SOUTH CAROLINIANS- CALL TO SHOW TROOP SUPPORT
June 29 | flib

Posted on 06/28/2006 5:38:20 PM PDT by flib

Every Wednesday evening in Columbia, SC a group of "peace activists" (traiterous cowards) protest US involvement in Iraq. They hold up signs that denegrate the efforts of our troops. Calling it a "war for oil" and demanding that we "end the occupation" ( They obviously never looked up the definition of that word.) They do this near the foot of the capital steps 5-6 pm. Columbia is home of Fort Jackson which is one of the largest initial entry training posts in the army. It is also located near Sumter -home of Shaw Air Force Base. As a military wife, I could not stand the thought of a single soldier or family member passing by this shameful display and becoming disheartened and discouraged. I have spent almost every Wed evening since June of 2005 at the same location with signs in support of our troops and their mission. I have had numerous soldiers and family members thank me. One that really stands out is a youong hero who was home on a few weeks leave from Iraq. He and his pretty girlfriend walking hand in hand had to encounter this shameful display. He then came upon my signs and without hesitation, with tears in his eyes came up and hugged and thanked me. He was the one deserving ALL OUR THANKS. This seems to some like a waste of time, but we need to remind those not serving to consider the sacrifices made by others for their behalf as well as thank those who serve us all. Another wife joined me last September, but we really could use some MORE support. I know how busy we all can become,(I work, have three kids, and a wonderful soldier for a husband.)but can you spare some time ONCE a month? We go every Wed and anyone is welcome, but we are shooting to get a big crowd the first Wed of each month. The kick off of this is JULY 5th. How appropriate! We meet at the intersection of Gervais and Main Street. We begin at 5:00pm and end around 6:00pm. Send me a note if you want more details and contact info. Flib

I have yet to see anybody ask the 'peace activists' to explain EXACTLY how we're gonna get any oil out of this effort. They would be SPEECHLESS!

yes I'm hollering. Yes I'm pissed.

Holy moly! I live just up the street in Columbia SC on Senate St. Sure I'll be there on the 5th! I'm a reservist (aging Vietnam vet, OK?) but I just volunteered for Iraq. In uniform, yes or no?

(please say yes)

I had the pleasure of FReeping Castro supporters with Flib yesterday in Columbia. Please join us on the 5th of July to support our troops. Maps and directions will be posted later in this thread.

I will consider it an honor to come and join you. My family and I just came home from a vacation in DC. My kids most enjoyable moment was debating a 'hippie' protester outside the White House. Even at 15 & 16 year's old they made her look bad. I made them use logic and be nice and she was blown away.

We look forward to seeing you there.

I don't think that protesting in uniform would be appropriate, show up as a citizen with an opinion.

Invite them to attend. My 10 year-old daughter has been to several "events" with me. She loves hanging out with dad, even if he is a bit nuts.

Wow what a great brave thing for you to do!

Now at least you have company. It sounds like you should have a good turnout on the 5th.

Good luck, and thank your husband for me for serving to protect this great Country!

Good FReeping on the 5th. Sounds like you are off to a very good start.

Try contacting your local American Legion Post, VFW and the College Republicans, even you local Republican party. They all have email lists to let their members know what is happening.

Get the word out and even if only a couple show up from each group, you'll have a crowd.

(Be sure to write a Report with pics.)

Hi flib - still in Columbia huh? Is the relocation still on?

Next week looks pretty busy for me but I will try to arrange it. No promises, but who knows?

The red star marks the corner of Gervais and Main where we will meet.
Here is a link to a hybrid satellite photo map.

Flib, hope that you get a great big crowd on Wednesday. I don't drive so getting to Columbia is hard. I'll be thinking of y'all.

PPM, can you get the rest of the group around Columbia to go?
