The Vietnamese communists did not fight the war the United States had trained for, nor did the Chechens and Afghans fight the war the Russians prepared for.

Israel is showing the world today that the Islamists are stunned and saddened when we do not fight the U.N.-effiminzed battles that they have prepared for.

Arabs, some 500 million, including Saudi Arabia, the Emirates, from Morocco on the Atlantic to Iraq, have a combined GDP of less than Spain.

Two words: Henry Ford.

The triumph of the West lay in mass production and technology. A farmer kept on a small plot of land with hand tools spends all his time trying to feed his family the bare minimum to survive. A farmer with power tools on a larger plot makes enought to feed others, and can buy stuff to ease his own lifestyle. They whine and spout off about the wonderful power of Arab culture, but they don't innovate, improve, remake or upgrade. Americans are always looking for the "next big thing" and believe everything can be made better. Arabs are always looking to the past, and believe everything was better in the old days when Arabs were really powerful.

No question that sexual frustration plays a big factor in these angry young men. Their religion does EVERYTHING to deny them their natural urges, including forbidding them to even LOOK at a woman.

A big reason -- perhaps the biggest -- they hate us so much.

Then lay on top of all of that, the fact that so many Arab states got massive military help from the Soviet Union during the Cold War, and that included the construction of those typically Soviet heavily-centralized command-and-control systems.

The ultimate expression of that was over the Bekaa Valley when the Israeli and Syrian air forces clashed. The IAF didn't just have the best American hardware, it had American-style training that emphasized flexibility and initiative. The Syrians were using Soviet-style ground-based control that robbed their pilots of all their ability to act independently. Combine that with the Israeli superiority in aircraft and pilot skill, and you ended up with the most one-sided aerial battle since the Marianas Turkey Shoot.

Fascinating article, thanks for posting it! It explains a lot about how the "fourth-biggest army in the world" (Iraq) could crumble like a stale cookie in front of us twice in thirteen years.

After reading the article, I somehow think that won't be very significant. With so much inherent paranoia, nobody within the system will stand for anyone else (in the same system) having control of such power.

Indeed. Their culture, their religion and their form of government all stifle individual thought and action. They don't think for themselves. You can't have an innovative society or military without being able to THINK!

Hey Uncledave, that was a great read, thanks!

OK, so their culture causes / affects their problems. And Islam is a large part of their culture, so can we draw a conclusion here?

I'm sure Israel uses all this information well to their own advantage.

Cowards who brainwash their young into insane sexual suicide murders are not looked on favorably by God.

"They share the Nazi's biggest weakness. Their culture's requirement of total obedience means that they are incredibly slow at reacting to unforeseen circumstances (and in warfare, nothing goes as planned), because they have to wait for their orders before responding. They are not allowed to use initiative, intuition, or creativity, because it is not allowed in their daily lives. Once again, Freedom proves to be an incredibly powerful tool!"

My reading of WWII contradicts yours, the Germans were superior soldiers, to everyone they met, because of their initiative, intuition, and creativity.

"First, the well-known lack of trust among Arabs for anyone outside their own family adversely affects offensive operations."

Thanks for posting the excellent article.

The idea of trust in your fellow man once he is a part of your culture, seems to be a defining difference between western civ. and lesser cultures.

Yeah. I was mostly spewing conventional wisdom. There are some anecdotal stories to back up that viewpoint, but it is difficult to adhere religiously to that view while noting that a nation of only 60 million came thiiiiiis close to defeating the entire western world (WHILE carrying Italy on their back, AND being allied with an utterly unresponsive Emperor). I should retract that opening phrase slighting the German soldiers... but I sincerely believe that the Arabs are well-described that way, and the article seems to back me up on that.

Good read. For the most part, all foreign officers I ever met from 54-75 came from wealth. There will always be hatred and distrust in any corrupt military, which does not promote based on merit. I have seen few professional NCO's outside the US.

Without a professional NCO Corps, no Army and no officer will ever succeed. Training was always highly valued by the US Army. When funds are cut good men die.

The US Army has had it's rehearsed exercises for the brass and dignitaries, too.
