The First Entirely Positive,“How do we Help Solve the Illegal Immigration Problem?" Thread
5.12.06 | ohioWfan

Posted on 05/12/2006 5:47:27 PM PDT by ohioWfan

I’m going to try something entirely new to Free Republic………..start a thread restricted to practical, positive. pro-active things that this huge forum filled with good people who love this country can actually DO about helping to solve the illegal immigration problem, and how we can ‘encourage’ our leaders at all levels to get their acts together.

This is not a thread for venting or attacking (Heaven knows, that‘s been done plenty around here!). Let’s keep it entirely positive……..no attacks on the President and ‘Bushbots’ or the GOP………or on each other, from EITHER side. No threats to ’kick the GOP bums out’ …….we all know that the risk of having Dems in power is too great for that irresponsible threat. NO name-calling from EITHER side……..’Jorge‘ and ‘El Presidente‘ both qualify as disrespectful name-calling. (Perhaps we can all just ignore anyone who tries to turn this into a hostile thread, and punch the abuse button, but NOT engage in battle with him/her). Disagree, but be respectful about it.

What we really need are practical things we can do……with links to key Senate and Congressional offices, the White House, as well as STATE and LOCAL government offices, examples of THOUGHTFUL and POSITIVE letters to our leaders that will actually be read, and responded to. Phone numbers, and ideas for THOUGHTFUL and POSITIVE phone calls to leaders. What we also need are specific PRAYER requests for you, so that those of us who believe that our God is the God of the impossible can be on our knees in prayer for the details of this immense problem. We need fervent prayer for the President and Congress, as well as our State and Local authorities. And we need Freeper creativity!

We are LEGION, and together, I believe we can make a difference in moving this engine down the track more rapidly.

There are people who are very angry with the President and the Republicans in Congress, and people who still respect and admire the President greatly, and are angry with the Republicans in Congress……..and even some who are NOT angry with the Republicans in Congress (OK……..maybe not..... :)………..but we ALL want to end this invasion, and help our brothers and sisters in the Southwest to have their safe and normal lives return, and prevent the invasion from moving further.

Those of us outside the region may not understand what things are like, but we want to, so if those of you in the affected states could give us more details about how bad this is, without belittling us because we don’t live there, it would be much appreciated. We know it‘s bad, and we care about it, even though we cannot fully appreciate it from where we sit.

There is a great work force of pro-Bush people out in freeper lurker land who have been shoved out of the discussion by bashers. There are lots of us who want to know what’s going on, but wouldn’t go on a standard immigration thread if our lives depended on it, because the disdain for us there is palpable. We may agree with the idea of a guest worker program, or we may not, but we don‘t want to be labeled just because our ideas are different.

So…… LET US HELP YOU, PLEASE! We are activists, and we are willing to work.

Tell us what we can do. Let’s band together on this important issue to do whatever we can do to put pressure on Congress, the White House, state and local governments………polite, respectful pressure……….as well as encouraging them when they do make good decisions, and see what happens.

What do you think? Can we be pro-active and actually get something done? Can we discuss this without rancor, but with the common goal in mind to rescue our beloved country from invasion?

If you think so, please ping those who will, without personal attacks, tell us their stories, and let us get involved in getting something done. This thread is not to place blame, but to come up with solutions.

This is America………..and we are Freepers! Let’s ROLL!

>>How about we actually hold congress to their promise in 86 that THAT amnesty be the last and that they - and the president - honor their own promise and beign to enforce the law? No 'lets be realistic' or 'but its impossible' arguments.

if the voters speak with one voice surely the president and congress would HAVE to listen.<<

Part of the problem is getting them to use words correctly. Have you heard John McCain discuss this? He says things like "Amnesty is forgiveness - this isn't forgiveness, its a path to citizenship."

Hi Ohio, I think what ever the Prez states with his message Monday evening, we need to back him even if not in total agreement.

First a fence, but since that will take time the announcement today that the President may put military
at the border is an excellent start.

My preference is deporting all illegals but living in a city with tens of thousands of Mexicans, it would not be as simple as one wished.
Probably starting with the hardcore, and shutting down the various services as medical, etc. costing us tens of millions of dollars a yr.

Go after businesses, etc. that hire the illegals in
major raids to discourage most illegals.

Whether we like it or not some of these illegals will put in a program which should include -
1. Learn English
2. become a part of the American society not the beligerent attitude most have with the gringo go back to Europe attitude.
3. They must work and it be legal.
4. They must learn about our society and government to
become an American citizen
5. Their childred must stay in school as they have a HIGH
drop out rate and the parents must be involved.
Just a few items that illegals who are to be part of the

You said:

. . a thread restricted to practical, positive. pro-active things that this huge forum filled with good people who love this country can actually DO . .

then betrayed your purpose in starting the thread with this:

....but we ALL want to end this invasion, and help our brothers and sisters in the Southwest to have their safe and normal lives return, and prevent the invasion from moving further.

Maybe you'd like to have a civil discussion (we all would) rather than a flame war for a change. If so, I suggest you begin the next thread on a more civil note, and on a higher level than that sunk to by some popular columnists and commentators.

In formulating public policy, it is always best to start by establishing broad goals, then discussing methods, winnowing out the impossible and unfeasible until you've narrowed the choices to a few which meet the objectives while at the same time having the least negative impact on the population in terms of tax burden, regulations, etc.

This methodology is almost totally absent in the ongoing debate, such as it is, on talk radio and forums such as Free Republic. It has been all about methods, assuming -- incorrectly, in my opinion -- that the goal has already been settled on. It's called getting your cart before the horse, and nothing good can come of it.

For that reason, I intend this to be my only contribution to your noble venture, ohioWfan.

Good luck.

I'm hoping the speech Monday is a sign that the President hears us and wants to move our direction.

He's not going to announce a fence ... so I'm sure it won't please everyone.

But what if he announces some sort of troops-on-the-border plan that is more than symbolic ... and emphasizes securing the border before implementing any guest worker plan.

Is that enough?

What part of that don't you get?

I get the part of people who grow food and build buildings aren't inherently evil as you seem to think and I beleive there should be less govt. regulations so that they can do such things as grow more food and build more houses.

Let's add another item to your list.

Currently the Social Security Adm. has some 9 million numbers that don't match up to names... (as yet can't fidn the real number, wonder why?) so they have the names of ALL of these employers and the alias of the SSN users. Let all of those Homeland Security boys and girls start paying visits ASAP

Mexico is clearly the heart of the problem.

Can we do anything about it?

The following may be a bit extreme, but reality says we have a situation that calls for extreme action. I don't know the feasability of any of these since many U.S. companies sent their factories out of the country to take advantage of cheap labor.

1. Freeze all immigration from countries than encourage illegal invasion.

2. End foreign aid to Mexico and send them the bill for the costs of education, housing, healthcare of their citizens. If they refuse to pay, freeze any assests their government has in this country, or push the border further south.

3. End all student/tourist visas from said countries.

4. Close all trade with said countries. Allow none of their trucks across the border, none of their ships into American ports. Close the border to tourists going south (without US dollars, their economy collapses).

5. Expell all diplomats from said country and have them removed from U.N. representation. (I know, who cares about the U.N.)

If the above fails, then there's the military option. ANNEX MEXICO (since most of their population is here already) or topple their government and install a representative democracy not run by the Drug cartel.

Ya' hear that, VINCENTE FOX?

Yeah those "evil" people who take the financial risks to put food on America's table or shelter over American's heads, they are just dispicable.

Dane, as usual you are the only one calling anyone "evil."
I thought this was supposed to be a "civil" thread?

"Someone has got to stop being an apologist for 'business owners' who commit felonies on a daily basis."

The House bill addresses this by requiring business's to phone all applicants into a national data base. This insures that the applicant is legit and makes them more responsible. I am sure a lot of the problem we are having with big business getting "a break" in the discussion on FR has been from paid lobbyists.

All this screaming about "Amnesty" is a diversion IMHO. The house bill says nothing about a amnesty or a guest worker program.

' The First Entirely Positive,“How do we Help Solve the Illegal Immigration Problem?" '

Speaking only for myself, I will watch and listen to Monday night's speech.
Then I will try to voice my opinion directly to The White House by phone or e-mail,
no matter that it will be just part of a tsunami of responses.
http://www.whitehouse.gov/contact/
I'll also e-mail my Senators and Rep.

I'm one of the border trolls that will vote Republican in November. But if I
even feel that Dubya is still headed down the amnesty trail, I'll not
hesitate to say "You are risking ruin at the polls by severly underestimating
how many of your supporters will simply not turn out to cast a ballot in Nov.
By unfailingly supporting illegal aliens, you have alienated many supporters."

Call that being a border troll, if you wish.
I'd call it being loyal and thus not not staying silent as the ship of
state is sailed into harms way.

Another item, if the Mexican goverment refuses to change their ways, wipe out all their border towns and create a 10-mile wide "no mans land" on their side of the border.

No then all of those willing citizens will line up to work for the prevailing wage. Isn't that what all of the close the border folks keep saying? We will see millions of white folks on roofs, busing tables, mowing lawns cleaning toilets. All of those jobs both blacks and whites are just itching to get their hands on.

Precisely. That's what I was talking about with the 4.7% unemployment rate versus the ZERO% unemployment rate. We need to get these jobs up to a realistic wage for AMERICANS prior to allowing non-Americans to take them! Who do you think is going to buy a 1600 square foot ranch in Long Beach for 1.8 million in 10 years?

Let's start with Federal employment law. There is no oversight of employers, that I'm aware of. I looked at a recent Circular E, and was amazed at the rules built around protecting illegals.

That is an EXCELLENT post, kitty.

A PR campaign to encourage the LEGAL immigrants, and tell them how much THEY are wanted.

Tony, are you lurking?? PR!!

The difference between this invasion and the normal immigrants (ALL THE REST OF US).....is that immigrants want to be AMERICANS. These usurpers want to take America from us.
