...Karl Rove is why I am a Republican. He is how Republicans are...
The real Republicans are the hardware store owners in Little Rock, the factory workers in Kentucky who believe in life, the retired aerospace workers in Palm Desert who are concerned about the moral decay of the culture...
Real Republicans are not haters. Not ever. It's just not in them to hate, just as it's not in any real American to hate any other American who lives within the law...

Thanks for posting the article.
"They wouldn't stop hating him even if they did know him, because that's who they are, no matter who he is."
I call that the BOTTOM LINE.
With all due respect, Mr. Stein, I would wager that you don't know too many bureaucrats below the level of deputy director.
That Iowahawk, what a cut-up! :-D
Spot on, as usual.
like you...I also have always lived in leftwing states and locales. Long ago, I was a democrat, but that's because growing up democrats weren't the elitists, the northeastern republicans were. Now I live amongst a bunch of know-better than you snobs...who are all democrats.
I realized how extreme they'd gotten, when at a pool, one of them was eave dropping in on a conversation between my husband and I, interjected and told my husband not to use the word "cow" when referring to a female. Since she missed the joke, she didn't know it was meant in a funny context. So what does one do?
Last week, I was shopping for a gift for my mother, in Bar Harbor Maine...and a shop keeper, after I had just purchased a beautiful handmade bowl, took it upon herself to correct me. I had replied "oh right", in agreement to something she said...and she exclaimed: "don't say right, say exactly!" I was infuriated...in hindsight, I know, I should have returned the bowl...
Eh????
I'm a Republican because of Ronald Reagan, and I've been too lazy to go down to the elections office to take the affiliation off my registration.
Perfect!
His column was the only thing I regularly skipped over in the old American Spectator.
Lordy, I'm already pining for Karl Zinsmeister and he just left.
Wait a second...
And what do you call this... lovey dovey, sugarpie, honeybun? LOL!
That's OK, I forgive you, Ben. I thought it was funny, though.
As he says in this very article "my driver had been working at the FTC back in '72-3 when I worked there and we remembered each other".
He was a trial lawyer in the field of trade regulation at the Federal Trade Commission in Washington, D.C. and a speech writer and lawyer for Richard Nixon at The White House and then for Gerald Ford.
This is an infrequent ping list for Ben Steins current articles.
Tell me if you want on.
Thanks for the ping and great article...

That's why we love people like Ben Stein.
Very high praise indeed.
I don't hate liberals. I hate their spineless, limpwristed, socialist ideas.
ditto.....
