BROOKVILLE, N.Y., May 14 Backing away from her assertion that the current generation is lazy, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton said on Sunday that she simply wanted to "set the bar high" when she told an audience last week that young people today "think work is a four-letter word."
Mrs. Clinton said her daughter, Chelsea, called to complain after learning about her remarks at a gathering of the United States Chamber of Commerce in Washington on Thursday. In that speech, Mrs. Clinton criticized young people for having a sense of entitlement after growing up in a "culture that has a premium on instant gratification."
"My daughter heard that I'd said that, and she called and she said, 'Mom, I do work hard and my friends work hard,' " Mrs. Clinton said on Sunday in a commencement address at the C. W. Post campus of Long Island University.
"And I said, 'I'm sorry, I didn't mean to convey the impression that you don't work hard,' " Mrs. Clinton continued. "I just want to set the bar high, because we are in a competition for the future."
In a more immediate competition, her Senate re-election campaign, Mrs. Clinton is scheduled to be endorsed on Monday by the abortion rights group Naral Pro-Choice New York, despite efforts she has made in recent months to find common ground with organizations that oppose abortion rights.
Kelli M. Conlin, executive director of the abortion rights group, said it was backing Mrs. Clinton partly because of her efforts to promote contraception and other measures to reduce unwanted pregnancies.
While the group's endorsement is not a surprise given Mrs. Clinton's history as an advocate of abortion rights, the senator has been speaking forcefully about the need for opponents and supporters to seek to bridge some of their differences.

Anyone else very glad she isn't practicing law? Heaven help the poor slob she would have represented. The Smartest Woman in the World appears to be a dunce...
Blech.....
Other measures???? I know they don't mean abstinence, so that leaves flushing fetuses down the toilet.
Using Chelsea for Damage Control again...
(/sarcasm)
Monica Lewinsky wasn't lazy.
Gen X slackers will be rounded up with the rest of us.
Well now, there was my first laugh of the day!
Don't be offended, black Democrats. She'd never say that to you. For you, she only has the soft biggotry of low expectations.
Actually, she is right about something for a change. What she fails to realize, however, is the sense of entitlement and dependence comes from the leftist giveaway programs in place for decades. It seems as though she'd only increase that, if given the chance. She doesn't have to look any further than Bill to find the problem with "instant gratification."
Great point...she would have fit in so well as Mao's right hand during the Cultural Revolution back then.
HA! Pretty sharp for so early in the AM--what brand of coffee is that you're drinking?
...Uh, no, Hil, it's still there.
Didin't want you folks to miss the damage control the NY Times is helping her out with.
These people, the clintons, are just so full of crap.
How can anyone take these two for anything other then opportunistic liars?
Or just as likely it was planned in advance to show the softer side, the "contrite" Hillary, taking advise from the younger generation.
That's pretty arrogant, a carpet bagger accusing others of being lazy.
Yet another staged event - those people don't have a genuine bone in their body... I guess we have to be ready for another 2 1/2 years of this onslaught of diarrhea from the MSM ;-(
