With sky-high gasoline prices providing a fresh perspective, Sen. John Kerry on Monday unveiled an energy plan reprising themes from his 2004 presidential campaign. The Massachusetts Democrat called for reducing oil imports, increasing the number of cars powered by renewable fuels and focusing on cutting greenhouse gas emissions

Why, here it is:

In part, he suggested achieving that goal by requiring oil companies to provide at least one ethanol pump at their stations by 2010. He also called for a series of tax credits so consumers and carmakers will ensure 20 percent of all passenger cars and trucks as hybrids as of 2020.

Wonder what ethanol will cost per gallon since it's got about half the energy of gasoline.

Wonder how a tax credit is going to cover the difference in cost between a $15,000 Corolla and a $25,000 whatever hybrid? It's not going to get it done for me.

Maybe Kerry will trade his SUV for a hybrid.

Is this really breaking news?

I'd be more interested if he passed gas.

I'm surprised that Kerry isn't proposing a 50 cent a gallon tax on gasoline. That was the Democrats' only answer until recently.

The Kerry plan?

The U.S. should return to the "horse-face and buggy" days...

We need to let the engineers, scientists and market forces decide what happens. Every time petroleum rises in costs, the disadvantages of alternative fuels in general are reduced and the impetus for research increases. Furthermore, as prices increase more resources of petroleum become economically viable to access, such as oil sands and shales.

We DO NOT need some bunch of inbred bluebloods who collectively couldn't change a flat tire setting the course.

"....reducing oil imports, increasing the number of cars powered by renewable fuels and focusing on cutting greenhouse gas emissions..."

Pull the plank out of your own eye, Mr. Kerry, before you remove the splinter from your neighbors eye.

Conservation starts at home, don't forget the saying.

I'd like to see the South and farmers benefit from this. We should see a paradigm shift from the ME to the heartland/south re: energy production. It should be the world buying the most innovative energy from us, not us buying crap from crap.

It is like the typical Kerry plan. He says he has a plan, and that is it. Heck of a plan, eh, we'll use less oil, more ethanol (that takes energy to make and transport) and get better mileage...there's no "how" to any of it.

Maybe Kerry will trade his SUV for a hybrid.

Can't. Remember he said he "doesn't really own it", it belongs to "the family", or some such double talk? Probably the same as Redford saying he can't get rid of his Explorer because he uses it for "exploring". Hypocrites...

It;s really easy to "call for" something, and one hell of a lot more difficult to describe just how you would accomplish what you call for.

Typical.

THE PLAN:

Kerry proposed a hard target of reducing U.S. oil consumption by 2.5 million barrels per day as of 2015

-requiring oil companies to provide at least one ethanol pump at their stations by 2010.

-a series of tax credits so consumers and carmakers will ensure 20 percent of all passenger cars and trucks as hybrids as of 2020.

-reducing oil use through expanded availability of ethanol and hybrid vehicles, as well as increasing automobile fuel-economy standards.

He added: "I believe that if Al Gore had a vote in the United States Senate, it's what he would vote for."

So now you know that Kerry ahs a real plan....on how to continue being a major moron!

This plan has The Official Al Gore "Hot Air" Seal of Approval

Kerry outlines updated energy plan

Meanwhile, he doesn't have a "gas-guzzling SUV", his family does. He burns up thousands of gallons of jet fuel flying to political events in a private jet with high fuel consumption.

Everytime Kerry opens his mouth, he proves he's just another Limousine Liberal spouting the "do as I say, not as I do" adage.

Poop on him!!

I'd like to see the south benefit in any way that didn't involve more socialism, more Yankees or more Mexicans.

I'd like to see some drilling off of Florida for a start.

However, as far as ethanol goes, corn isn't going to be the crop to make it from. Sugar beets and sugar cane are a better way to go. Furthermore, we should be using natural gas to operate vehicles, cook food and heat things and let nuclear do our electricity. Coal should be made into gasoline. Biodiesel has promise.
