New York: Deputy Secretary-General of the U.N. was on Wednesday night accused of making ``a very, very grave mistake'' after calling the Bush administration hypocrites who were feeding a right-wing anti-U.N. frenzy in middle America.

Washington's Ambassador to the U.N. responded with undisguised fury to a speech by Mark Malloch Brown, the Deputy Secretary-General, in which he accused Washington of using the international body ``almost by stealth as a diplomatic tool'' while failing to defend it at home.

BTW, you'll see many omissions and obfuscations from the British press on the issue in the days to come.

Time to either kick some a$$ in the UN or else get the hell out.

It doesn't take an seventh grade civics class to figure out that this organization is basically useless.

``You will lose the U.N. one way or another.''

Oh, yes, please! Can it be tomorrow? Off to Africa with you! Or France. Or Algiers. Anywhere else. Don't hesitate; don't delay; and don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Mr. Brown, you will notice, was very careful to "side step" any possible notion that "middle America" might have REASONS not to support the UN. Just an observation.

Well there is a lot of anti- us sentiment over here pushed mostly by the Independent and other MSM, but note a very supportive Times editorial the other day.

Yet at the moment it seems most papers are with the USA on this one - it is 'unBritish' to talk openly like this (even if he thought it).

There is also a lot of suspicion of the 'UN' over here, so most people would see it as the pot calling the kettle black.

I understand the US has threatened to withhold UN funds over this. Good on you. The UN is anti-American and has got away with the bias far too long.

kind regards

Let's compare the list of good and bad about the UN:

Good: Nothing.

Bad: Everything.

The UN has no morale ground to stand on, what with their corrupt staff, raping children for exchange of food, etc etc etc, to be pointing fingers at America.

All the UN has done now is expose how anti-America to the core that they are. What we see is unbridled hatred of America from the UN.

Really...? Thank you for bringing that to our attention. I hope to see more information on Britons' perceptions of the UN and will do a search or two.

And yes, I agree that most popular opinion media are behind most of the anti-western sentiment we're seeing. The propaganda campaign has been ongoing for decades. Lack of good education and upbringing resulting, in part, from fatherlessness in our countries will likely propagate the trend in years to come.

By the way, the U.S. will stay in the U.N. because Bill Clinton wants to be the king of the U.N. and will probably be someday, sadly.

and the new Human Rights Council

Who did the UN decide to name as head of their "Human Rights" Council?

Let me guess... Zimbabwe? Sudan? North Korea?

I just read this guy's speech. What an absolute load of crap. He is one indicator of why the UN has long ago doomed itself to failure. And of course he wants to blame the US for the problem. Why not? We get blamed for everything else by the UN. He's just being consistent. Well it is time for us to respond openly and clearly. The UN needs us a lot more than we need it, and we clearly DO NOT need it at all. So let's put it out of all our misery and throw it in the trash with all the other feel good nonsense that does nothing but burn our money.

If you really want to see it hit the fan, order the UN out of the US. We cannot tell them where to go, but we could say "Not Here!" And we would not pay for the relocation either.

If the US President had a good speech writer, we could answer the UN Deputy in kind. Mr. Bush cannot articulate complex concepts off the cuff but the UN really needs a shot across the bow from someone who can.

On another thread of a similar topic, a Freeper was kind enough to post a quote someting to the affect of

"I would rather have in my tent pissing out than outside my tent pissing in".

Regardless of your feelings about the UN, as long as it exists, it is to US advantage to have them in New York.

The U.N. became irrelevant back in 1948, once the state of Israel was established. They have done nothing since.

Regarding the UN - many on the liberal left support it because they don't support America (if you see what I mean).

The recent UN scandals (sex for protection, Anan's son's fortune and the mess in Sudan) has opened eye's. But Don't want to overstate the case. There will always be some who refuse to look reality in the eye.

``Much of the public discourse that reaches the U.S. heartland has been largely abandoned to its loudest detractors, such as Rush Limbaugh and Fox News,'' Mr. Malloch Brown said in a speech in New York on Tuesday.

Malloch, you are a pathetic socialist lapdog who's only benefit at the UN is that it keeps you occupied, off British streets and away from small children. I'm sure the entire Island sleeps easier on that thought.
