New York Advisory Panel Rules It OK for Judges to Pack a Pistol Beneath Robes While on Bench
NEW YORK Jul 15, 2006 (AP)— It's one way to assure order in the court.
The New York state Advisory Committee on Judicial Ethics has ruled that it is permissible for judges to pack a pistol beneath their robes while on the bench.
"From an ethical standpoint, there is no prohibition … barring you from carrying a firearm while performing your duties on the bench," the committee said in a decision published in this week's New York Law Journal.
Judges would have to comply with existing laws to bring a gun into court. . . .

"This committee believes that keeping your firearm concealed and safeguarded on your person while you are on the bench is advisable," the ruling said. I'd have the gun close to my gun hand in open view.

Great, the tyrants in black robes can be packing heat while they take away rights of others.

Judge: 'Mr. Jones, I find you guilty of carrying a weapon without a permit. That'll be $1,000.00 fine and two weeks in jail! '
Mr. Jones: 'But Judge!! New York won't issue permits to us common folks!'
Judge: 'Huh? Oh! Shuddup and quit breathing my air.'
Mr. Jones: 'So tell me, Judge. How come you're wearing a six-shooter?'
Judge: 'Well, I'm a Judge, don'tcha know. I need protection against those crazies who get mad when I fine them for carrying a gun.'
Mr. Jones: 'That figures. So then why not just issue permits and you won't have to worry about that?'
Judge: 'Can't do that. I need the money from the fines to make the payments on my armored limo.'
Mr. Jones: 'But I need to protect myself too, Judge!
Judge: '^That's why the fines are so high. Half of what I take in pays for our special Call 9-1-1 service.'
Mr. Jones: 'You're kidding, right?
Judge: 'Nope! Hey, pick up one of those cards on the way out. It's my cousin, Vinnie's phone number. Discount price on funerals.'

It's one way to assure order in the courtI guess it's too much of a stretch from there to understanding one can assure order on the street by letting responsible, law abiding little people carry.
