Nelson (D) 60% Harris (R) 33%
Rasamussen report ^

Posted on 05/22/2006 1:12:21 PM PDT by waterloofan

May 22, 2006--Senator Bill Nelson (D) from Florida has hit the 60% level of support in his bid for re-election. The latest Rasmussen Reports election poll shows Nelson leading likely GOP challenger Katherine Harris (R) by twenty-seven percentage points, 60% to 33%.

This Senate seat was once considered a a pick-up opportunity for the GOP. However, as the Harris campaign imploded earlier this year, Florida Republicans were unable to recruit a top-tier candidate to challenge Harris in the primary. As a result, Nelson is now one of the nation's safest incumbents.

Senator Nelson is viewed favorably by 66% of the state's voters and unfavorably by just 23%.

For Harris, the numbers are just 42% favorable and 50% unfavorable. This includes 41% who have a very unfavorable opinion of their former Secretary of State.

Sigh, maybe the polls are correct. I'm giving up on Ms. Harris. It does not appear she can win.

Way to go Florida GOP. You've got a weak Dem incumbent, so you go out and pick the worst candidate you can possibly find??

Nelson must be thanking his lucky stars that Harris didn't get out of the race. Shoot, he probably begging her to hang in there.

"Will Jeb Bush (calvary music playing in the background) come to FL's rescue after previously chickening out? Will the RNC continue stabbing Harris in the back? What booty-hole will the FL media pull their poll numbers from next? Don't miss tomorrow's episode..."

Tell ya what- as of last week- Martinez voted WRONG on the Senate bill on illegal immigration (with McCain) and Nelson voted RIGHT.

Color me stunned...I was so amazed I call Nelson's office to tell him WTG and not to back down. Also called Martinez office..and the gal in the office tried to tell me I didn't understand...

Then Harris must be a microwave.

It's one thing with it just a few polls and it is within 10 points. But this is way too much to explain by bias pollsters.

Martinez is a strong ally of President Bush and stands with him on immigration issues--that's why he was pushed in the primary in 2004 by the White House.

Anyway, Rassmussen is one of the most reliable pollsters. And it is run by Republicans.

Senator Nelson is viewed favorably by 66% of the states voters...

I can't understand this. Nelson is nothing more than a Ted Kennedy wanna be. Everything that Kennedy says Nelson runs to the microphone to say "me too, me too!" Pathetic, useless suit that he is.

READ THE ARTICLE -

Florida Republicans were unable to recruit a top-tier candidate to challenge Harris in the primary.

So it's Harris' fault that the GOP couldn't find someone to run against Nelson months before the filing deadline? Had they had, I would have overwhelmingly supported that person over Harris.

Wouldn't it make sense to put their resources behind Harris now instead of trashing her daily?

No, Harris should get no resources. They need to go to tight Senate races in NJ, MT, OH, and others.

Her high profile probably scared away good candidates who looked at name recognition as a key factor. I wished they had looked at competence as well.

Right!! The question should not be "does Harris have a chance" but "does Harris have a better chance than anyone else as of right now to beat Nelson?" Since Harris is the GOP candidate, we all need to forget what might have been and get on her bandwagon.

What did Harris do wrong?

She has a right to run for Senate, no?

If she couldn't win, then the RNC should have groomed and recruited a good candidate towards the end of 2005. Why didn't they? Instead they sat back and sniped at her, even trying to persuade Bense to run at the last minute.

Look, Harris is the nominee now. Would you rather have her win or Nelson? It's a no-brainer.

Both Bob Nelson and Martinez voted to continue offshore drilling for oil.

Burns in Montana has an ethics cloud hanging over him. New Jersey is a joke, c'mon. And DeWine in Ohio is a RINO. Harris is more conservative than all of them, and you want to divert money to those clowns?

Yeah, you are a Moderate GOPer.

Her high profile probably scared away good candidates who looked at name recognition as a key factor. I wished they had looked at competence as well.

She didn't "scare" anyone away. The RNC had months to find someone to run and they chickened out and took the low road. She has won all of her elected races. You and the RNC naively believe that people are still upset over the 2000 election.
