WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President George W. Bush on Wednesday vowed to keep working for immigration legislation including a guest worker program, as Republicans held dueling hearings to build support for rival bills.
Pennsylvania Sen. Arlen Specter assembled employers and sympathetic politicians to testify in Philadelphia about the country's dependence on the estimated 11 to 12 million illegal immigrants in the United States.
Meanwhile, House Republican leaders convened a public hearing at a Border Patrol station in San Diego to highlight the need for stricter enforcement along the U.S. border with Mexico to prevent illegal immigrants entering the country.
Bush took a short trip from the White House to Alexandria, Virginia to weigh in on the debate, buying coffee at a Dunkin' Donuts with dollars borrowed from an aide. He told reporters the country needed a guest worker program.
"I know there needs to be a worker program that says you can come here on a temporary basis and work here legally for jobs Americans aren't doing," he said.

Ugh. We already have a 'guest worker' program. It's called a work visa - been around a long time. Hasn't stopped the illegals before - isn't going to stop them by changing the name.
They're not guests. Guests are invited. I want them EXTRACTED.

I would suggest that you write your local Representative and thank him/her for standing firm against the Senate bill, and also let them know that you support hearings to air the details of what it contains.
They are the ones that stopped this sham from going forward, and I am sure that they are under a lot of pressure to change their positions.
Let them KNOW that you are watching them!

nah in 2005 they hired 2200 new IRS enforcement officers to make sure YOU pay your taxes.

The North Koreans lobbed missile number 7, and our President was pushing his shamnesty agenda at a Dunkin Donuts surrounded by a handful of smiling immigrants who had realized "the American Dream" because they "worked hard" selling donuts.

I saw this this afternoon. I don't think the people with the uniforms on in the background even understood him. They just stood there with a stupid smile on their faces.

He is so out of touch it's not even funny anymore.
I want an amendment to the Constitution banning this phrase. It is deeply offensive coming from a man who is supposed to RESPECT and represent the legal citizens of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Clearly, he does not.
I demand solid verification of their documentation.

I'm absolutely opposed to amnesty. Amnesty says you're automatically a citizen. That would be a mistake, to grant amnesty. Amnesty would say to somebody, you know: All I've got to do is wait it out; all I've got to do is get here illegally myself and I'll become a citizen.
That would be bad policy.
Me too, after the borders are sealed so no more can sneak in. We've always had this problem, but it's gotten worse in leaps and bounds since Reagan offered amnesty to the illegals. He was a terrific President, but he sure messed up on that one.
