Free Republic Tenth Anniversary Plans (Vanity)

The tenth anniversary of Free Republic is coming up (this November!) As a result, I would like to see some sort of a get-together take place, in either San Diego, Arizona, Texas or Florida (or some other venue in a Freeper-friendly part of the country). What I would really like to see is someone, perhaps a well-known or wealthy lurker, help organize a Freeper Convention that would include banners, flags, Freeper stuff for sale at booths, a Freeper "museum" with displays centering on famous Freeper moments (threads, Freeper Actions, well-known and infamous Freepers, and Freeper lore, etc). Also, I'd like to see a well-known guest speaker emcee the event (Rush Limbaugh? Ann Coulter?) For entertainment, I'd like to see Toby Keith, Alan Jackson, Jeff Foxworthy, Bill Cosby or some other well-known, preferably conservative (or at least not rabid left-wing) entertainers. Any plans afoot for something like this? It would be a blast and we could all get to meet each other in person (travel arrangements could be made for Freepers in other countries).

I think it's a doggone shame that Rush, Matt, Sean and Ann aren't asking Jim Robinson and his sons to come to *their* anniversaries!
The Robinsons are, in large part, the reason these people are famous!

Republicans had their National Convention here in 1996.
Didn't bother Republicans where taxes went.

Many talk shows use Freerepublic as a source of info for "show prep." Tony Snow & Mark Levin are the only talk show hosts that I know of ,who have given FReepers credit for some of their "show prep" work.

Random thoughts...
- Why not hold the main event in Fresno, Jim Robinson's hometown? That would be fun to blow into a mid-sized city and "take it over" for a weekend (in a friendly, economically beneficial way, of course).
- Involve a strong Internet component, since that is what FR is all about. Have simultaneous gatherings in communities all of the country (and world), and tie in with Web cams.
- Add in a social component at each event, raising funds for troops' families, local cops, etc. Something to serve our finest (without requiring any governmental funds, of course).
I'll post more if I can think of anything...

Have you ever listened to a guy named Schnitt on FM in the morning as MJ and in the evening as Schnitt on 970 AM?
I swear his show is straight from FR. He even uses terms that I know orginated here.

sort of a "Dan's Bake Sale"...Exactly! That wasn't a big media-organized, self-congratulatory event (YearlyKos anyone?). It was small, organic and authentic. Fresno is more "Red America" than Vegas or even San Diego, IMHO.

OK------ Here is an example of its use: When the conversations turn to conservative supported issues getting a lot of attention, nobody mentions it, but they are sure aware of the "800 pound gorilla in the room" (FreeRepublic). It's a kind of version of the emperor's new clothes...everyone sees the emperor is not wearing anything but they do not dare say it.
In other words the pundits usually get their talking points and their inspiration or motivation for a topic based on what they have been reading in FR the previous 24 hours. But...they will not mention Free Republic specifically by name. Several reasons for that.

I also came on during the election recounts. What great times.
Maybe we can ask Mark Warner if he wants to throw a $100,000 party like he did for Daily Kos last weekend. We can lie to him, and tell him that we are sick of the "NeoCons" and that we are listening to all "moderates" like him.

I like the idea of a lot of local chapter events - some nerd (like me) can prolly work out a vid cam for each site so we could FReep the various events - I've got kids with school, lessons, work, etc. that makes it tough to go across the country ... just in case anyone is listening ... ;-)
