I cannot believe sparklers will land you jail. Unbelievable. I am glad I don't live in the People's Republic of Maryland.

We have a long list of legal fireworks in Pocatello. There is a short list of illegal fireworks that are sold at the adjacent indian reservation. The illegal stuff includes artillery shells, bottle rockets and roman candles. The kind of stuff that flies out of control and sets the wood shake shingles of a house on fire.

The local gang bangers have also discovered that a large enough bundle of "harmless" sparklers can be detonated in a metal trash can to produce a fair amount of shrapnel. We're really screwed once they embrace Islam.

In Mass. they send the state police up to New Hampshire to spy on any cars from Mass, that are in the fireworks parking lot and they stop

Same thing happens on the Illinois - Wisconsin border.

Have a happy 4th!

Sparklers have been outlawed in Arizona for years. But, with the state being a tinderbox, it's a little more understandable.

"The sparkler is not at all innocuous. It is very dangerous. It gets very hot, it can cause serious injury."

What's next?

"The steak knife is not at all innocuous. It is very dangerous. It's very sharp, it can cause serious injury."

There you go! We're celebrating the fighting for and winning of our freedom. And these mamby-pampy nannies want to castrate the whole experience.

Forget it.

How ironic that lighting a U.S. flag on fire is perfectly ok in Maryland but fireworks are not...

How ironic that some people there would erronously call lighting a flag on fire free speech but fireworks are not...

They are no different than the a-holes who think burning the U.S. flag is perfectly o.k...

12,000 fireworks were turned in to fire investigators.

What exactly is "a firwork"? I have a bundle of 5K Blckcats intended for this Tuesday. Is that considered 5000 "fireworks"?

People who get caught with fireworks even sparklers, could face a $1000 fine and 6 months in jail.

If I may :

"People who get caught with fire works

EVEN SPARKLERS

could face a $1000 fine

AND

6 MONTHS IN JAIL!!!!

OUT-FREAKIN-RAGEOUS! HOW EFN DARE THEY THREATEN TO JAIL AMERICANS OVER EFFING SPARKLERS!!

Fireworks bans have NOTHING to do with public safety. They are about something far more sinister. You are not allowed to celebrate America's freedom (or what's left of it), individually, with your own family. You will be marched to the government approved facility, and celebrate the governments way, or else.

I thought we had it bad, after listening to the continuous 10 second radio spots where our local police chief threatens the citizenry over fireworks- telling us that the helicopters will be flying, the streets will be patrolled, and encouraging neighbors to "turn in" neighbors who use them on the 4th.
(Great- Happy Freakin Independence(?) Day- Watch out for the helicopters and the Jack Booted Thugs on patrol for your sparklers- and don't forget to turn your neighbors in. This what The Revolution was fought for?! George Washington and the founders would be proud.-sarcasm.)

What's happening in Maryland is out right Communism. Efn B*astards! What the hell is wrong with the people putting up with this crap from their "elected" officials. They should light the torches, grab the pitchforks, and chase these fascists out of office, all the way to the state line.

Don't tell me its about "safety" its not. Would that the LEO's in my area spend as much effort, and money (helicopter's around $600/hr to operate-waste of taxpayer's money to chase people with sparklers), to catch all the drug dealers, gang bangers, robbers, rapists and every other sort of criminal- they could cut crime in half. (I suppose the police chief's announcement means the crime element will be given a Get-Out-Of-Jail-Free day- the LEO's will be too busy hunting citizens with fireworks to bother fighting crime?)

Fireworks bans are THE symbol of everything that is wrong with America today. They are done for the same reason the Socialists try to ban "Merry Christmas", and shut off the mike's of the class Valedictorian for "daring" to mention the name of Jesus in public.

This is VERY ugly. It needs to be STOPPED!

WAKE UP AMERICA!

I found and an old article HERE It's from the Times, (before it became the Jihad Journal). Just scroll the comments- they give the pertinent information re: Fireworks.

Long Island has the most fireworks of any place where they're illegal that I've ever seen.

Try Wichita. Anything over that shoots sparks over 6 ft is illegal. For some reason, so are regular firecrackers. Smoke Bombs, Sparklers, Snakes, Fountains, Crackling Balls are all acceptable. However, most everyone shoots the good stuff. They buy it from towns in the suburbs. I used to buy mine in Haysville (On Wichita's south-end.)

The show in Wichita is good every year and most everything being done is illegal. The cops and fire department act like they try to enforce it, but when caught myself the firemen that came by in the fire truck didn't confiscate my stuff. Just a friendly exchange, "You know your aren't supposed to be doing this, Have a good evening."

I moved to Haysville last year (for other reasons), and anything goes except bottle rockets (Statewide Ban.) People here are respectful, a suburb of Wichita of about 10,000. No one points these things at other's homes or children and most everyone quits around 11:30-Midnight. Not a single fire in this town last year and so far so good for this year. The Haysville City government makes GOOD money off the firework licenses and the Wichita residents.

I like to muse on the fact that English speaking people everywhere set off fireworks to commemorate acts of treason against the British Crown...those still subject to the Crown commemorate an unsuccessful one.

Actually the English have gotten over it. They view the United States for the most part as their greatest friend and ally.

Just right after 9-11, the Queen ordered the guards at Buckingham Palace to play 'The Star Spangled Banner' in place of 'God Save The Queen' when they did the Changing of the guard ceremony, daily. I am not sure for how long they did this, but it was the first and only time that any other song had been played in place of 'God Save The Queen.'

I am appreciative and admire the British for this.

Keep in mind there are 3 Marylands:

One is the Washington DC suburbs (PURPLE AND BLUE ON MAP)-they think of themselves as hoity-toity Washingtonians. This is liberal headquaters and the real "Peoples Republic". Big money, big government, nanny state.

One is Baltimore City(DARK GREEN /PINK)-drug and crime infested welfare capitol of the state-and some of its southwestern suburbs. (Columbia is a like an evil Home Owners Association that took over Berkley )

The rest of us- (YELLOW, LIGHT GREY, LIGHT GREEN, DARK GREY ), Western MD, North/Central, Eastern Shore, Extreme South, are pretty normal but have been gerrymandered to death.

Like this:

Doesn't happen nearly as often on the interstate highways, people going shopping cross-border often worry, but aside from the final weekend leading up to the holiday, they leave you alone. Heck, the best fireworks in my old neighborhood where the homes of cops.

Having just set off about 12 artillary mortars on my street in MD , I can ensure that the fireworks nannies have little effect. Guess what, it was parents with children who set them off not teenagers or the young men. I live in Maryland and sparklers and foutains are legal in Anne Arundel County. We interspersed the mortars with rockets . My neighbor had the double motors and I had the singles. But my rockets were better. Of course the rockets and mortars are not legal but we agree with Adams opinion that we should celebrate with lots of bangs and illuminations.

I've spent a fair amount of time in MD; long enough to have an Annapolis mailing address.

It was a great time and I really enjoyed my time there.

It seemed that there were several distinct and independent identities of the people there. Your demographic explanation helps me understand it a little better.

Just like in Illinois, it's the urban socialists that screw things up for the rest.
