We've been through that point too many times to count. Allen was a very effective Governor of Virginia. In Virginia, governors cannot succeed themselves.
Frankly, I'm glad he beat Chuck Robb for the Senate seat. At least now we have one real conservative. As opposed to a RINO and dem when Robb had that seat.

It's also worth noting that Allen fits the profile that Americans always seem to prefer in their presidents -- even though these are entirely superficial attributes. He's got a short, simple name, a WASP pedigree, and speaks with a mild Southern drawl.

Who else we got?
Tancredo kicked his ass in the FR poll but, other than the illegal immigration issues, I don't know dick about Tom.

OK, but if you fans of his are thinking he's gonna just the nomination because you all say so, you're in for a shock.

FR polls (and in fact the opinions expressed on these threads) are fun but they don't mean a thing. If they did Alan Keyes would have been the GOP nominee the last two elections.

Hope he runs. His bio and bona-fides look great. A solid conservative...as far as I can tell.

I wish I had one. I have NO candidate at this point. Who the heck am I gonna vote for, McCain? He's clearly unbalanced. Rudy? I like him on terror and that's it. Romney? Nice guy, but weak. If I were to vote today, in all honesty, I'd just pull the lever for whichever the R nominee was.
An uninspiring lot to say the least. I can't even think of someone who's not considering running who I'd like to run. That's sad!

You can always write in Ronald Reagan and feel good about when you leave the poll. :o)

LOL!
I wouldn't want to risk anyone counting that for the Ron Reagan who's still alive.

No debate from me. If he runs, he's our man (actually he's our man whether he runs or not....sooner or later...he is going to have to run).

Lizza also resurrected the stories about Allen hanging a Confederate battle flag in his home and a noose in his law office. He reported that Allen, like many Virginians, opposed placing Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Lee-Jackson Day. He joined a "Richmond social club with a well-known history of discrimination" -- which could describe many Southern organizations, whether or not they discriminate today. In light of Allen's suburban childhood, Lizza finds it "truly improbable that someone with his upbringing ever acquired such backwoods tastes." Improbable, he implies, unless Allen is genuinely racist.I'm surprised that American Spectator didn't note that Senator George Allens mother was a Nazi Political Prisoner at one time.
Anyone interested in a source on that, note that his sister wrote a book about their dad that talks about it.

I jumped off the Allen bandwagon after I saw him on TV with Barbara Boxer. He did not react the way I would have wanted him to, letting her get away with lying and all. (But perhaps it was his Southern Gentlemanliness.) So far he is first on my card.
P.S. I believed in 2000 that GW was an imbecile and did not vote for him. Then in 2004, I did. I may not agree with everything he stands for, but no one hear can say he hasn't done (or tried to do) everything he said he would.

No one said it was going to be a cake walk.
I am quite sure the Dems are going to try and bloody him up in his Senate reelection race. The harder they try to do that, the more I'll know that they consider him a real threat in '08.
All I can say is, of the potential candidates that we know about now, he's the best one IMHO. I agree with you on Rudy and McCain. Allen was one of the best governors we've had in years.

The libs will have confederate flags splashed everywhere if Allen is nominated. Anything that is opposed to their pc totalitarian fanaticism will be met with shrill hysteria by the wingnuts in the press. They will do everything they can to put Allen on the defensive about that stuff.
And McCainiac and Rudy the Lib will be the first to denounce the guy.
