Please see the video for additional details not included in the article...apparently this is the first case of it's kind to be brought in Great Britain and other city governments are watching the matter closely, as the outcome will set a precedent and may cause other similar prosecutions to move forward.

My city has a $300 fine for putting the wrong thing in recycling. You are also supposed to wash everything going in the bin and you aren't permitted to put it in a plastic bag before you put it in the bin, even though the plastic bag is recyclable. They haven't fined me yet. I refuse to wash that which is refuse.

What was she thinking? She could have destroyed the environment!
This is very serious.

I think the death penalty is warranted if she is found guilty. It's for the environment, after all.

It typically takes each household one hour a week to follow these regulations on sorting the trash.
See also todays article EURO TRASH
It is on the economic costs of the British recycling program and demonstrates that recycling schemes are, almost without exception, a gross waste of time, money and effort.

I think sorting recycled materials into the correct bins is much more effective when you have people like "Terry Tate, Office Linebacker" supervising...:)

What a waste (no pun intended). I throw everything into the garbage. Consumer recycling is a huge waste of time and resources. That's why all those "green" products in stores are so expensive. If it were profitable, we wouldn't need government coercion to force people into it.

I live just outside the Seattle city limits, which means I have narrowly avoided having to abide by their insane recycling laws and associated penalties for infractions. Recycling is a fraud.

Investigate this, probably the local mayor cross contaminated her trash in the dark of night so as to seize her property on which the mayor's brother intends to open a porn shop.

I toured a soon-to-be operational plant near Philadelphia around 10 years ago. It processed garbage and using high-tech mechanical and chemical processes to efficiently sort all the recyclables and dispose (burn) mush of the real waste.
The technology's getting better and better, and yet we get asked to sort more.
