(Angus Reid Global Scan) Most adults in the United States believe the United Nations (UN) should be the main player in discussions about Irans nuclear program, according to a poll by Princeton Survey Research Associates for the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press. 72 per cent of respondents want the UN to deal with the issue, while 21 per cent prefer the United States.
After being branded as part of an "axis of evil" by U.S. president George W. Bush in January 2002, Iran has contended that its nuclear program aims to produce energy, not weapons.
In November 2004, the Iranian government announced a voluntary suspension of its uranium enrichment program following international pressure. In August 2005, Iran resumed uranium conversion activities at the Isfahan facility. On Apr. 12, Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, declared, "I officially announce that Iran has joined the club of nations that own nuclear technology."
As far as possible steps that could be taken to handle Irans efforts to develop nuclear technology, 64 per cent of respondents favour placing tough economic sanctions against Iran, and 46 per cent would agree to provide Iran with nuclear technology if they agree to stop their own nuclear program. 37 per cent of respondents suggest supporting opposition groups in Iran, and 30 per cent would consent to the U.S. bombing military targets in Iran.
On Jun. 1, diplomats from Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia and the United States announced an agreement on "far-reaching proposals" on the Iran issue. British foreign secretary Margaret Beckett said, "We believe they offer Iran the chance to reach a negotiated agreement based on cooperation."
Yesterday, Irans Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warned about the possibility of an energy crisis in case of a strike against his country, declaring, "If (the U.S.) do start anything (militarily) against Iran, then the energy supply from this region will be seriously endangered. They will never be able to secure the energy supply of this region."

We're a nation of weenies.
This is why we can't rely forever on Democrats putting up lousy candidates. The conservative movement has done a good job of electing Republicans, but only a half-decent job at changing public opinion on policy issues. We have to change the way people think -- not kow-tow to it.

This is NOT a Drill, repeat, this is NOT a Drill
Message follows .........
Fine by me, I favor sinking every ship leaving or headed to Iran for fifteen years.
"Oh but the world economy would..."
Let it, serve the bastards right. Shoulda supported us a long time ago. Made your beds, now you can lie in them.
The US will be fine. Most productive people on earth. The rest of the world will not be, and I for one am past caring.
Let me guess... the one was the only Republican.
Someone needs to educate these people that whatever the UN does, THE AMERICAN TAXPAYER WILL PAY FOR MOST OF IT.
Dealing with a problem is one thing, solving it is a whole different kettle of fish. We saw how they dealt with Saddam.
And what send them a nastygram? Please. The U.N. is about as useless as henshit on a pump handle.
Anyone with confidence in the U.N. to do or accomplish anything is either stupid or living on another planet.
Amen.
