9 killed in rocket attack on Haifa

GAMLA: News and Views from Israel

Attack on north resumes: Rockets fired by Hizbullah terrorists from Lebanon land in Haifa; police say nine killed, dozens injured in strike. Israel TV reports of casualties in city. Nahariya, Kiryat Bialik also targeted; additional Katyushas apparently strike Akko area

A siren was heard across Haifa Sunday after a Katyusha rocket fell in the area. Security forces said at least ten Katyusha rockets fell on the Haifa area.

Police said that nine people have been killed and dozens have been injured.

Police say nine people have been killed at the train depot. The rescue of the injured is being delayed after many people abandoned their vehicles due to rockets, leaving them on the road to the Rambam hospital.

The Katyusha barrage also struck Naharia, Kiryat Bialik (check post), Akko, and Rosh Hanikra.

The simultaneous attack took place shortly after 9 a.m. in the morning. Phone networks in the area have been affected.

Ofir from Haifa said: "I see the train depot downtown, on the train tracks. There were four hits and smoke is rising. Hizbullah apparently aimed for the oil refineries."

Karen from Haifa said: "We heard a rocket explode in the harbor area and then in the port."

Over 700 rockets have been fired since the beginning of fighting on the northern border, and the IDF does not rule out that the rockets may reach further south than Haifa. "Areas south of Haifa will receive an advanced warning in the form of a siren," Home Front Commander Yitzhak Gershon said.

Israel would have finished the job in Lebanon in 1982 if Reagan hadn't stopped Sharon. It is time to destroy Hizbollah and take the fight directly to Damascus for the first time.

If not for the Soviet Union and the UN, it could have been finished in 1973, when Israel was less than 50 miles from Damascus.

"The Islamic Resistance warns the Zionist of committing any new folly because it (Hizbullah) deliberately avoided the petrochemical installations," said the statement. "But next time, it (Hizbullah) will not spare anything in Haifa and its surroundings."

The proper response to this is the following announcement:

"To the civilians of lebanon and gaza. There are terrorists in your midst who have declared war on the State of Israel. You have 6 hours to evacuate the areas surrounding your homes, because incoming rockets are being launched from those areas. We are now in a defacto state of war with these terrorists, who are using you as "shields." You've had the chance to expell them from your neighborhoods over the years, but have done nothing. We regret to inform you that since rockets are being launched from the your neighborhoods, they are now legitimate targets. You are urged to evacuate, since these combatants refuse to wear uniforms that distinguish them from inncocent civilians, anyone seen will be assumed to be an enemy combatant.

Again, you have 6 hours to evacuate."

Then, 6 hours later, begin carpet bombing everything.

The real question is, "What IS in hizballah's arsenal?"

I hope that Israeli and US intel are keeping a very close eye on the Bekka Valley: Chemical weapons... I think that a chemical strike on any Israeli city will result in nuclear strikes on Teharan and Damascus.

The United States should reconsider its policies and correct its wrong attitude of supporting the Zionist regime.”

Here's the proper attitude towards Iran, Syria, Hamas, Hezbollah, and Fatah too.

where is the media crying about how they (hamas) are killing innocent cvilians?

Don't expect the media to defend Israel.

The Israelis elected Olmert and Peretz to do that, which was a mistake.

Hopefully the Israelis now realize that and will force themselves to really fight and defend their nation.

Thanks for remembering that promise/boast of the Bent One. I believe he said something like: "If Israel is attacked, I will pick up a rifle and go fight for her."

We're waiting, Slick.

al-Manar TV's website has 'disappeared'
The manartv.com.lb domain has had its IP address taken away, and the almanar.com.lb domain is unresponsive. Unknown is whether this is the result of action on the part of the datacenter (in Mumbai, India) or the result of an attack by elements supportive of Israel.

The TV station itself is currently still operational from a bunker in Beirut.

Nice picture, El Gato, but totally wrong way to deal with the problem. Even after the World War 2, it was a big question if the air bombing or something else that had put Germany to her knees.

The effectiveness of air force in the type of conflict which is going on in the Middle East is very low. Colin Powell's concept of "war without casualties" (for the attacking side) was tried during the assault on Yugoslavia, when a sovereign country was bombed from 20,000 feet... and it worked badly even there.

Unfortunately, it won't be possible to decontaminate Gaza and Lebanon of cockroaches without doing the dirty hand-to-hand work. As it is being done (with too much self-restrain) in Iraq. The so called international community is already whining about "unproportional response"... they'll go berserk when (if?) the IDF begins the real job.
