The First Entirely Positive,“How do we Help Solve the Illegal Immigration Problem?" Thread
5.12.06 | ohioWfan

Posted on 05/12/2006 5:47:27 PM PDT by ohioWfan

I’m going to try something entirely new to Free Republic………..start a thread restricted to practical, positive. pro-active things that this huge forum filled with good people who love this country can actually DO about helping to solve the illegal immigration problem, and how we can ‘encourage’ our leaders at all levels to get their acts together.

This is not a thread for venting or attacking (Heaven knows, that‘s been done plenty around here!). Let’s keep it entirely positive……..no attacks on the President and ‘Bushbots’ or the GOP………or on each other, from EITHER side. No threats to ’kick the GOP bums out’ …….we all know that the risk of having Dems in power is too great for that irresponsible threat. NO name-calling from EITHER side……..’Jorge‘ and ‘El Presidente‘ both qualify as disrespectful name-calling. (Perhaps we can all just ignore anyone who tries to turn this into a hostile thread, and punch the abuse button, but NOT engage in battle with him/her). Disagree, but be respectful about it.

What we really need are practical things we can do……with links to key Senate and Congressional offices, the White House, as well as STATE and LOCAL government offices, examples of THOUGHTFUL and POSITIVE letters to our leaders that will actually be read, and responded to. Phone numbers, and ideas for THOUGHTFUL and POSITIVE phone calls to leaders. What we also need are specific PRAYER requests for you, so that those of us who believe that our God is the God of the impossible can be on our knees in prayer for the details of this immense problem. We need fervent prayer for the President and Congress, as well as our State and Local authorities. And we need Freeper creativity!

We are LEGION, and together, I believe we can make a difference in moving this engine down the track more rapidly.

There are people who are very angry with the President and the Republicans in Congress, and people who still respect and admire the President greatly, and are angry with the Republicans in Congress……..and even some who are NOT angry with the Republicans in Congress (OK……..maybe not..... :)………..but we ALL want to end this invasion, and help our brothers and sisters in the Southwest to have their safe and normal lives return, and prevent the invasion from moving further.

Those of us outside the region may not understand what things are like, but we want to, so if those of you in the affected states could give us more details about how bad this is, without belittling us because we don’t live there, it would be much appreciated. We know it‘s bad, and we care about it, even though we cannot fully appreciate it from where we sit.

There is a great work force of pro-Bush people out in freeper lurker land who have been shoved out of the discussion by bashers. There are lots of us who want to know what’s going on, but wouldn’t go on a standard immigration thread if our lives depended on it, because the disdain for us there is palpable. We may agree with the idea of a guest worker program, or we may not, but we don‘t want to be labeled just because our ideas are different.

So…… LET US HELP YOU, PLEASE! We are activists, and we are willing to work.

Tell us what we can do. Let’s band together on this important issue to do whatever we can do to put pressure on Congress, the White House, state and local governments………polite, respectful pressure……….as well as encouraging them when they do make good decisions, and see what happens.

What do you think? Can we be pro-active and actually get something done? Can we discuss this without rancor, but with the common goal in mind to rescue our beloved country from invasion?

If you think so, please ping those who will, without personal attacks, tell us their stories, and let us get involved in getting something done. This thread is not to place blame, but to come up with solutions.

This is America………..and we are Freepers! Let’s ROLL!

"Build a "smart" wall, no."

Why not? What does a "smart" wall mean?

I enjoy reading your posts. You speak with a knowledgeable and common sense approach. If only others would see it that way.

Tens of thousands of illegals in San Diego are getting free medical care.
The rest of us have to have insurance or pay up front. [etc.]

You mean by the "rest of us" those who wouldn't qualify for such a program, "illegal alien" or no.

The problem there is not with immigration, it's with whatever form of benighted, hyper-paternalistic socialism you got goin' there in San Diego that gives out such benefits. Cut it off, solve that problem.

BTW, if San Diego is giving out such bennies, well, then, my thoughts run toward the infamously re-written teleprompter line for Ron Burgundy. It ain't "Stay classy, San Diego."

If they can't produce any of the above documents, then throw a call into the BP and have them rounded up as soon as they're healthy enough to transport.

Lurker, I said it before, the illegals are being prepped to use emergency services ONLY for non emergency situations.....right now. They can't be refused medical treatment once the wheels are set in motion. They do not pay for these services. If I go to the hospital by ambulence, I have to pay for the ride. I also pay for their ride.

Asking for documentation before treatment? Not in our lifetime, I think.

It's all about the jobs, and to a lesser extent the benefits.

We put 18 year olds in jail for 5 years for selling ONE joint. Employers need to do hard time. The jobs will dry up, the illegals will go back home. 1 in 1000 employers facing a slap on the wrist fine doesn't cut it. You know that hiring an illegal will get you 5-10 in the pokey, it becomes less attractive. You suck it up, and actually pay $8 an hour for an American. End of problem.

Good evening.
"Farmers and contractors are not evil."

Nor are most of the illegals. There are just so many that the system can't handle it. Restrict immigration by protecting the borders. I'm for a good Israeli style wall with points of entry in convenient locations.

"Yep no amnesty by means of a guest worker program and if they wish to apply for citizenship, they must apply from their home country."

You are dead on right.

This may be a first. I'm not sure I've ever been civil to you, Dane, much less agree with you.

Our message needs to be: Close the borders first, then we can talk about the other stuff.

That is far easier said than done. Troops are not the answe because they cannot be stationed forever on the border. They could have a short term effect but nothing lasting. I guess a honking big wall would help but I have a real problem living in a walled in country. The only thing I can think to do is strip away all non-work related incentives to come here. Welfare, anchor babies etc.

"I don't believe anyone called you a troll, VOA."

True. I was not clear; I only said that in the spirit of letting folks know
that it would be fine it they felt an "irresistable impulse" to say it.

This is a BIG issue. While I don't naturally go for hurling of invectives...
I prefer that to bullets.
If this forum (and our Congress) has some testy exchanges lately, it's just following
in the fine tradition of The Parliament of the UK. (one of my favorites for
Sunday evening viewing on C-Span)

But yes, without illegal labor rates you will be surprised at the at least temporary inflation rates. It will have a ripple effect so you had best be prepared.

Why, if it weren't for illegal labor house prices might go as high as $800k for a 3 bedroom, 1750 sq ft home!:)

Since prices are generally set at what the market will bare, I suspect there will be little or no noticeable difference should all illegals be forced back to whence they came.

OK..........my husband is in hospital administration, and as you know, you have to give emergency care, but I will find out what the LAW is regarding other care. I'm not sure if it's flexible.........they may have to give care regardless of how critical it is (husband isn't home now).

I wonder if the hospitals could join together and fight? I mean, if a person has the sniffles, they come to the ER (not just illegals), and the hospitals (and US) have to swallow the costs.

I'm going to check into this.

Support the election of Brian Bilbray here in San Diego's 50th district (replacing Randy Duke Cunningham) ~

Bilbray faces a daunting challenge against the worst lying attacks ever.
He's branded himself into immigration reform, the Dems hate him.
He's a pit bull on this issue.

He's one of the few who can actually DO something in Congress.

If employers faced serious legal consequences for hiring illegals

You will need a much better ID system, and libertarians (sort of like you a bit no?), don't like ID systems. I favor a strong national very hard to fake ID system myself. But then I am not a libertarian.

"6. Stop paying Americans more in welfare payments than they can make taking on a minimum wage job. "

That is an absolutely outstanding idea, and would go a long way to fixing more problems than just illegal immigration.

Its hard to be a Bush supporter and post these days.

I totally understand your point and what you mean about the nasty trolls here...BUT...

There are a lot of people going thru a lot tougher things in defense of our freedoms than getting an occasional flame on an anonymous internet site.

Post your support for President Bush. You have LOTS of supporters here and we will come to your rescue if you are ambushed.

Post your disagreemnets with the President with positive suggestions on how to resolve the issue.

Now that is what FR is supposed to be all about. Conservatives working together for the cause.
