Israel asks to buy US jet fuel for military aircraft
AFP ^ | July 14, 2006

Posted on 07/14/2006 3:21:42 PM PDT by West Coast Conservative

The Pentagon notified Congress of an Israeli request to purchase up to 210 million dollars in JP-8 aviation jet fuel for its military aircraft.

"The jet fuel will be consumed while the aircraft is in use to keep peace and security in the region," the Pentagon's Defense Security and Cooperation Agency said.

The notice to Congress came two days after Israeli fighter jets attacked targets in Lebanon, including the international airport in Beirut, following the capture of two Israeli soldiers by Hezbollah guerrillas.

The Pentagon said the sale would help "improve the security of a friendly country which has been, and continues to be, an important force for stability and economic progress in the Middle East."

The US Congress has 30 days to act to block the sale; otherwise, it is automatically approved.

I have a feeling that aviation fuel could get extremely tight in the near future. For our own military too. Particularly if the Straits of Hormuz becomes a dead-end for Mideast oil shipments...

No. Frankly, I think this is what finally moved W to push for alternative fuels...he realized that we had allowed ourselves to get into a real dependancy pickle that could seriously endanger our military capacity not just our lifestyle.

The Iranians are tracking our slow plodding response to this however, and are likely pushing for exploiting our vulnerability before we can switch to cars and trucks running on E-85 and planes which fly with hydrogen...

Yep, give it to em for free.

And deliver it via tanker planes over the center of Iraq.
It will be really handy for them :-)

I sort of suspect that we have a quick solution for this problem. We do explosives better than anyone and it seems to me that this would have been figured out years ago.

No one in Congress will try to block such a sale. Whatever Israel wants, Israel gets.

No, frankly I think the old Maoist condemnation of the West...that we are Paper Tigers... does apply to Bush...

He has determined to not get into any more wars come hell or high water. He wants out.

Hopefully, we will not get to see your opinion flushed down the crapper.

Give it to them for free.

We essentially do, anyway. We give them billions and they spend it on what they need. Apparently, it's jet fuel.

And it's not like the U.S. government is jet fuel producer. They're a customer, too.

I wish you would take a few months off from being such a retard.

All he has done is liberated two countries.

I'm frankly tired of your incessant bitching.

Actually, I think the Staits should be blocked -- and the Iranian Oil fields "shut down"...

Who would hurt the most or last longer?
Iran and their Arab neighbors, without ANY income....from ANY source sufficient to sustain basic requirements, or the Western World for a few months?

Sooner or later, the Islamanazis will threaten the shutoff of oil.... Why delay the inevitable?
It is best we address while strong, rather than wait until the enemy is stronger and perhaps nuclear capable.
