NYC Protest of the Times: After-Action Report
July 11, 2006 | firebrand

Posted on 07/11/2006 11:22:29 AM PDT by firebrand

The first to arrive were a troop of Protest Warriors from New Jersey, who brought lots of flags and signs and stayed till the end, chanting and cheering.

Soon the Caucus for America pulled up in a pickup truck, which would become our stage. The NYPD had been saving a space for us with a big truck.

As the police barricades went up, we tied our signs and flags to them. When I saw that we had 30 or more people at a quarter to five, I knew it was going to be a success, since most people were coming after work. I would say we had 300 all together, counting all the people coming and going at different times; probably a peak of 200 at any one time.

List of speakers:

firebrand (introduced Raquel and Ryan Mauro)
Raquel Walker, of Free Republic, and independent Young Republican Club, and other organizations (led Pledge of Allegiance)
Rabbi Aryeh Spero, talk-show host and head of Caucus for America, who kept the rally rolling, along with:
Beth Gilinsky, of Action Alliance, who told the Times whatfor in a hundred different ways
Niger Innis, CORE
Roy Innis, CORE
Barry Farber, the talk-radio legend
Ryan Mauro, a geopolitical analyst and intelligence expert, who wrote Death to America
Richard Poe, an editor of Frontpagemag.com
Debra Burlingame, whose brother, Charles "Chic" Burlingame, was the pilot of the plane that crashed into the Pentagon minutes after the twin towers of the World Trade Centre were struck. She has led protests against the unsavory organizations that were at one time in charge of the WTC Memorial and museum.
Rafique Iscandar, president of the American Coptic Union, an Egyptian Christian leader
Herb London, president of the Hudson Institute

Costumed entertainers:

"osama 1"
"osama 2"
prisoner (wore prison outfit with a Bill Keller mask in front of his face and a sign that said "Goodbye, 43rd Street. Hello, Cell Block 43")
Boris Badinov, fresh from the DC rally, who held a sign saying "Where's My Pulitzer?"

Seen leaving the building: Carl Bernstein and Paul Krugman

Some memorable signs:

CODE FINK
Department of Homeland Endangerment/Across the street at 229 West 43rd St.
SECURITY THEFT!
The People v. The New York Times
No Blood for Pulitzers!
America the Betrayed
"I HAVE BUT ONE NEWSPAPER TO GIVE TO THE ENEMY."--New York Times

Freepers in attendance (add your name to the thread if you were there but not mentioned):

actionalliance
AliVeritas
cirque23
Clemenza
Coleus
Doctor Raoul
ELS
firebrand
God luvs America
Incorribible
palz
Personal Responsibility
RaceBannon
Raquel
RedRover
Tabi Katz
TDCAnalyst
toldyou (who has some great freeper pictures, coming later)
Yehudah

After the rally, we repaired to O'Lunney's, on 45th Street, and were delighted to see our own rally appear on the TV screen on Hannity's show, followed by Roy Innis, discussing the rally.

Many heartfelt thanks to all who came. I was delighted to see some folks who don't usually go to rallies, plus of course the tireless yellers and screamers who admirably kept themselves from going across the street to strangle "Paul McCartney" and the woman with the whistle.

We were written up in this morning's Sun and Post, appear on a few blogs (as has been pointed out on other threads), and were mentioned on WOR Radio at 4 and 5 yesterday. Add any other publicity that you have seen to this thread, if you would.

May this be the beginning of the End of Times!

Perfect summation there. I was glad to be part of it. I was most impressed with the Rabbi. He REALLY let them have it! His words thundered down on the Times and shook the building from its foundation.

Great job. I saw and heard the rabbi yesterday on Fox News - I think it was on Brit Hume's show, but may have been Cavuto. Keep up the good work, it's important.

Thank you for the correction.

Yehudah = Yehuda
Palz = Paltz
Incorribible = Incorrigible

At least I think these are correct since they went through.

Thanks again to ALL who attended!

Firebrand, you did an amazing job! It felt so great to break into the New York liberal echo chamber with shouts of "TRAITORS!" (Though my favorite chant was yelling "GARBAGE!" while pointing at the Times building! Very cathartic.)

You guys have to plan to come to the party afterwards next time. We hung around for three more hours.

Thanks to Gerard for picking up all the NYTimeses that we used for trampling and that ended up in pieces all over the sidewalk.

No...no...no!!!! You did such an outstanding job and I have enjoyed following your planning, execution and AAR of this wonderful event.

I was trying to ping all that were there and those 3 wouldn't take. I know Paltz so that one was easy. It is difficult to attend these things and keep track everyone in order to do the AAR.

You did an amazing job! Thank you again.

I was very sorry to miss the post-event gathering. Next time!

By the way, it was great the way the Protest Warrior guys (in their D-Day t-shirts) hung out across the street. It looked like Carl Bernstein spoke to them for awhile. Wonder what went on? Your description of Paul McCartney cracked me up. And what was up with his deranged Palestinian-looking boy-toy? It was hilarious that he still waved his "racist" sign when the guys from CORE spoke!

Okay folks, here are some NICE photos I took at the rally of one of our great leaders, the fearless FIREBRAND. Again, here are those photos...............NOT!

She'd probably kill me if I did that. You know how women are about photos. But she CAN'T stop me from saying how great she looked when she addressed the crowd! So take that FIREBRAND!.

So add me to the list of rally attendees, NEWYORKCITYGOPMAN.

Nice work to all who were involved in the planning of this very imporant gathering. As I am only an occasional FREEPER, thanks to all of you.

One guy who looked like someone from Communists for Kerry turned out not to be. He was a walk-in. He was leaving work at the Hard Rock Cafe and saw us and remembered reading about us somewhere on the Net. He knew about FR and Commies for Kerry too.

He just stood there drinking it all in, so glad to see some conservatives. LOL. Until I started talking to him and roped him into wearing the prison suit. He was tall and thin, so it fit him perfectly. The legs didn't even have to be rolled up. A great guy!

I find it hard to believe that O'Reilly can't see the truth about them (or maybe he simply hasn't figured out how to say it yet).

1. The people at the New York Times want Socialism. They want it so badly that there is no good that a non-Socialist like GWB can do. Even if they know some his policies to be beneficial, their priorities demand that they portray it otherwise. They must destroy him and anyone like him to get a Socialist elected. They can't openly try to sell Socialism, so the only thing they can do is attack non-Socialists and hope a Socialist can win by default.

2. Americans elected a non-Socialist twice and they hate us for it. Why should they care what happens to America? We elected a (gasp) Evangelical to the White House, one who has eroded just about everything Clinton has done and put in two SCOTUS justices to boot. At least half of us are gullible in their opinion, and the other half cannot be saved (read: if a terrorist killed us, they would toast the event with a double latte).

Position #2 is probably held by a minority at the Times, but you can bet your bottom dollar that position #1 is held by man+dog there.

Thanks for the ping and congratulations on a successful freep of the New York Times (treasonous grey lady!). You had a tremendous group of speakers and wonderful signs -- it's so sad that the "Newspaper of Record" has become so determined to undermine America and give aid and comfort to our enemies.

A big THANK YOU to all who attended the protest on Monday!
