On the first day of summer, ABC News is asking the public to help document changes in the environment allegedly caused by "global warming."
The network's website features a page which solicits both stories and video on the subject.
"ABC News wants to hear from you," the network states. "We're currently producing a report on the increasing changes in our physical environment, and are looking for interesting examples of people coping with the differences in their daily lives. Has your life been directly affected by global warming?
"We want to hear and see your stories. Have you noticed changes in your own backyard or hometown? The differences can be large or small altered blooming schedules, unusual animals that have arrived in your community, higher water levels encroaching on your property.
"Show us what you've seen. You can include video material of the environmental change, or simply tell your story via webcam."
ABC provides an online form where participants can provide descriptions and comments, as well as upload photographs and video to help evince claims of purported climate change.
Meanwhile, also on the ABC News website today is a story with a headline reading, "Is Global Warming Fueling Western Wildfires? Since 1970, the Number of Major Blazes Has Soared."
The report quotes Anthony Westerling, a researcher at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography in southern California.
"The snow is melting earlier in the year at very regular intervals now, and we're getting much longer fire seasons. It dries out much more than before," Westerling said. "Some of our fastest growing areas are going to have the biggest increases in fire frequency in the future driven by temperature increases from climate change."
The network also interviewed Mat Fratus of the San Bernardino City Fire Department, who was astonished at the size and ferocity of wildfires plaguing the American West this month.
"It appears that global warming is an issue that is not going to subside or go away anytime soon," Fratus said. "What we thought was the anomaly will soon become the rule."
Despite these new claims, the idea the Earth is heating up is hardly a universal belief.
As WND previously reported, a NASA-funded study noted some climate forecasts might be exaggerating estimations of global warming.
The U.S. space agency said climate models possibly are overestimating the amount of water vapor entering the atmosphere as the Earth warms.
The theory many scientists work with says the Earth heats up in response to human emissions of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, causing more water to evaporate from the ocean into the atmosphere.
WorldNetDaily also reported that Dr. Fred Singer, professor emeritus of environmental sciences at the University of Virginia, maintains there has been little or no warming since about 1940.
"Any warming from the growth of greenhouse gases is likely to be minor, difficult to detect above the natural fluctuations of the climate, and therefore inconsequential," Singer wrote in a climate-change essay. "In addition, the impacts of warming and of higher CO2 levels are likely to be beneficial for human activities and especially for agriculture."
In July 2004, the London Telegraph reported on a study by Swiss and German scientists suggesting increased radiation from the sun not human activity was to blame for climate changes.
"The sun is in a changed state," said Dr. Sami Solanki of the Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research in Gottingen, Germany. "It is brighter than it was a few hundred years ago and this brightening started relatively recently in the last 100 to 150 years."
The research adds credence to the beliefs of British professor David Bellamy, president of the London-based Conservation Foundation.
"Global warming at least the modern nightmare version is a myth," Bellamy told the Telegraph. "I am sure of it and so are a growing number of scientists. But what is really worrying is that the world's politicians and policy-makers are not.
"Instead, they have an unshakeable faith in what has, unfortunately, become one of the central credos of the environmental movement: humans burn fossil fuels, which release increased levels of carbon dioxide the principal so-called greenhouse gas into the atmosphere, causing the atmosphere to heat up. They say this is global warming, I say this is poppycock."

Here is absolute evidence of global warming:

Unfortunately for the Main Street Media, it happens to be evidence of global warming on Mars. Somehow, one must doubt that humans have much to do with it. Solar event anyone?
Today is June 22nd and it's hot, please help me Al Gore!
But, since ABC is dinosaur media, the facts shouldn't get in the way of the story. Just show some handwringing and a few tears.
This is GREAT!

I want to see the amount of CO that is produced by Al Gore in his whirlwind tour promoting his movie. I can be certain it is more than my family produces in a year at least. We could slow the warming by just keeping his mouth shut!
It is now 85 degrees outside, whereas six months ago the temperature here was a mere 34 degrees. That's an increase of 51 degrees in only six months. If that's not proof of global warming, what is?
Coastal San Diego was much cooler than normal this year causing a delay in the blooming of agapanthus plants and jacaranda trees. I blame global warming.
There's another thread if you want to see other comments. I know this is a totally different article, so I'm not being a net.cop. It's just that there are some funny comments. For example, see post 13 in that thread.
