The always modest, always charming Howell Raines, executive editor of the New York Times, has a new autobiography out, The One that Got Away, a sequel to his 1993 memoir Fly Fishing Through the Midlife Crisis.
Dipping into his latest book on his love of fly fishing, we find Raines still rising to the conservative-bashing bait.
On page 189, he lets fly with thoughts about liberal bugbear Fox News: Fox, by its mere existence, undercuts the argument that the public is starved for fair news, and not just because Fox shills for the Republican Party and panders to the latest of Americas periodic religious manias. The key to understanding Fox News is to grasp the anomalous fact that its consumers know its news is made up. It matters not when critics point this out to Foxite consumers because theyve understood it from the outset. Thats why theyre there. Its chief fictioneer, Roger Ailes, had been making up news in plain sight for a half century.

Roger Ailes was 15 years old 50 years ago, Howie.
Ailes hasn't been involved in journalism for even thirty years, let alone 50.
And no one has ever credibly accused Ailes of concocting a single story. Not one.
Nor has anyone ever documented that anyone Ailes has ever hired has invented interviews out of whole cloth.
Enjoy your refirement, Howie. Keep lying, we don't care.
It is difficult to defend liberalism in an honest debate. It is sold through lies and smears. Conservatives are labeled "mean" but they aren't into redistributing "the wealth" up or down and they don't make up phony justifications to explain why Marxism is a good thing.
Projection.
The man that gave us Jayson Blair. Where does he get off, criticizing Fox?
He is right remember Fox attaching explosive devices to the gas tanks of vehicles to spice up the story? Oh, wait that was NBC.
Oh, oh, yeah, remember FOX with the fake FAX proving GWB got special treatment in the NG? Oh, wait again that was CBS.
OH, Oh, Oh, I know, remember FOX telling us how WhoreAldo pushed aside paramedics so he could get in the shot...... Never mind that was.....NY SLIMES.
Ah....another liberal credo. Accuse others of your crimes.
To add to your glee, click the following link to see a chart of how well the NYT's stock is fairing!

Perhaps a more html-literate Freeper could post the chart for all to see. It's a doozy!
Does this have something to do with gay pride?
""his love of fly fishing..." "
I am keeping my fly closed so this maroon doesn't get near it.
Can he or anyone site an example of their making up news?
Even better is this comparison chart with the S&P 500 over the same 2-year period.

Old Howell Raines really put the times on the course to recovery!
The only thing that has cheered me up more recently
are Dixie Chick ticket sale figures........ Thanks!
LOL. Fox regularly gives Katrina Van Der Heuvel, editor of The Nation, a forum for her communistic twaddle. Fred Barnes and Morton Kondrake were mainstays at the very liberal The New Republic magazine for years, and now are together on a Fox show.
I'd need to see the Grand Wizard of the KKK on MSNBC once a month and a weekly show with Michael Savage (oops bad example) before I could take their claims of balance seriously.
More like "monkey fishing" ...
How the mighty have fallen.......Ignominiously booted from the NYT......reduced to writing books about fishing....now reduced to fishing for flies......unaware that flies do not swim.......a shame.....but sooooo deserved.
