The First Entirely Positive,“How do we Help Solve the Illegal Immigration Problem?" Thread
5.12.06 | ohioWfan

Posted on 05/12/2006 5:47:27 PM PDT by ohioWfan

I’m going to try something entirely new to Free Republic………..start a thread restricted to practical, positive. pro-active things that this huge forum filled with good people who love this country can actually DO about helping to solve the illegal immigration problem, and how we can ‘encourage’ our leaders at all levels to get their acts together.

This is not a thread for venting or attacking (Heaven knows, that‘s been done plenty around here!). Let’s keep it entirely positive……..no attacks on the President and ‘Bushbots’ or the GOP………or on each other, from EITHER side. No threats to ’kick the GOP bums out’ …….we all know that the risk of having Dems in power is too great for that irresponsible threat. NO name-calling from EITHER side……..’Jorge‘ and ‘El Presidente‘ both qualify as disrespectful name-calling. (Perhaps we can all just ignore anyone who tries to turn this into a hostile thread, and punch the abuse button, but NOT engage in battle with him/her). Disagree, but be respectful about it.

What we really need are practical things we can do……with links to key Senate and Congressional offices, the White House, as well as STATE and LOCAL government offices, examples of THOUGHTFUL and POSITIVE letters to our leaders that will actually be read, and responded to. Phone numbers, and ideas for THOUGHTFUL and POSITIVE phone calls to leaders. What we also need are specific PRAYER requests for you, so that those of us who believe that our God is the God of the impossible can be on our knees in prayer for the details of this immense problem. We need fervent prayer for the President and Congress, as well as our State and Local authorities. And we need Freeper creativity!

We are LEGION, and together, I believe we can make a difference in moving this engine down the track more rapidly.

There are people who are very angry with the President and the Republicans in Congress, and people who still respect and admire the President greatly, and are angry with the Republicans in Congress……..and even some who are NOT angry with the Republicans in Congress (OK……..maybe not..... :)………..but we ALL want to end this invasion, and help our brothers and sisters in the Southwest to have their safe and normal lives return, and prevent the invasion from moving further.

Those of us outside the region may not understand what things are like, but we want to, so if those of you in the affected states could give us more details about how bad this is, without belittling us because we don’t live there, it would be much appreciated. We know it‘s bad, and we care about it, even though we cannot fully appreciate it from where we sit.

There is a great work force of pro-Bush people out in freeper lurker land who have been shoved out of the discussion by bashers. There are lots of us who want to know what’s going on, but wouldn’t go on a standard immigration thread if our lives depended on it, because the disdain for us there is palpable. We may agree with the idea of a guest worker program, or we may not, but we don‘t want to be labeled just because our ideas are different.

So…… LET US HELP YOU, PLEASE! We are activists, and we are willing to work.

Tell us what we can do. Let’s band together on this important issue to do whatever we can do to put pressure on Congress, the White House, state and local governments………polite, respectful pressure……….as well as encouraging them when they do make good decisions, and see what happens.

What do you think? Can we be pro-active and actually get something done? Can we discuss this without rancor, but with the common goal in mind to rescue our beloved country from invasion?

If you think so, please ping those who will, without personal attacks, tell us their stories, and let us get involved in getting something done. This thread is not to place blame, but to come up with solutions.

This is America………..and we are Freepers! Let’s ROLL!

You have my sympathy. One of the reasons I moved from San Diego back to the midwest, we had some friends living in San Ysidro--nice neighborhood, big new homes. Mexicans were camping in their backyard and leaving piles of trash. Police would do nothing.
I noticed in my Hoosier hospital today, after remodeling they have signs completely in Spanish. Malo, muy malo.
I tried to arrange a meeting with the owner of a Mexican restaurant and some university people who want to practice their Spanish, thinking it might help them with their English. No interest at all on his part and last time I went there, they still no hablan Ingles.
And I haven't been back.
The Minutemen that President Bush called `vigilantes' April of last year were in Wash DC today being `shouted down' today--in Spanish.
No new laws. No amnesty. No `guest workers'. Enforce Title 8, US Code.

Is there any way the medical services, freebee healthcare at the expense of the rest of us can be ended?

Yes, it means that the hospitals have to triage and send people who are not in need of emergency medical care to for-pay minor emergency clinics. That is done in some ER's. But, I suspect that those who run ER's frequently would rather treat the more minor stuff than run the risk of being sued if something goes wrong (or sued even if it doesn't).

Am I so wrong in thinking that, in putting all these thoughts and ideas together into a working system, we have developed tunnel (no pun intended) vision? Follow me a little longer....You have formed this thread to gather ideas on immigration. However, all the posters seem to be concentrating on sealing borders, language priorities, mexican migrant workers etc. When all is said and done, are we asking our government to pour all of its resources into one border, leaving other security risks unattended - such as someone just plain walking over the Canadian border with a legal visa and a dirty bomb. I understand that the flood of Mexicans is horrendous - I just worry that we aren't focusing on the terrorists coming in from everywhere else. After all - a rich muslim terrorist probably won't need medical care, public schooling or a leaf blower. Just asking.

Absolutely correct, Wolfstar. He has been facing head on a problem that has been evaded and avoided for decades.

Let's un-elect our Republicans then. Send them to the wood shed for a few years. Ok, it may be horrible w/ democrats for a while, but these people are just not listening. Make them unemployed, outsource them, replace the miserable little devils w/ illegals who will do the job they will not do.

Pres. Bush will speak on this Monday. Is there anyone at all, anyone here, that will trust what he will propose? Anyone?

Just tie the cities enforcement or lack thereof to receiving Federal funds.

That is true.

I never look at the sidebar! LOL!

Check the categories at the top of the page, just above the searh engine.

Several categories. ALIENS; HR4437; BUSH; ELECTIONS; CONGRESS.

Heck, just watch the latest posts scroll by -- it's practically 27/7 immigration articles here.

I'm running Breaking News, Current Events, and Front Page News (along with Foreign Affairs and Mississippi) as my sidebars.

When I browse or hit news activism for latest 50 replies, I see that probably 40-50% minimum are about this contentious issue.

Then why is only ONE immigration thread...an old one....deemed suitible for Sidebar?

Rat....never said this was only issue....try to stick to what I said. Thanks

imo, there are too many government employees that are aiding and abetting illegals, confusing the issue, etc. We can't enforce existing laws, how will new ones help?

A new poll a day tells me that it's Clinton Legacy building time, when BJ has blood on his hands. The only poll that matters comes in November....one in which the DUmocrats have been losing consistently (in Congress) for more than a decade.

Well...........my answer to your question is that the President has been concentrating 24/7 on keeping us safe from terrorists, and that has been, and is being addressed fully, IMO, by the administration.

I think that many of us, even those of us who FULLY support the President, have wanted a harder stance on the Mexican border.

The limpwristed Congress needs serious prodding, and I believe are finally starting to 'get it.'

That's JMHO....

Trouble is someone is selling SS #'s to illegals. the SS #'s are legitimate numbers -- of children who are too young to work -- and when SS discovers this is going on they are precluded from notifying the guardians of the child their SS # is being fraudulantly used.

When someone with an illegal SS number goes to Social Services to apply for Medicaid, food stamps, etc., shouldn't Social Services have a way to verify this is really who they say they are?

Just tie the cities enforcement or lack thereof to receiving Federal funds.

And the city attorneys will tell you that catching and detaining illegals is a federal function. Punishing cities for not making ICE agents out of their police force will cause an outcry across this country. I guarantee it.

The feds are going to have to give local law enforcement some incentives to take on this added burden because immigration is not a priority in any city that I know of.

If you want your local cops to clean illegals out of your town, perhaps you might suggest a bond issue for the next election to hire more police officers for that mission. From my experience, there just isn't the manpower now to focus on this.

Exactly. Right now the system is driving us, we need to have a way -- in this electronic age -- to drive the system.

They're called "sanctuary cities" onyx and I agree, it ought to be made illegal or failing that, if a city wants to be a sanctuary city it should be denied all federal funds.

ohioW ... Got to get some sleep. I think this thread has already been valuable in helping us understand most of us are really on the same side on this.

Maybe before we're done we can come up with a plan of action ... something positive, not just another round of berating emails to our Congressmen.

I'm not good at coming up with stuff like that ... but we have some creative geniuses here.

And if we come up with an idea or two, I'm sure Jim will help us promote them on FR beyond this thread.

Thanks for taking the initiative in starting the thread!
