We had a very similar situation.

13 years ago we found out our child was not growing within the womb (Inter-uterine growth retardation). We were told by the "experts" that if the child was continued to live it would probably be born with severe handicapping conditions. They recommend we abort.

My wife and I knew that was out of the question. 3 months later, after my wife was put on bed rest, we had a baby girl, through Cesarean.

She is about to turn 14 in a month. She is going into 8th grade, is energetic, happy, and very normal, albeit small for her age.

She's our miracle baby, and best of all, she defied all the "expert" opinions.

Thank you for sharing your story. I wonder how many of us--who have been told to have an abortion--have these wonderful chidren living life to the fullest! God is Good!

It takes threads like this to remind me of our miracle. I never want to forget what the Lord has done for us.

I also have an IUGR baby. Fortunately, my expert doctor never recommended abortion. He was more concerned with the baby surviving through the pregnancy. Noah was born two months early weighing only 2 pounds but he was otherwise healthy. He will be coming up on his first birthday in August and we couldn't be happier! He is such a delight! (And the cutest baby ever!!) ;-)

If the doctors had recommended abortion I would have gone elsewhere. It just makes me sick how many kids are put to death just because someone thinks that they may have a problem. So many are born perfectly normal and healthy. And the kids who are born with problems can be such a blessing.

What an amazing story, Jay.

May God bless you, your wife, and your daughter.

Absolutely correct. God is good!

My wife and I have always maintained that we want a healthy baby, but if not, to give us strength to deal with whatever comes along.

A baby is a miracle, and we accept what the good Lord gives us.

Often during our pregnancy with Kathryn, our IUGR baby, people would tell us they would never have the fortitude to do what we did. I tell them,"You don't know what you're capable of until you do it."

The pathetic whine of the Majority Leader, "I think it was amazingly rude to use a human being as an example of his personal politics." is priceless.

Liberals do that all the time...is the irony not lost on anyone? He was the one who was insulting, but notice how quick he was to spin the blame!

Truth hurts.

Amazing. When I started bleeding early in my pregnancy, I had three doctors tell me I was miscarrying and they wanted to do a D&C right away. I was hysterical. Talk about trying to force an abortion on someone.

I demanded to see the Head of Obstetrics of Mather AFB Hospital, Dr. E. Paul Reid. He examined me and sent me home. Less than a week later we heard the heartbeat of my supposed already-dead baby. That day, I found out Dr. Reid was a believer. And all this transpired before I became a believer.

PRAISE THE LORD. Dr. Reid, if you're listening, God bless you. My girl is now 17, the baby who "wasn't supposed to be here" according to one of the other surgeons (butchers). If they had their way she wouldn't have been.

That's wonderful that you didn't give in to the doctors' request for a D&C!

My first pregnancy ended in a miscarriage unfortunately. I went in for my 12 week checkup and my doctor wasn't able to hear the baby's heartbeat so she went and got the portable ultrasound machine. It showed the form of a baby about the size of a kidney bean, which is indicative of a baby at 8 weeks. She sent me for another ultrasound on a better machine and it showed the same thing. She told me that the baby had died at 8 weeks and we could either wait and let nature take its course or do a D&C. I chose to wait for a week.

Nothing happed during that week, so I went back and had my doctor double check with one more ultrasound before scheduling the D&C. The baby's size had shrunk a bit, so there was no question he/she died early on. At my follow up appointment after the D&C I learned that the baby had three entire sets of chromosomes rather than two and that it caused something called a partial molar pregnancy. A D&C was required to end the pregnancy or else the placenta would continue to grow out of control.

My second pregnancy was watched very closely early on because of this miscarriage. I can't tell you how wonderful it was to see and hear Noah's heartbeat at seven weeks! I just look at him and remember that I was so fortunate to see him just seven weeks after the beginning of his life. It was amazing to see him grow and develop from one month to the next. (I have so many ultrasound pictures I could wallpaper Noah's room!)

I praise God for both of my children. I know that one day I will see my first child in the perfect body that he/she didn't have in this world. And hopefully one day soon I'll be able to see the beginning of life for my third child.
