Ads Expose Chris Cannon's Support for Illegal Alien Amnesties

Campaign Highlights Inconsistencies Between Record and Rhetoric

WASHINGTON, June 14 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Team America PAC has launched a radio campaign in Salt Lake City, Utah. The purpose of the campaign is to make Republican Primary voters aware of Representative Chris Cannon's support for illegal alien amnesties and other benefits for illegal aliens even though he represents his record as having been tough on illegal immigration.

On his website, Congressman Cannon claims he's never supported amnesty for illegal aliens and never will. In fact, Cannon has not only supported nine amnesties for illegal aliens, he's actually co-sponsored six amnesties himself. Cannon claims to be tough on illegal immigration yet he's co-sponsored two bills that would reward illegal aliens with in-state tuition. He's voted multiple times against aiding police officers in the apprehension of illegal aliens. Cannon is currently co-sponsoring a bill that protects illegal aliens from prosecution for social security fraud.

Team America' Chairman, Bay Buchanan commented, "Chris Cannon is one of the most pro amnesty congressman in Washington. It is certainly understandable why he would choose to hide his atrocious record on amnesty from his constituents but that in no way justifies the hypocrisy associated with doing so. Utah voters have a right to know if their congressman is deliberately deceiving them, especially on an issue as critical to the nation as illegal immigration."

Team America PAC launched the ad campaign earlier this week in the Salt Lake City market. The radio spots use humor to expose Cannon's claim of being tough on immigration. Throughout the spot the announcer repeatedly asks, "Chris Cannon tough on immigration?" followed by the announcer's description of Chris Cannon's support for an immigration bill that's completely out of synch with most American's views. Over the top crowd laughter then ensues. The radio spot concludes by asking GOP Primary voters to support Cannon's Primary opponent John Jacob "to begin cleaning up the immigration mess Chris Cannon helped make."

Conservative Republican Tom Tancredo has a lower lifetime rating from the National Education Association than your open borders buddy Cannon. Which congressman is voting for the liberal education camp more often? Hmmmmm?

And who is publicly calling for the dismantling of the Education Dept.

It ain't tom tancredo, it's Chris Cannon.

How many elections have you won EV?

Conservative Republican Tom Tancredo has won 4 congressional elections and will win another this November despite the lies and smears from leftists like you. How many have you won, Vidkun?

None and I freely admit that.

Of course I also didn't renege on a campign promise to self term limit myself to three terms, as tom tancredo did, nor do I set up PAC's to go against congressman that have 100% ACU ratings as tom tancredo does.

LOL, Cannon's ACU rating is the same as tsncredo's, not lower, but you learn well from your political dominatrix bay buchanan in the art of deception, but close only matters in horseshoes and hand genrnades.

That is a lie. Cannon's lifetime rating is lower than Tancredo's. As is Cannon's other scores from conservative organizations.

Another lie from Vidkun 'Dane' Quisling. That's like saying the sun came up this morning. Hey, isn't it time for another moronic Cher reference or pic?

"And who is publicly calling for the dismantling of the Education Dept."

Not that I even think it's politically practical, but there is something amiss about saying a 10-year incumbent is for something that manifestly has not happened and will never happen so long as Rep Cannon is in office. It is a talking point at odds with his actual votes:

http://www.chriscannon.com/Issues/education.html
"Against the backdrop of decades of increasing federal involvement and funding in our local schools, with little apparent benefit, I voted for the NCLB as a catalyst for needed change. Accountability, targeting resources toward real needs and closing the achievement gap between disadvantaged students and their peers were basic intentions of the NCLB, and after throwing billions of tax dollars at education without such accountability, it made sense to try to enact some common sense reforms into the manner in which federal assistance is used in our schools."

This is from hos own website. He closes with ...
"However, even with those modest improvements, the bureaucratic implementation of NCLB has made it clearer than ever that the only real answer is to get the federal government out of our classrooms."

That would be great, if only we had a "Federal Govt out of the classroom Act" with over 100 co-sponsors, including Cannon. NCLB went in the opposite direction, with more Federal money and more Federal direction.

And guess who absolutely hates NCLB, the teachers unions.

NCLB set in motion accountablity in public schools and anything the teachers unions hate, I'm for.

That's true. You beat the ever-living stuffing out of that strawman. An absolutely meaningless display and a total waste of posting space.

What irrelevant point or relationship are you going to drag out next, beat to a pulp, and declare victory over?

Deseret Morning News, June 2004: As Rep. Chris Cannon sat by, one of his aides urged any illegal aliens listening to a Spanish-language radio talk show to funnel money into his campaign by giving it to U.S. citizens who could donate it legally.

It's my contention that Cannon's record on illegal immigration was poor prior to the last Republican primary challenge by Throckmorton in 2004. Since that primary challenge, it is my contention that Cannon's voting record on illegal immigration has changed and he seems to be supporting enforcement first and HR4437 without amnesty.

I don't think that contention is accurate. This suggests he is still for legalization:

Your link doesn't give us a post June 2004 direct quote from Cannon. Cannon's remark isn't in quotes. It's a second hand account from an unnamed source.

Using a similar low standard let's take a look at Cannon's opponent, John Jacob.

What can I say? It's a MSM report on Cannon's meetings with constituents. The Journalist says "recent", which we can take to mean this election cycle.

If you want to add usual MSM grain o' salt, fine, but I dont see *any* evidence to support the contention you are making, and some evidence contrarawise. Do you have even a single quote from Cannon that "I was wrong, I changed my views." None. So why assume that he has?
The vote on HR4437 was just to get it in conference where the Bush/'comprehensive' team gameplan was to substitute the House bill for something a lot closer to the Senate bill in conference. The plan would work too, if pesky conservative didn't get all up in arms about how horrible this Kennedy-written Senate bill was.

BTW, txdoda, you do know that your hero tancredo pulled a taxpayer paycheck from the liberal dominated US Dept. of Education for 12 years, don't you.

But if Tancredo had a phony matricula card & worked off the books for 12yrs. you would support him, right ??

And also the person you hate, Chris Cannon,

I'll WAIT for you to find ANY POST where I say I hate Cannon or anyone, for that matter.
