AMSTERDAM, Netherlands - Several self-avowed pedophiles founded a political party in the Netherlands on Wednesday, but it was unclear whether the party has more than a handful of members.
The Charity, Freedom and Diversity party said its central campaign platform will be lowering the age of consent in the Netherlands from 16 to 12.
"Forbidding children from sex only makes them more curious," party president Martijn Uittenbogaard told The Associated Press.
Uittenbogaard said his new party had supporters from "all corners of the country" but acknowledged Wednesday's launch had been marked by poor attendance. Reports said the launch in the city of Leiden was only attended by people from the media.
Uittenbogaard declined to give membership figures. The party still has to register with the government to be recognized as a political party.
He acknowledged his ideas are loathed by most Dutch people.
"A lot of people are against us and that's not strange but that doesn't worry us very much because we know we also have a lot of support," he said.
Pollster Maurice de Hond dismissed the Netherlands' newest political arrival. "No one will vote for this party. Maybe they will get a thousand voters but not the 60,000 needed to get a parliamentary seat," he said.
Uittenbogaard said he had been a pedophile activist for many years.
Party secretary Norbert de Jonge told local media that he had been a target of hate e-mails and phone calls since Tuesday.
"They think its a joke," he said, "but we're dead serious."
The party will also follow an anti-immigration policy and oppose religious elementary schools.
It endorses broadcasting pornographic material on daytime television, and allowing children as young as 12 to feature in porn films.
How about forbidding 45 year old creeps from taking advantage of 12 year olds. Any place for that in your world?

If the world were worth its salt everyone would welcome this development as a way to quickly and easily identify those to be hung.
Within a few years it will be considered policically incorrect to hate these people. We will be called pedophobes.
This is ONLY news to the decrepit Lame Stream Media. I remember RUSH saying that at one of his RUSH to Excellence that 3 protesters were their with 2200 avid fans & this LSM put the protestors on the news.
There was, as far as I know still is, 12 years olds there have the right to "consent" to pedophilia with parental consent. There was talk about that being changed, maybe did, but it was law at one point.
Probably still is.

Not to defend pedophiles, but I do find aspects of this this debate, and its similiarity to where the gay rights movement was a few years ago, awfully damned funny.
Many hundreds of years ago, in most ancient cultures – Roman, Norse, Japanese, and Persian come to mind -- if a pretty little 12-year-old boy caught the eye of a older wealthy man who was inclined that way, he might very well take him home for a bit of fun, and nobody would raise an eyebrow about it in polite company.
That sort of thing was as run-of-the-mill as a same-sex adult relationship is today to most liberals. Maybe a bit edgy, but nothing to get in a twist over.
Further, if the older man was really taken with his new "friend," he might even shower the boy's family with some nice little tidings in exchange for a permanent boy-toy status change for their lovely young son, and nary a whisper of dissent would be raised against any of them from that. In fact, many families were more than happy to accept such an arrangement. It meant money and food for them, and the kid got to hang with powerful, influential people and live it up...and get a good amount of sexual experience on the side.
Looking at it that way, it was really nothing but a win-win for everyone back in those days. Contemporary thought would have held that only an uptight hater would voice his irrational, goofy convictions against a harmless practice like that.
Then again, most of those cultures found nothing wrong with slavery, either.
They are indeed future denizens of the inferno.

I know. And "homophobia" means fear of the same. These folks always leave the most pertinent parts of speech out, or change the meanings to make normal people with moral standards look awful.
