I'm hoping the speech Monday is a sign that the President hears us and wants to move our direction.

He's not going to announce a fence ... so I'm sure it won't please everyone.

But what if he announces some sort of troops-on-the-border plan that is more than symbolic ... and emphasizes securing the border before implementing any guest worker plan.

Is that enough?

The President can not announce the starting of a fence on Monday..the proposed building of a fence is still just a bill.

An announcement from President Bush that troops are needed at the boarder due to the Bill coming up and the possibility of a stampede of aliens trying to get in at the last minute is a very good thing.

It will calm people's fears. That's what a good President does.

I am afraid of the cost that will be exacted in the form of some bugus compromise to get real enforcement of the borders from the upcoming speech, but I think we need to deal with Mwexico directly to force them to befcome a partner in this endeavor.

I would start bey placing restrictions on American Businesses relocating to Mexico, and limiting the transfer and payments for trade based on the Mexican government's performance in stoppiong the flow of illegals AND DRUGS from their side of the border. I would also make them honor the treaties iwsth the US in which they promise to apply stronger environmental standards and labor standards in return for trade.
