The First Entirely Positive,“How do we Help Solve the Illegal Immigration Problem?" Thread
5.12.06 | ohioWfan

Posted on 05/12/2006 5:47:27 PM PDT by ohioWfan

I’m going to try something entirely new to Free Republic………..start a thread restricted to practical, positive. pro-active things that this huge forum filled with good people who love this country can actually DO about helping to solve the illegal immigration problem, and how we can ‘encourage’ our leaders at all levels to get their acts together.

This is not a thread for venting or attacking (Heaven knows, that‘s been done plenty around here!). Let’s keep it entirely positive……..no attacks on the President and ‘Bushbots’ or the GOP………or on each other, from EITHER side. No threats to ’kick the GOP bums out’ …….we all know that the risk of having Dems in power is too great for that irresponsible threat. NO name-calling from EITHER side……..’Jorge‘ and ‘El Presidente‘ both qualify as disrespectful name-calling. (Perhaps we can all just ignore anyone who tries to turn this into a hostile thread, and punch the abuse button, but NOT engage in battle with him/her). Disagree, but be respectful about it.

What we really need are practical things we can do……with links to key Senate and Congressional offices, the White House, as well as STATE and LOCAL government offices, examples of THOUGHTFUL and POSITIVE letters to our leaders that will actually be read, and responded to. Phone numbers, and ideas for THOUGHTFUL and POSITIVE phone calls to leaders. What we also need are specific PRAYER requests for you, so that those of us who believe that our God is the God of the impossible can be on our knees in prayer for the details of this immense problem. We need fervent prayer for the President and Congress, as well as our State and Local authorities. And we need Freeper creativity!

We are LEGION, and together, I believe we can make a difference in moving this engine down the track more rapidly.

There are people who are very angry with the President and the Republicans in Congress, and people who still respect and admire the President greatly, and are angry with the Republicans in Congress……..and even some who are NOT angry with the Republicans in Congress (OK……..maybe not..... :)………..but we ALL want to end this invasion, and help our brothers and sisters in the Southwest to have their safe and normal lives return, and prevent the invasion from moving further.

Those of us outside the region may not understand what things are like, but we want to, so if those of you in the affected states could give us more details about how bad this is, without belittling us because we don’t live there, it would be much appreciated. We know it‘s bad, and we care about it, even though we cannot fully appreciate it from where we sit.

There is a great work force of pro-Bush people out in freeper lurker land who have been shoved out of the discussion by bashers. There are lots of us who want to know what’s going on, but wouldn’t go on a standard immigration thread if our lives depended on it, because the disdain for us there is palpable. We may agree with the idea of a guest worker program, or we may not, but we don‘t want to be labeled just because our ideas are different.

So…… LET US HELP YOU, PLEASE! We are activists, and we are willing to work.

Tell us what we can do. Let’s band together on this important issue to do whatever we can do to put pressure on Congress, the White House, state and local governments………polite, respectful pressure……….as well as encouraging them when they do make good decisions, and see what happens.

What do you think? Can we be pro-active and actually get something done? Can we discuss this without rancor, but with the common goal in mind to rescue our beloved country from invasion?

If you think so, please ping those who will, without personal attacks, tell us their stories, and let us get involved in getting something done. This thread is not to place blame, but to come up with solutions.

This is America………..and we are Freepers! Let’s ROLL!

So with the state of California, and LA and San Diego hospitals out of control, it is California law that needs to be changed?

Well when you talk about both medical and educational mandates then you start getting into the realm of the federal via the 14th amendment. The federal courts have been very active in those areas but when it comes to traditional welfare benefits then yes the states are the main culprits there. If I am wrong then Torie can and probably will correct me. LOL

We can't do anything to fix Mexico, unless we are willing to invade, take control and set up a new government. I am not being silly, the problem with Mexico is there are only two classes in Mexico; the wealthy elite and the very poor. Mexico does not have a middle class as we know it. The only way to move out of the underclass in Mexico is through illegal activities. The elite control Mexico and all the money in Mexico. The elite like things just as they are and do not want them to change.

The US has tried many ways to help Mexico over the years, everything has failed. The citizens of Mexico need to have a good old fashioned revolution. In the history of Mexico there have been many revolutions but they only changed leaders, and did not change their system so previous revolutions have not worked.

Money is not the answer, there is a lot of money in Mexico, and any we sent would only go into the pockets of those who have it all now. Mexico has plenty of natural resources too, but the elite will not use them to the full potential out of fear that the underclass might advance if they did.
Many have tried to invest and help Mexico- it hasn't worked.

Mexico now has a bigger problem than before, they have allowed drug lords and gangs to operate freely, because of corruption- now the drug lords and gangs have tremendous power. Mexico is the new Colombia, which is why the violence is spilling over into the US.

do you think we should also allow them to keep their citizenship to Mexico?

NO! If you are going to be a citizen of this country, you should renounce all allegiance to any other country. The same with becoming a citizen of another country, you should give up your US citizenship. You are either an American or you are not.

Very astute, Joe. The letters to editors notion works well because the newspapers are in the home districts of the reps we will fire via votes if they choose to ignore what we want of them.

Closing the flow first, then addressing the particular issues of guest workers and naturalization PROCESS, not instant amnesty (should be a number and picture ID and limit of four years on guest worker status with no renewability, and a 'path to citizenship' with picture ID and number and go to the back of the line ... only one chance to switch from guest worker to path to citizenship).

Sure it does for as long as the political will of BOTH the politicians and citizens hold strong. I don't see a lot of that in either category these days. Just look at support for the war in Iraq.

I see lots of good ideas posted on this thread, but some need to understand that this isn't a dictatorship and the President can't wave a wand and get those things done.

Many of the ideas would be fine, if you could also deport all the civil rights attorneys and liberal judges!

Many of the problems come from the border states themselves, and those in charge of their Government systems.
The President can't just seize control of the states and pitch the liberals out, neither can the Republicans in Congress.

The RATS are playing both sides of this issue, they will block any meaningful reforms on the border, (even funding the protests) And sit back and blame Republicans for the problems. People need to wise up to that fact.

That is what I think should be done, just treat and call in immigration.... but there is another issue higher up the chain-- when these people apply for Medicaid I've been wondering -- does the Social Worker not check if the person is a legal immigrant? So many cannot speak English (the doctor I work for has to employ people who can translate for him) that I would think it's a red flag to the Social Workers... and they have to provide an address when they apply as well...

Mexico is always just on the verge of the cliff and if it falls then we are in a world of hurt. This is a real problem bigger than illegal immigration in my opinion.

Sadly, the leftist (hell, let's just come right out and call him what he is, a communist) candidate opposing Vincente Fox in the upcoming elections in July probably still has a better than even chance of being elected despite some recent missteps. That probably explains much of Fox's bluster and his delight at poking us in the eye. When all else fails, whip out the anti-American card and double down your bets.

The race will end up going to the candidate who can manufacture the most bogus votes. We might end up with a new turnout record for a "democratic election", 200 percent or so.

So let's just say Chavez gets his man in power, and so far he's batting 1000. The current flow of illegals over the border will be a trickle compared to what we'll see when Mexico's basket case economy implodes completely like all economies do under communist rule.

I agree with you and Miss Marple that we need to take first things first. Stanch the flow first, and THEN figure out a solid, hardnosed policy about what to do with the illegals here.

Your last point, I think hasn't been mentioned here yet. Raise the legal number. It is extremely difficult for legal immigrants to get in. We are in a way punishing those who abide by the rules........that needs to be stopped.

"If there is a shortage or workers, wages go up"

We live in what is known as a bedroom community. There are many living here 55 yrs old and up that would just love a chance of a part time job to supplement their retirements, but most are taken by illegals so they're told they're over qualified.

I think you are correct, except that in some states, state courts, use the state constitutions, to strike down the denying of welfare benefits by state statutes, beyond the secondary school and emergency medical care realm (and I absolutely agree with SCOTUS that a secondary school education of anyone here, legal or illegal, is a fundamental right). State constitutions are mischievous robe empowering things, and I frankly favor doing away with them outside basic civics class governmental structure kinds of things.

I'm just not comfortable enlisting our medical professionals in illegal immigration law enforcement. I think that this is one profession we should leave out of all this mess and leave them to do what they need to do. The oath they take, imo, would conflict with refusing care to anyone. Just my thought.

For the ones that are here, I would make all the ones here learn english. If you don't want to learn english, then go home

===============================

We reward non-english speakers by posting signs in spanish and writing voter booklets in .. Spanish, and providing bi-lingual education. By that action, we encourage the use of spanish. That should stop.
