A federal judge on Friday blocked a southern Kentucky high school from including prayers in its graduation ceremony Friday evening.
The American Civil Liberties Union filed a federal lawsuit this week seeking a restraining order on behalf of an unidentified student at Russell County High School in Russell Springs, 90 miles south of Louisville.
The student had appealed to principal Darren Gossage to drop the prayer from the Friday evening ceremony, but the principal refused, ACLU attorney Lili Lutgens said.
Lutgens argued that any prayer would be unconstitutional because it would endorse a specific religion and religious views. U.S. District Judge Joseph McKinley granted the temporary restraining order Friday morning, prohibiting the school district from having even a student representative say a prayer during the ceremony.
A call to Gossage's office was not immediately returned.
The U.S. Supreme Court has held that clergy-led prayer in public school graduations and sporting events is prohibited. Lutgens said earlier this week that student-initiated prayer before or after the ceremony would be OK.
I see the needs of the many have to be quenched by the one...
ACLU needs to be shut down, permanently.
Hopefully the Judge and his sycophantic minions would turn into pillars of salt.

Arrests, perhaps. I recall a few years ago some young girl went up to the dais to speak. All at once the entire class sneezed, and she replied "Bless you all."
But sex clubs are OK.
Hedonism is more traditional at the ACLU.
I hope that that's exactly what happens.Strictly voluntary it should be...those who choose to participate stand and pray,those who don't stand (or sit...or leave) and say nothing.The world goes on,nobody's lost their life and those who are offended will get over it within about 3 minutes.
But in reality,the school district will be sued by the atheist(s) who objected and some Carter appointee will award him/her/them/it serious $$$,even if the kids were specifically instructed by the faculty not to do it.
ACLU needs to be shut down, permanently.

Except if it was an Islamic prayer, then they'd be running around demanding the prayer .....

About forty years ago the ACLU did a pretty good job keeping politics out of their organization. They played it down the middle.
Recently, I had a mailing from them asking me to join to stop Bush and Gonzalez from abridging the Consitution. Words to that effect, anyway.
The ACLU has become openly hateful of Republicans, Christians, and anyone else not on the looney left.
Another so-called "judge" who thinks that he has been designated as the local god and that the First Amendment does not apply to American citizens. At least the whining little Liberal DemocRAT who complained decided it was wise to remain anonymous. That's the same thing all terrorists do. He/she will probably wear a mask to graduation.
