I've been challenging Freepers to show me that the illegals issue was actually having an impact on real elections, and until this week, I hadn't seen any. But in the past week we have seen Chris Cannon in Utah coming in SECOND in his primary against a "strong borders" guy, and now Osborn losing. So perhaps the tsunami is building.

All I have to say to our illegal friends is "No, su puede!"

Two weeks ago the first defeat of pro illegals happened. In Virginia where a mayor and several city councilmen were tossed out all because of their support for an illegal workplace.

So perhaps the tsunami is building.

Americans are very angry that the demands of Mexican citizens are taking precedence over the rights of American citizens, and that we're being forced to pay the bills for them.

The pro-illegal alien Senators hopefully will pay the price in November, no matter which party they claim to "represent".

Heineman also vetoed a bill forcing elementary-only school districts to merge with larger, K-12 districts. Osborne said the vast majority of the schools were doing a good job, but he supported closing some of them.

Anyone who lives in a largely rural state will tell you that school districts are the third rail of local politics. Kansas has one percent of all K thru 12 school children in the nation but we have two percent of the total school districts. Some 53 percent of all the school districts in the state have less than 1000 students total, or less than the number of students at a typical high school in my district. But since school districts and hospitals are about the only source of solid middle class jobs in the rural areas then the idea of consolidating them is political suicide. Any politician who even whispers support for the idea is toast.

Herndon fired it's mayor for being pro-illegal.

Unless it's Mexico or certain parts of south Texas, California, New Mexico and maybe Arizona, you don't win being pro-illegal.

Here in Massachusetts I think Tom Riley may--MAY--have torpedoed his chances at being governor with his support of the illegals' kids pay the same as MA residents proposal.

Good!

Pro-amnesty candidates WILL lose. Voters are becoming away some candidates don't place our country's interests first and center. That should be lesson up to the dimwits in Washington who want to legalize 12 million illegals in defiance of the American people's wishes.

VOTERS ARE GIVING OPEN-BORDERS FOLKS A LOT OF GRIEF -- Cannon story

Rep. Cannon's problems today are similar to what we are saying in many locales across the country. Voters are starting to make a real difference.

A couple of years ago, Cannon was bragging that he was the White House point man in the House for Bush's efforts for a guestworker/amnesty program.

He appeared at the National Council of La Raza to receive an award for his championing of illegal aliens and he was widely quoted in national media giving the reasons why illegal aliens are good for America.

Two years ago, Matt Throckmorton kept Cannon from getting the 60% of GOP convention votes necessary to go on the ballot in the fall. That is almost unheard of for an incumbent Congressman, but Cannon's immigration positions gave Throckmorton a good handle to turn. Cannon went on to win the primary but with only 58% of the Republican voters supporting him.

Ever since then, Cannon has been a little more careful and has voted pretty well on enforcement issues while continuing to push for amnesties and massive guestworker programs.

Political newcomer John Jacob (a wealthy land developer) mounted a strong challenge to Cannon based on his support for amnesty and not only denied Cannon his 60% but actually beat him 52-48.

That means the Republican voters of Utah's 3rd Congressional District will get a chance to cast a clear immigration vote a month from now, deciding whether Cannon or Jacob will be the Republican nominee on the November ballot.

This is a huge development, especially since the Wall Street Journal and Grover Norquist have been claiming for a couple of years that Cannon's victory in '04 was proof that our immigration-reduction message just can't win at the polls.

Jacob needs to be better still on immigration. All of you in Utah need to really press him to become a clearer champion of our issues. To send him an immigration survey, click here.

We had another victory at the polls in the last week in Nebraska.

Congressman Tom Osborne lost his primary attempt to run for governor. As a long-time hero football coach of the Nebraska Cornhuskers, with huge margins of victory in the past and with an endorsement by Sen. McCain just before the primary, Osborne had looked like a sure thing.

But he lost. And even he said that one of the main reasons for his loss was his support for in-state tuition for illegal aliens. His opponent stood firm against providing incentives for illegal aliens.

Osborne was a lackluster Member of Congress on our issues, with a B-minus. He wasn't that bad. But Nebraska voters made it clear that they prefer somebody a little more excited about protecting them from out-of-control immigration.

BTW, McCain spoke at the Utah convention before the vote on Cannon. McCain did his usual plea for a massive guestworker program (which, for him, includes citizenship for illegal aliens and future guestworkers). Cannon has been one of the most enthusiastic supporters in the House for solutions like the ones offered by McCain.

If McCain had an effect on the delegates, it was to remind them why they didn't like Cannon.

The Herndon, Virginia City Council was overturned by the voters over immigration.

The decision by the Herdon City Council to use public funds to set up a center for mostly illegal-alien day laborers created a controversy that got national attention.

But when the mayor and city council members came up for re-election, the voters through out all but one of the incumbents seeking re-election. The mayor is gone. The new mayor and five of the six council members was elected on a platform of opposing providing incentives to illegal aliens.

I don't know if this might tie into it or not, but Immigration sanctuary idea goes nowhere [San Antonio, Texas] is a hopeful article, especially since when we lived in Corpus Christi, SA was just terribly liberal.

Pretty bone-headed, if you ask me.

Also, several cities/counties are considering erecting tent-cities to serve as detainment facilities.

The complaint/excuse from many has been that they didn't have jail space to detail. The Sheriff of Maricopa County 'showed them the light'. Now, several other cities/counties are considering tent city detainment facilities as a temporary solution.

This just proves that WE can do something about the problem, when we have LEADERSHIP who are willing to act. If Washington politicians won't lead and if the governors won't lead, local politicians/people WILL.

Rep. Tom Osborne, the hero football coach once called "Nebraska's God."

Tom Osborne was a "god" only to a handful of morons who consider football important. He was a do-nothing congressman, and the voters wisely rejected him as a gubernatorial candidate.

Tom Osborne is what comes from electing names instead of people.

Osborne, in his three congressional elections, had never failed to
capture less than 82 percent of the vote in his district.
A previous congressional opponent had once called Osborne "Nebraska's God."

And that's no lie.
I give credit to The Boston Globe for this coverage.
And can tell you this story has been BURIED here in Big 12 country.
I grew up in Oklahoma (when it was Switzer-Land) and and have relatives
in Missouri.
I checked with my family and NOT A WORD about this in the news.
Which is what you'd expect given Osborne's god-like status in
even other states with schools that were in the Big 8 conference.

Republican Attorney General Jon Bruning, who supported Osborne, said
the congressman's more nuanced position "really wasn't helpful."

In other words, Osburne wasn't artful enough at hiding his true
mission: close down smaller school districts...so there'd be enough
money to give ILLEGALS in-state tuition at universities and colleges.

(N.B.: I'm not sure if the consolidation plan was/wasn't a winner.
But Osborne had his eye on taking money from legal students...
to give it to ILLEGALS.)

Heineman vetoed a bill allowing children of illegal immigrants to pay in-state tuition at public colleges and universities.

After our youngest child reached school age, my wife decided to go back to college and finish her degree. When I was stationed in New Mexico and again in Alabama, she had to pay out-of-state tuition. I didn't complain; we retained voting residency in Ohio so it seemed reasonable to be treated as out-of-staters, despite the fact I was stationed there in the presumed interests of national defense.

It really burns me to hear of people who want to allow illegals to get away with in-state tuition, when my wife had to pay out-of-state tuition.

I'm trying to visualize the scenario. The applicant goes to the college registrar and says, "I'm in the US illegally. I want in-state tuition." And instead of calling the cops and having the guy deported, the college registers him and charges only in-state tuition. Only in America?

If the Republicans in Congress will find, rent, steal a spine and come out hard against illegals demanding deportation, and demanding the border being secured they would find that the strong vocal support by 3 out of 5 Americans would easily drown out the frothing liberal minority calling the racists. But many pubs are so scared of being called racists that don't seem to understand that most Americans are sick of the border pharce and want it to be dealt with, and will support them strongly if they will just do so. Most Americans know good and well that being anti-illegal immigrant isn't even close to being racist. That's just the typical accusation from liberals to any Conservative deciding to make tough decisions, the liberals of course being the real racists.
