Im going to try something entirely new to Free Republic ..start a thread restricted to practical, positive. pro-active things that this huge forum filled with good people who love this country can actually DO about helping to solve the illegal immigration problem, and how we can encourage our leaders at all levels to get their acts together.
This is not a thread for venting or attacking (Heaven knows, thats been done plenty around here!). Lets keep it entirely positive ..no attacks on the President and Bushbots or the GOP or on each other, from EITHER side. No threats to kick the GOP bums out .we all know that the risk of having Dems in power is too great for that irresponsible threat. NO name-calling from EITHER side ..Jorge and El Presidente both qualify as disrespectful name-calling. (Perhaps we can all just ignore anyone who tries to turn this into a hostile thread, and punch the abuse button, but NOT engage in battle with him/her). Disagree, but be respectful about it.
What we really need are practical things we can do with links to key Senate and Congressional offices, the White House, as well as STATE and LOCAL government offices, examples of THOUGHTFUL and POSITIVE letters to our leaders that will actually be read, and responded to. Phone numbers, and ideas for THOUGHTFUL and POSITIVE phone calls to leaders. What we also need are specific PRAYER requests for you, so that those of us who believe that our God is the God of the impossible can be on our knees in prayer for the details of this immense problem. We need fervent prayer for the President and Congress, as well as our State and Local authorities. And we need Freeper creativity!
We are LEGION, and together, I believe we can make a difference in moving this engine down the track more rapidly.
There are people who are very angry with the President and the Republicans in Congress, and people who still respect and admire the President greatly, and are angry with the Republicans in Congress ..and even some who are NOT angry with the Republicans in Congress (OK ..maybe not..... :) ..but we ALL want to end this invasion, and help our brothers and sisters in the Southwest to have their safe and normal lives return, and prevent the invasion from moving further.
Those of us outside the region may not understand what things are like, but we want to, so if those of you in the affected states could give us more details about how bad this is, without belittling us because we dont live there, it would be much appreciated. We know its bad, and we care about it, even though we cannot fully appreciate it from where we sit.
There is a great work force of pro-Bush people out in freeper lurker land who have been shoved out of the discussion by bashers. There are lots of us who want to know whats going on, but wouldnt go on a standard immigration thread if our lives depended on it, because the disdain for us there is palpable. We may agree with the idea of a guest worker program, or we may not, but we dont want to be labeled just because our ideas are different.
So LET US HELP YOU, PLEASE! We are activists, and we are willing to work.
Tell us what we can do. Lets band together on this important issue to do whatever we can do to put pressure on Congress, the White House, state and local governments polite, respectful pressure .as well as encouraging them when they do make good decisions, and see what happens.
What do you think? Can we be pro-active and actually get something done? Can we discuss this without rancor, but with the common goal in mind to rescue our beloved country from invasion?
If you think so, please ping those who will, without personal attacks, tell us their stories, and let us get involved in getting something done. This thread is not to place blame, but to come up with solutions.
This is America
..and we are Freepers! Lets ROLL!
Thanx. I may only have 15% of a brain left, but it works quite well.
Most of the time...
What was I saying?
Give it up for ohioWfan! She's cleaned the threshingfloor!
Agreed. A wall is a non-starter. We have all the information resources and IT facilities we need to enforce our immigration laws. All we need is a fraction of the monetary incentives present in the WoD to get every state/local LOE agency fully on board interdicting & processing illegals.
Nexus? Cops don't need no stinking probable cause - they can pull you over for the slighest infraction to begin the process. Walking? I once got hassled in Santa Monica for jaywalking. Loitering? Yeah, why do you think pickets walk in circles?
We've got every law we need already on the books. All it takes is for someone to get serious and to put a little money in play against illegal aliens.
Every President seems to control the media and then some
What's with the perjorative expressions? Idiots? Playing soldier? Guess what - citizens can pretty much do whatever they want under the 1st short of inciting a riot. You really need to go back to school.
Actually, it's clearly too late. How's it feel to be one of life's losers?
There is a public park near me that has totally been taken over by Latinos....I have no idea if they are illegals or not. A friend and I used to go out there and hit golf balls all the time. Now it just isn't pleasant. This is one of the downsides of the invasion.
One day I told him we ought to put up a sign that ICE will start conducting weekly checks....we didn't, but the thought was nice.
Those danged contrails struck again huh?
Using false documents is certainly a crime, sometimes many different laws are violated. For some reason that is seldom enforced against illegals. I would not suggest a US Citizen get caught with false documents.
What is confusing you is liberal speak that is designed to confuse. They are saying there is no specific law against being here. As far as that goes they are right- the crime is committed when they enter illegally. However, most must continue to commit crimes to get by while they are here, just as you pointed out with the false documents and things of that type.
Yea like blow up federal buildings.
It's something that desperately needs fixing and since it's on a local level, far easier to attack, than trying to get the Fed Gov on it.
This is like a battle of wits against an unarmed opponent!
Did you just make that up? WOW
Start a whispering campaign and/or post the sign! :-)
I have yet to see add one thing worthwhile to this thread. All you do is bitch and snipe. Isn't it past your bedtime, or shouldn't you be hitting some porn site by now?
What I can do as a civilian is not hire illegals to work for me, and get in writing from contractors that they won't have illegals working on jobs for me.
I think that is what has been proposed in the house Bill. I maybe mistaken. Yes this approach would take a prudent businessman off the hook completely. They would just need to make a quick phone call to the database to verify that the applicant is legit during the interview.
So far as ID goes, all they need to do is modernize the primitive Social Security cards and require that everyone who wants to continue working past a certain date reapply for a new version. There are several different ways it could be phased in as well, so that you didn't suddenly have 160 million people rushing to get new SS cards all at once.
IF there are some illegals making 20 bucks an hour, they would have to be as rare as dodo birds. In other words- I believe this as much as I believe in Santa.
The very PURPOSE for hiring illegals is to keep it cheap. Are you going to tell me next that fruit pickers are paid the going rate?
Small business is part two of America's backbone, but they have bad guys too. And the bad guys knowingly hire illegals, thus breaking the law. Let 'em off the hook? I don't think so...
It sounds as if you have a dog in this fight...
Are YOU an employer who hires illegals? Then shame on you. Please don't tell me that these business owners have no liability here. They are BREAKING THE LAW.
Oh NO kidding! What a cool guy! I wanna send him a donation!
