Iraqi Leader Says No Pardons for Attacks on Americans
NY Times Terrorist Tip Sheet ^ | June 27, 2006 | SABRINA TAVERNISE

BAGHDAD, Iraq, June 27 —Prime Minister Nuri Kamal al-Maliki of Iraq said today that attacks on American soldiers would not be pardoned under the rules of a new Iraqi amnesty plan.

In his first meeting with Western reporters since becoming prime minister last month, Mr. Maliki sought to allay concerns raised by many in the United States that the plan, which he unveiled Sunday as part of a broad effort to draw down insurgent violence, would essentially allow attacks on Americans.

"There will be no amnesty for those who have killed Americans," Mr. Maliki said during the briefing, which lasted almost an hour and was held in a conference room in his office. "I think this would bring a very negative reaction among Iraqis who are related to those who were killed and among Americans who are related to these people."

A loud public debate about the amnesty has followed Mr. Maliki's announcement on Sunday, as Iraqi political leaders Sunni, Shiite and Kurd try to understand whom it covers. The wording was left purposely vague, said one Iraqi government official, in order to satisfy all Iraq's fractious groups.

"Everybody needs to be ambiguous here," the official said.

Today, insurgent violence claimed the lives of 26 Iraqis and one American soldier, and wounded another 41 people. The casualties include more deaths from a bombing on Monday in the Shiite village of Khairnabat north of Baghdad while the locals were watching soccer.

American military officials released new details about the deaths of the three American soldiers killed by insurgents near Yusufiya, the Qaeda stronghold southwest of Baghdad.

Maj. Gen. James Thurman, the commander of American forces in Baghdad, said that soldiers, in a large search effort, followed a trail of "evidence" in a power plant, on a canal road, and in the...

It's about the third time over tha last few weeks he has had to state that. Because the MSM and the democrats keep misconstruing what is happening there. I'm sure it waill happen at least a couple more times. MSM gives false report, dems pretend to care just to savage the war effort.

Howie and Murtha and Feingold all belong in prison.

I hope the left reads sign language and knows what middle finger up means because that's the sign just given to them.

The Marine Corps in Vietnam had a program called the Kit Carsons. Former North Vietnamese Army personnel, who surrendered under the Chu Hoi amnesty policy, were trained to serve S-2 (intelligence)as scouts, interpretors and interogators and traveled to the field with infantry companies. Over a period of time I had conversations with several of these people and even swapped war stories with some of them. I often have wondered their fate when we abandoned Vietnam.

I am not drawing a definite comparison between the NVA and the insurgency in Iraq but armies through history have benefited by embracing former enemies and using them as weapons against their old comrades.

*wink nudge*

The problem with these people is they have zero faith or respect for the rule of law. They've been ruled by the strongest man forever. They think democracy is a big game until the next strong man regime is up and running. Look at that trial of Saddam. High comedy.

I expect something was lost in the English translation. That probably is not what he meant.

It didn't the first several times - and whadda ya wanna bet they will still spew their socialist tactics of ignoring it - again - and continue their bald faced lie.

They know that a lot of people don't have time to listen to FOX and other no-spin zones...and will believe their traitorous bilge.

Look at that trial of Saddam. High comedy.

Some of that might be attributable to the fact that there was no real justice in Iraq prior to the start of the trial. It was like holding a Super Bowl with raw rookies and expecting a classic game.

Of course this must be our position. The question is when we can give amnesty for some and who we never give amnesty to. Look at WWII history and the Nazis specifically. Some upper level officers deserved to be tried and executed while many others were let off the hook. Now is not the time to be soft on combatants who ordered the deaths of our troops. Most of our boys have died from roadside bombs. The bombmaker might receive a light jail sentence while the planners get execution or life imprisonment. In any case, right now no one should receive amnesty until the conlict has ended or we have withdrawn our troops and I don't see either happening for at least a year or two if not more.

"There will be no amnesty for those who have killed Americans"

Good. How about expanding that to "No amnesty for those who have committed treason against the U.S." such as the editors of the New York Times, etc.
