Despite a blizzard of negative press coverage, Ann Coulters new book "Godless: The Church of Liberalism has surged all the way to No. 1 on Amazon.coms list of bestsellers -- just two days after its official publication. [Editors Note: Get Anns book much cheaper than Amazon! Go Here Now]
On Wednesday Hillary Clinton lashed out at Coulter for what she called her "vicious, mean-spirited attack on a group of outspoken 9/11 widows, whom the conservative television pundit described as "self-obsessed, and said Coulters book should have been called "heartless.
The media attack on Coulter began Tuesday with her first book interview on NBCs Today Show. Host Matt Lauer claimed that Coulter had cruelly criticized several 9/11 widows.
But criticism from the establishment media hasnt hurt sales of Coulters book at all.
In "Godless, Coulter argues that in addition to being a political movement and philosophy, liberalism is a twisted religion whose deity is itself and she details liberalisms war on traditional religion and God. All of Coulters previous books have also been New York Times bestsellers: "How to Talk to a Liberal (If You Must), "Slander: Liberal Lies About the American Right, "Treason: Liberal Treachery from the Cold War to the War on Terrorism and "High Crimes and Misdemeanors: The Case Against Bill Clinton.
And, in a free country, one can notice the vulgar behavior of these Grief Groupies and jeer at them with relish.
The freedom that's been gained with Ann's brashness is that the next set of Drama Queens won't find their ride to fame and fortune quite as smooth.
I have an acquaintance who engages in what I'd call serial concubinage. He picks up women, they quit their jobs and move in with him for months or years. He's very wealthy and she doesn't have to do anything but keep him entertained. What he gains is her services, what she loses is her self-respect and personal volition, since she is dependent without legal standing. But he's something of a celebrity, so that makes his behavior OK in the eyes of his social circle.
I let drop once the word "concubine" and the listener was shocked. Doing this to a woman is OK with the listener--noticing what he was doing and making comment was not.
I regard all this squawking over Ann as a sort of squeamish hypocrisy.
BTTT
"And, in a free country, one can notice the vulgar behavior of these Grief Groupies and jeer at them with relish."
actually you just made my point for me.
You said....
"She's allowed to do anything she pleases, even to make a public spectacle of her grief and try to milk it for all it's worth. It's a free country."
And not once did you call her a name just to personally insult her. You didn't muse about the state of her marriage just to stoke up the fire because you probably realize you don't know anything about the state of the marriage before he died.
So...the type of criticism you just offered...I have absolutely no problem with.
"I regard all this squawking over Ann as a sort of squeamish hypocrisy."
I see hypocricy too. When conservatives complain that these widows are untouchables because of their status as widows - why are they suggesting Ann is untouchable.
If Ann Coulter displays shrewish behavior herself, engages in senseless speculation about other people's marriages....why should she get a free pass?
The message I'm getting here is that I should be upset when I see it from liberals, but I should cheer Ann when she does the same thing.
"The freedom that's been gained with Ann's brashness is that the next set of Drama Queens won't find their ride to fame and fortune quite as smooth. "
Exactly.
We owe Ann a great dept of gratitude just for that.
I'd consider getting the book on CD....does she talk as fast on that as in real life though?Ann talks in "real life" a lot like she does HERE:
thanks for the link; bought the book
"I know how they behaved after their husbands died, and so does Ann, and it sure wasn't like any grieving widows I know."
Wow. You and Ann sure are experts on these women aren't you?
So...out of ALL the grieving widows that you know, how are they all behaving nearly 5 years afterwards? Are they still in the house?
"They can do what they like.
At the same time, they shouldn't complain when they are called out for slutty behavior."
You've missed the point.
I'm not talking about what these should or shouldn't complain about.
I'm talking about whether or not it is the christian thing to do to suggest they pose naked?
Is it christian to muse that their husbands were going to leave them.
It isn't what I learned during my christian upbringing.
"Ann untouchable?
What planet do you live on?"
You are having a conniption because a fellow conservative is criticizing her. You don't think conservatives should be criticizing Ann...is that right?
"You don't think conservatives should be criticizing Ann...is that right?"
Wrong.
"Saw their rabid Hanoi John Kerry attack ads."
Grieving widows all over the world have a wide variety of political leanings.
It doesn't mean they are enjoying their husbands's deaths.
"Saw them on a magazine cover in slutty clothes."
Slutty according to who? Do you have a link to this sordid magazine cover?
"They sure didn't much sound like grieving widows to me."
You suggested in an earlier post grieving widows shouldn't be out partying so "soon" after their husbands deaths.
You never answered my question, so I'll ask again.
What does a grieving widow look like nearly 5 years after her husband's death?
"Wrong."
Ok then I must have gotten the wrong idea when you suggested earlier that criticizing her meant my politics weren't republican.
