US no safer now...
I don't doubt that for a moment, Mr. Clarke, because of the pro-terrorist liberal MSM (led by the Times), cut-and-run faction of the Democratic Party and anti-Bush types like yourself giving secrets, encouragement and aid to the enemy...
To: MikeA
So according to Clarke, we wouldn't have had to send troops into Afghanistan if Clinton had formulated and carried out plans to enlist the help of Pakistan, Uzbek and the Northern Alliance as he, Clarke, said in a March, 2004 interview?

I love the way Clarke spins his fairy tale. During his tenure Bin Laden put 18,000 terrorist through his training camps while the US military was tied up flying 30,000 flights a year over Iraq enforcing the No Fly Zone. Afghanistan wasn't even on the radar!

certain people are doing everything to place any and all obstacles in their way. I have said before on this forum, that I believe that the anti-american leftists are really praying for another attack, so that they can go into a frenzy of Bush-hating blame on the administration and hope that will bring the left back into power. To them, another few thousand american lives are worth it.

"I wished the right would hammer the left when they make this moronic claim."
If they were to and a terror attack took place soon after, it would the right who would look moronic. Better to silent and let the lack of civilian deaths speak for themselves.
To: LSUfan
Richard Clarke; "We are no more secure than we were five years ago." He's right. Now that the Taliban and Saddam are out of power, and thousands of terrorists are dead or in hiding... Bush has really gotten the left mad.
That's scarey.

The other side of that coin is that things could have gotten really bad if the US hadn't acted; probably not 'could have' but certainly would have.

"Clarke gained national attention two years ago, not only for the book titled "Against All Enemies," but also for his testimony before the 9/11 Commission investigating the worst terrorist attacks in U.S. history."Clarke was supposed to be the Democrats' political neutron bomb.
Despite one-million talk show appearances, the adulation and darling of print newsrooms, and promotions of his whining book, they would up as water off a duck's back.
Is the irrelevant Clarke about to release a sequel?
To: 50sDad
Clark is right for the wrong reasons. True, America is still essentially an open society and open societies are vulnerable to attacks from ambush.
The only way to be relatively safer would be to button everything down, go to ground, and end the free and open life we know..
But while we are no safer, we are fully alerted and better protected. Islam's brave masked warriors must be smarter and better organized than they are to successfully hit us again and get away with it.
I'd say that the Muslim's greatest weakness is their lack of advancement over the past 2000 years. Everything more modern than pottery has come from outside.
Their greatest strength is the Democrat party.

I believe it was Euripedes who said, "The best punishment for a liar is to never believe anything else he says."
It certainly applies to Clarke.
