit from paying 1/3 the pay they have to pay American workers.
Either penalties on the employer side or increased wages and benefits on the Mexican side of the border are required to alter this equation. Enforcement will certainly have an effect in the short term, but if demand for this type work rises as a result of the enforcement you will most likely be right back in the same position we are in now (similar in a sense to drug enforcement).
I enjoy people picking my ideas apart. So have at it. Doesn't this make sense from a purely economic standpoint?

"Tell us what we can do. Lets band together on this important issue to do whatever we can do to put pressure on Congress, the White House, state and local governments
polite, respectful pressure
.as well as encouraging them when they do make good decisions, and see what happens."
Define what you mean by "good decisions". Does a "good decision" that our elected officials decide to enforce our immigration laws? Secure our borders? Deport those who broke our laws? Prohibit illegal aliens from taking money out of our social programs? Punish illegal aliens for tax evasion?
How about some "polite, respectful pressure" on the elected slack a** politicians who fail to uphold their oath of office to "support our constitution and the laws made pursuant thereto."
ohioWfan, your premise is facile. Go back to the drawing board, grasshopper.

NY police are forbidden ask immigration status.
NYC is declared a safe zone for illegals.
Denver is declared a safe zone for illegals.
My guess is that there are dozens of cities with the same pathetic mindset.
The problem is monumental and far more complex that we would like to believe.
It is mostly small construction companies in my state who are hiring illegals. They're painting, landscaping, etc.
In states with liberal welfare benefits it is impossible to get people to do manual labor.

I've seen various versions of the 'Anchor Baby' interpretation of the 14th Amendment.
If it has to be a ruling from the SCOTUS then make them call an emergency meeting and rule on it ASAP.
Until a wall is built and finished, utilize the NG.
Cut off all benefits immediately except life saving emergency medical treatment.
Make all apply for legal entry into the U.S. from their own country and only after full background and medical checks have been completed.
Suspend all financial aid to Mexico until the borders and the illegal invasion is under U.S. control.
If any illegals are found here after a cutoff date deport them immediately and if necessary use the closed bases to imprison any employers and a $5,000 fine for each illegal they employ. No release date set until payment made in full.
Tell Vicente Fox to mind his own business and take care of his own messed up country.

Just about every country issues a birth certificate for a baby born there. I don't see how we can avoid issuing a birth certificate.

So, is it possible to put pressure on city governments and have it be effective?
I included 'state and local' governments, because the problem is much deeper than just a federal one.

"Is that enough?"
The President can not announce the starting of a fence on Monday..the proposed building of a fence is still just a bill.
An announcement from President Bush that troops are needed at the boarder due to the Bill coming up and the possibility of a stampede of aliens trying to get in at the last minute is a very good thing.
It will calm people's fears. That's what a good President does.

Ahhh so you don't have a problem with people breaking Federal law to put a few lousy bucks in their pockets. I see you also feel it's alright, if they can't get the law changed to their liking, to just go right ahead and break it.
Thanks for clearing that up Dane.
I'm on the side of Law and Order and you're on the side of Anything To Make A Buck.

Suspend all financial aid to Mexico until the borders and the illegal invasion is under U.S. control. That alone would probably work but be prepared to lose their oil. Everything south of the border is reverting to communism and Mexico would fall with it.

Good post! Ending the anchor baby incentive would certainly be a deterrent. There's certainly nothing in your post I wouldn't agree with 100%!
