Ads Expose Chris Cannon's Support for Illegal Alien Amnesties

Campaign Highlights Inconsistencies Between Record and Rhetoric

WASHINGTON, June 14 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Team America PAC has launched a radio campaign in Salt Lake City, Utah. The purpose of the campaign is to make Republican Primary voters aware of Representative Chris Cannon's support for illegal alien amnesties and other benefits for illegal aliens even though he represents his record as having been tough on illegal immigration.

On his website, Congressman Cannon claims he's never supported amnesty for illegal aliens and never will. In fact, Cannon has not only supported nine amnesties for illegal aliens, he's actually co-sponsored six amnesties himself. Cannon claims to be tough on illegal immigration yet he's co-sponsored two bills that would reward illegal aliens with in-state tuition. He's voted multiple times against aiding police officers in the apprehension of illegal aliens. Cannon is currently co-sponsoring a bill that protects illegal aliens from prosecution for social security fraud.

Team America' Chairman, Bay Buchanan commented, "Chris Cannon is one of the most pro amnesty congressman in Washington. It is certainly understandable why he would choose to hide his atrocious record on amnesty from his constituents but that in no way justifies the hypocrisy associated with doing so. Utah voters have a right to know if their congressman is deliberately deceiving them, especially on an issue as critical to the nation as illegal immigration."

Team America PAC launched the ad campaign earlier this week in the Salt Lake City market. The radio spots use humor to expose Cannon's claim of being tough on immigration. Throughout the spot the announcer repeatedly asks, "Chris Cannon tough on immigration?" followed by the announcer's description of Chris Cannon's support for an immigration bill that's completely out of synch with most American's views. Over the top crowd laughter then ensues. The radio spot concludes by asking GOP Primary voters to support Cannon's Primary opponent John Jacob "to begin cleaning up the immigration mess Chris Cannon helped make."

Okay, I want proof. Chris Cannon has a lifetime 97 score by the American Conservative Union and posted a 100 last year and the year before that.

I don't like seeing this guy being drug through the mud like a RINO.

Do we have bill numbers, text, and the like?

Yes, his ACU rating is nearly perfect. So is FL Sen. Mel Martinez's. The problem is that on one of the 2 greatest issues we have today (Iraq & Illegals), both Cannon and Martinez are on the wrong side of the latter issue. We have a similar problem with one of my (high-ranking ACU) Congressmen from TN, where he's dead wrong on Iraq. I know what they say about single-issue voters, but some issues are simply too important to give elected officials a pass over. If we can find someone who votes better, we should go for it and replace them (remember, they're there to represent us -- and if they're not...). Martinez still has time to get with the program, but Cannon and Jimmy Duncan have blown it and deserve defeat by more Conservative challengers.

The case against Chris Cannon
Actions Speak Louder Than Words: Cannon's Voting Record

Cannon gets a F- on Amnesty from pro-borders Americans for Better Immigration due to his support for 9 Amnesties.

Cannon co-sponsored the DREAM Act which would give in state tuition for illegal immigrants

Cannon voted against the Sullivan Amendment to help aid local law enforcement

One of Cannon's many amnesties, the 2003 Agjobs bill, protected illegals from being charged with social security fraud.

The Company You Keep: Cannon's Association with Radical Latino and Pro-Amnesty Groups

In 2002, Cannon won lawmaker of the year from the radical Mexican American Legal Defense Fund. During his acceptance speech, he tells the audiance "We love immigrants in Utah. And we don't oftentimes make the distinction between legal and illegal. In fact I think Utah was the first state in the country to legislate the ability to get a drivers license based on the matricula consular and of that I am proud." Click Here to see the Video

Huh James Sensenbrenner has called Chris Cannon a workhorse.

Also Chris Cannon has a web site calling for the dismantling of the education dept.

While the person leading the jihad aagianst Chris Cannon, tom tancredo, took a taxpayer paycheck from the Dept. of Education for 12 years.

So before you beleive the animus filled propaganda, do some research.

BTW, Cannon's tnacredo backed opponent many say broke the law by setting up a dummie corporation for a Chilean couple.

BS, Cannon has a 97 ACU rating, but in your tancredo/bay buchanan knee jerk animus, you would throw him away for an unknown, like you all did with Perot(which gave us 8 years of Clinton).

Do you all ever think with your brains instead of your knees?

Huh James Sensenbrenner thinks very highly of Chris Cannon.

Again, it's the new, detailed Cannon - a good thing, says House Judiciary Chairman James Sensenbrenner, R-Wis. "What I can say is, in Congress there are workhorses and showhorses," Sensenbrenner says. "Chris Cannon is the workhorse. Workhorses get things done in Congress."

But Jmaes Sensenbrenner thinks with his brain, instead of the knees as they do at the tancredo/bay buchanan teamamerica PAC.

BTW, tancredo is also burning bridges with good conservative Mike Pence.

I've got to dissect your latest spew. It's just irresistable.

First, you quote the ACU rating like you think it means something in the very same sentence that you trash Rep. Tom Tancredo who has a higher ACU rating. I've posted Rep. Tancredo's high ratings from the ACU and other conservative groups and all you do is complain and call it spam. Suddenly, you post Cannon's rating and use it to bolster your argument. Hypocritical, at the very least.

Then, you drop your tired "animus" crap and talk "knee jerk" behavior. When it is YOU who have the strongest animus of anyone I've seen and it is against conservative Republicans, especially conservative Tom Tancredo. At the mere mention of Tancredo's name you knee jerk into a flurry of leftist race-baiting attacks and dump a bunch of Democrat-invented lies into threads where he is mentioned. It has become a Pavlovian response with you. Someone says Tancredo and you, for the millionth time on Free Republic, start polluting the thread with your leftist rantings and slander against a solid conservative. You personify the definition of "knee jerk" yet it is what you accuse conservative Republicans of being.

Rep. Tom Tancredo's conservative voting record is nearly unparalleled in Congress. But when it is brought up in a thread where you and the other Quisling trolls are trashing him, you say things like - and this is a quote - "Ug spiff your spam means nothing." Well, you may wish it meant nothing in your constant effort to abuse this conservative forum with your constant attacks against conservative Republicans. But it means a great deal to the conservatives here who daily have to tolerate your attacks against conservatives. Anyone need only review your posting history to see an endless stream of race-baiting, smears, slander, and a constant repeat of the lies and attacks invented by Rep. Tancredo's leftist opponents.

And, for the record, here's a list that I compiled of Rep. Tancredo's sterling conservative ratings from various conservative organizations:

Rep. Tom Tancredo's ratings from various conservative organizations:
100% "Best and Brightest" Rating from American Conservative Union (one of only 38 other Congressmen)
100% Rating from National Right to Life Committee
100% Rating from Conservative Index (Spring '05 - 75% lifetime, tied for second highest rating)
100% Rating from Concerned Women for America
100% Rating from Christian Coalition
100% Rating from Campaign for Working Families
100% Rating from FreedomWorks
98% Rating from National Tax Limitation Committee (average since 1999)
95% "Taxpayer Hero" Rating from Citizens Against Government Waste
95% Rating from Americans for Tax Reform
95% Rating from Christian Action Network
93% Rating from Eagle Forum (tied for second highest rating)

Rep. Tom Tancredo's ratings from various leftist organizations:
0% Rating from National Education Association
0% Rating from National Organization for Women
0% Rating from Brady Campaign
0% Rating from People for the American Way
0% Rating from Planned Parenthood
0% Rating from Pro-Choice America

Also Chris Cannon has a web site calling for the dismantling of the education dept.

While the person leading the jihad aagianst Chris Cannon, tom tancredo, took a taxpayer paycheck from the Dept. of Education for 12 years.

"After serving two terms, Tancredo, who had taught history at a Denver junior high school, was appointed in 1981 to head the regional office of the Department of Education in the Reagan administration. But it wasn't his credentials as an educator that interested Education Secretary William Bennett, but rather Tancredo's social conservatism and his belief that the federal government's involvement in education should be downsized. In his four years with the Department of Education, Tancredo shrunk the office staff in Denver from 225 to 60 employees."

Source

Again, actions speak louder than words. How many positions with the department of education has Cannon be responsible for getting rid of?

So before you beleive the animus filled propaganda, do some research.

The research in #5 looks pretty solid to me. Which part of it do you dispute?

Cannon's tnacredo backed opponent many say broke the law by setting up a dummie corporation for a Chilean couple.

Cannon Reduced to Smear Campaign
First Chris Cannon lies about his record on immigration to the voters. Now his supporters are spreading lies about his opponent John Jacob, by falsely accusing him of hiring illegal aliens.

Tony Yapias, a major backer of Cannon , was looking for dirt on Jacob and hoping to find illegals employed in Jacob’s real estate business. He sent hundreds of e-mails accusing Jacob of hiring illegals. This is complete lie.

Here is the story: Six years ago, Jacob’s LDS Bishop asked his parishioners to help out a young Chilean couple who were in the US legally. Jacob gave them money and got them in touch with an immigration lawyer who arranged for them to work legally. No one is disputing that everything was done within the confines of the law.

I can assure you that they do a lot more conservative thinking with their brains at the excellent Team America PAC than they do at yours, the leftist and racist National Council of La Raza "THE Race".

Let's compare:

Independent expenditures, constributions, in kind donations, etc (according to the FEC database):

Randy Graf: SOLID Conservative Republican
Tom Coburn: Solid Conservative Republican
Tim Escobar: Solid Conservative Republican
Merrill Cook: Solid Conservative Republican
Kris Kobach: Solid Conservative Republican
Edward Laning: Solid Conservative Republican
Matthew Throckmorton: Solid Conservative Republican
Robert Vasquest: Solid Conservative Republican
Vernon Robinson: SOLID Conservative Republican

Well, unfortunately, La Raza doesn't have to list their supported or endorsed candidates in the FEC database. So, I'll have to improvise here:

La Raza Candidate's name here: Marxist Democrat
La Raza Candidate's name here: Marxist Democrat
La Raza Candidate's name here: Marxist Democrat
La Raza Candidate's name here: Marxist Democrat
La Raza Candidate's name here: Marxist Democrat
La Raza Candidate's name here: Marxist Democrat

Rep. Tancredo is not burning a bridge with fellow conservative Mike Pence. He simply disagrees with Pence's misguided compromise proposal which would undermine Sensenbrenner's security first House bill.

Rep. Pence is one of over 100 of the most conservative Republicans in the House of Representatives in joining and supporting the Congressional Immigration Reform Caucus which was founded and is chaired by conservative Republican Tom Tancredo. Over two thirds of the Republicans who currently possess 100% "Best and Brightest" ratings from the American Conservative Union are members of this caucus, including Rep. Pence.

The Utah Democrats did the same thing to Nancy Workman last time. Throw out some charges that turn out to be BS. Save the Good conservative Chris Cannon line. A couple of facts:

1. Tony Yapias is a Democrat.
2. Tony Yapias Organized the marches and Strikes in SLC.
3. Tony Yapias is pretty much the number one Illegal alien advocate in Utah.
4. Tony Yapias is supporting Chris Cannon for Congress.

So the chairman of the Utah Hispanic Democrat Caucus is supporting your "Good conservative". Hmm

I can relate to what John Jacob did. As an attorney, I myself donated more than $30,000 worth of work pro bono to assist a Guatemalan father to be reunited legally with his wife and daughters in the United States.

Like John Jacob and Tom Tancredo, I am unyieldingly opposed to what Chris Cannon is trying to do to our immigration laws.

That is exactly what I am saying. Yapias invented the story, spread it around in an effort to hurt John Jacob and keep his pro-illegal buddy Chris Cannon in congress.

From here:

Simon Jay, left, Russell Sias, Wally McCormick, Thom Clark and Tony Yapias at the Minuteman protest.

Latino community activist Tony Yapias, who monitored the protest, sparked some reaction from the Minutemen when he passed out a recent Anti-Defamation League report that some anti-immigration groups are reaching out to white supremacists.

Yapias, a naturalized citizen from Peru, said "it's offensive" that a few Minutemen confronted him, saying "his Mexican government" is corrupt.

"I wasn't trying to tell them they are racist," Yapias said. "They are targeting a specific race, 'my people' according to them. . . . It's targeting an ethnic group, the Latinos here."

The Minutemen accused Yapias of "playing the race card."

Now why would this guy support Chris Cannon? Hmm. Dane, please, I'm be serious, why?

No, it looks like she is sitting behind Rep. Tancredo in Schieffelin Hall in April of 2005. She was joined by a number of Minuteman Project organizers and speakers at the kick off meeting of the Minuteman Project. I was in attendance at that very meeting. That was where I met Bay Buchanan. I've met Rep. Tom Tancredo on several other occasions.

That you can concoct an allegation that conservative Republican Bay Buchanan is controlling conservative Republican Tom Tancredo based upon one single photo, about which you know nothing, is further proof of your delusional nature. Seek treatment.

bay buchanan is a "conservative Republican"?

Whew you all are just as bad as the revisionist history liberals.

I guess bay buchanan running her brother's 2000 Reform party campaign has been erased.

But keep on posting Spiff, the more you post the more silly you look.

Didn't Ronald W. Reagan install Bay Buchanan in some position? I think treasurer of the United States (though not really sure.)

tancredo Expresses Disappointment at Pence's Immigration U-Turn(tancredo has lost it)

Looks like royal wannabe tom tancredo was not amused at Mike Pence's common sense approach.

Uh more like a glowing endorsement from good conservative James Sensenbrenner, especially the contrast of workhorse Chris Cannon, with showhorse and bay buchanan sock puppet tom tancredo.

Tepid.

And Sensenbrener may have put together good legislation with HR 4437, but his overall record on immigration issues is questionable. Some of his recent votes and sponsorships demonstrate this:

2005-2006: Cosponsoring H.R. 3402 that contains provisions to reward illegal aliens with amnesty Rep. Sensenbrenner is a cosponsor of H.R. 3402. Title IX of H.R. 3402 loosens the rules governing visas for victims of trafficking and domestic violence and their families and would reward certain illegal aliens with amnesty.

2005-2006: Cosponsoring H.R. 3402 that contains provision to increase chain migration Rep. Sensenbrenner is a cosponsor of H.R. 3402. Title IX of H.R. 3402 loosens the rules governing visas for victims of trafficking and domestic violence and their families, resulting in an increase in chain migration.

According to Americans for Better Immigration (an organization which supports immigration law enforcement and border security) he ranks 51st among House Republicans on the immigration issue. He gets kudos for HR 4437, but not much else.

Further, his conservative ratings from various conservative organizations are even more lackluster than Cannon's and certainly nowhere near as good as Rep. Tancredo's ratings.

An endorsement from Rep. Sensenbrenner, especially a tpid one, is not all that valuable.

I am relatively undecided on this Cannon thing but your defense of him in the face of massive evidence that he is pro-amnesty has been to repeat "Sensenbrenner has endorsed him" 20 times in a row. So what? Incumbent ongresscritters will have each others back even if they disagree on everything (See: Specter/Santorum). This proves nothing.

If you can address the actual substance of their attacks -- the amnesty bills he has voted for or sponsored -- it might be a bit more convincing.

Actually it wasn't 20 times in a row, but Sensenbrenner's words say a lot.

Look we can't do a Vulcan mind meld 24/7 with every Congresscritter, but have to rely on the words of people who actually work in Congress.

I;ll trust Sensenbrenner's opinion than the tancredo/bay buchanan opinion any day of the week.

Whether or not she assisted with conservative Pat Buchanan's third party campaign does not change the fact that Bay Buchanan is a conservative Republican.

And, by the way, a quick Google search shows that the only people attacking Bay Buchanan are the KOS and DU leftist fringers and YOU. Birds of a feather... Yet, they do it on their own leftist forums. You, instead, abuse this conservative forum to attack conservatives.

Where does Tancredo work currently?

Pence's approach was novel and well-meant. But it, in fact, undermined the security first approach of the already passed HR 4437. Rep. Tancredo did come down a bit hard on Rep. Pence. But, among border security/immigration reform advocates who have worked so hard to get good legislation passed, the Pence plan went over like a fart in church.
