China Deploys Nuclear Submarines...Capable of Nuclear Counterstrike

Hong Kong's Xin-bao reported on July 7th that China has deployed next-generation nuclear submarines and is capable of second nuclear counterstrike.

German military publication 'International Navy' reported that China officially deployed recently-developed Type 093 and 094 nuclear submarines, and conducted training exercises. They are in combat-deployment now, according to the publication.

It said that Type 094, Tang-class, is the improved version of Xia-class nuclear submarine, with 10,000-ton displacement, and can carry 16 Julang-2 SLBM's which have the range of 10,000 km. Each Julang-2 can have three nuclear-warheads, which means that a single Type 094 submarine can strike 48 targets simultaneously.

Type 094 has fourth-generation nuclear reactor and is equipped with noise-suppression feature and precision sonar capability. It has superior stealth, mobility, and survivability, which is rated as comparable to Ohio-class submarine of U.S.

Type 093 is an attack submarine with 7,150 ton displacement , whose design is based on Han-class submarine.

If their deployment is successful, Chinese nuclear capability will expand from land-based nukes to second nuclear counterstrike, according to this publication.

People's Daily, Chinese official communist party paper, featured an article on its Internet site about the submarines on July 6th, which is a de-facto confirmation of their deployment.

Take your point'Old Mill'although there may be some anthropological reasons why the Chinese would not prosper in a different hemisphere.

Neutron bomb is the one thing the Chinese don't have... who knows.. if Hildabeest is elected in '08 that particular technology might be provided to the Chinese... via generous donations of course.. with some company "accidentally" providing the technology again...

Albright said that the NK was building nukes when Bush 1 was pres, then stopped as soon as Clinton was elected..then started again when GWB was elected... The libRats really take that "LIE BIG" tenet from the Communist Party Handbook to heart, don't they?

Hopefully, with the MSM not totally in charge of news dissemination these day and the information highway of the Internet, more people will see through them -

In the meantime, Halfbright should go back to cleaning hotel rooms

Sorry I missed the sarcasm...thanks for explaining. The whole business is just serious business to me. I believe Red China to be as great a potential threat to world peace and stability as were the Nazis and Tojo combined, perhaps more so.

"The Chinese first had missles tipped with nuclear warheads aimed at US cities in the Reagan Administration"

One small thing....they didnt WORK...

At least not until Clinton signed a presidential waiver for Loral aerospace to go over and fix their guidence systems...

Pop Loral aerospace into your browser and follow the money...

Yeah they had nukes....maybe one in ten might have made it into space...

I find it interesting to see that lots of folks here assume that the Chinese subs just can't even be compared to the Ohios. The fact is that the Ohios were designed in the late 70s,modernised no doubt. One has to take into account the fact China has developed or acquired quieting tech of near equal standards.

About not detecting the Ohios, well if I were a Russian sub driver who managed to catch one, would I yell about it at the top of my voice???Not if it's the main seaborne US deterrent!!

& how sure are you that China's nukes didn't work till Clinton came along??????One of the reasons why Nixon decided to engage the PRC was their nukes & ability to deliver them.About not getting them into space, well China had been popping SLVs up there since the 70s.

All accounts, both private and military rate the new 93s at probably a Victor III level, and 94s at a level before the Ohios. I personally know something of the Ohio class and they are extremely quiet and have had several upgrades since their design.

Not only are they going to be hard to find, they are protected, and are quiet capable of protecting themselves if necessary.

While I have respect for, and do not discount or make light of the threat the ChiComms pose, or their capabilities (I believe they are the graves threat to wrolkd peace, stability and security since World War II), I also am quite comfortable in the knowledge that on a platform vs. platform basis, they are still quite a ways behind the USN in this area.

Having said that, there are several potentials for asymetric warfare and other technological developments that could arise that would tend to negate our lead. We must be prepared for all such contingencies.

I think you're messing something up. the ICBMs that China has in the 1980's was the DF-5, not the same design as the ones that Loral was allegedly helping them with (which was for commercial satellite launches). You can argue that it gave them better designs for their future ICBM's but not those that are already deployed.
