Jane Harman: Military Not Succeeding in Iraq

Four days after the killing of top terrorist Abu Musab al Zarqawi brought the U.S. its most stunning military success of the Iraq war, the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee is calling for Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld to be fired because the military effort is failing.

"I don't think we're succeeding militarily," Rep. Jane Harman told "Fox News Sunday."

"Continuing the same course, you know, is not getting us anywhere," she insisted. "What would help with doubters - and there are doubters in both parties all over the country - [would be] if the president decided that Rumsfeld should go."

Harman credited the Zarqawi take-out to "wonderful police work" but added: "It won't reduce the insurgency, I don't believe."

The California Democrat criticized the strategy of going after terrorist leaders like Zarqawi as "playing whack-a-mole." "We kill one person, ten arise," she complained. "That's just not the strategy that can work."

Harman called the formation of a unity government "a great achievement," and said the U.S. should focus on bringing about a political solution to sectarian violence.

"But while we're part of the political solution, we're also part of the military problem," she insisted. "And having us continue to stay there, I don't think will achieve our objectives."

Harman called on President Bush to "start moving [U.S. troops] out of Iraq . . . We should have an over-the horizon force, no question."

I'm not talking about cutting and running," the top House Democrat insisted moments later. "I'm talking about how do we win. We win politically, we don't win militarily."

Last time I checked, TF145 were not "deputies." The insurgency was reduced in that attack....by about a half-dozen.

Dems are doing everything they can to assure another defeat in 2006. Fine by me.

on the flip side, had we NOT gotten zarqawi, she'd be saying.."we need to bring the troops home, we've been looking for zarqawi and can't find him..we're failing and losing.."

no matter what happens with these people, W can do no right..

every naysay lately notes a representative or senator by name but no longer notes their political bent (R/D) usually until later in the article.....is it because all naysayers on the war are democrats?

"Wonderful POLICE work"?

Uhhmmm...Jane- this is a WAR. That means we have SOLDIERS and MARINES engaging in combat and intel gathering on the ground. This is not a police action.

Jane you ignorant slut! There! I finished your thought.

Jane Harman makes noises like being a non-partisan patriot, she does a decent job too...............until election season rolls around.

Repeat a stupid lie and then repeat again...

Oh, how many different raids took place simulatanously - 56?. We got way more the one terrorist. You don't call that whack-a-mole, it's called a round-up.

False. Leaders with the skill of Bin Laden and Zarqawi don't just pop up overnight. ....if ever. The "he'll just become a martyr" argument is just about the lamest around. Jane's statement taken to its conclusion advocates that we shouldn't even attempt to kill terrorists.

Keep on talkin', Dems.

You know- when they pop up with that- kill one a hundred more arise crap- they fail to realize that even evil leaders don't just sprout from the ground. Zarq had years of experience...he had charisma and organizing skills. Being an effective leader of a disparate and underground organization like this one is not a small task- not just anyone can come along and take over.

"It won't reduce the insurgency, I don't believe."

Jane Harman and the RATS are deeply saddened. :)

Oh yes.
You can always count on the RATS to shoot themselves in the foot every election time. They have too much hate to keep their inner evil thoughts bottled up.
Expect yet another RATS clobbering come November..as usual.

Sure, my local police force has F-16s and 500 pound guided bombs. You ought to see what they use if you double park.

Very true. The leadership of these organizations are responsible for acquiring funds, supplies, and dupes to carry out their plans. If just anyone could do it, we'd have a lot more trouble around the world. Killing these messengers is very effective. Without them, political change can occur. I don't agree with Islam being a "religion of peace," but I'm inclined to think more of its followers wish to live long lives rather than become martyrs.

. . . slut.

We just killed Zarqawi. So what does Jane want to do? Get rid of Rummy, change our strategy, and run away.
