Conservatives only on this thread. Thanks. Moderates are being paged to the pro-Guiliani threads.

(yawn) Don't you mean "Robots only on this thread"?

Anyway, let's hope some people who can read show up:

post 51: " Rudy? I like him on terror and that's it."

That "If you don't march in lockstep behind the annointed one without even knowing anything about him you're a RINO" line is so lame. Real conservatives don't just take the word of someone on an anonymous message board and say "Uh, OK!"

Sorry if daring to ask "Why?" so offends you, widdle wobots. Where I come from, we think, don't just take orders. Scary, but you should try it sometime.

No one said it was going to be a cake walk.

Never said I expected that. But what's interesting is that no one can give me a reason they support him on this thread othetr than "Because."

I'd like to merge Allen's demeanor with Newt's intellect. Both of them lack what the other seems to have in abundance.

ROTFL!! Based on your comment, I'd put Allen's intellect up against yours any day... with half his brain tied behind his back, just to make it fair. (Hat tip to Rush)

Bump. I wanna read this. But why can't we call him The Virginian? Bout time we had another Virginian in there, they've done us proud.

I can't even think of someone who's not considering running who I'd like to run.

Me, either. But there is one that I'd like to find out more about ...

General Tommy Franks.

Has the same affability factor as Allen, Bush, etc. Comes across very well in interviews ... I still remember the liberal Mark Shields being wowed with him a couple years ago.

Great bio ... and who better to run the war on terror?

Don't know his positions on domestic issues, though ... or whether he has any interest at all in running.

Will Allen seem too Virginian, or just American enough for the White House?

Wow, that's a really powerful point. Virginia has never had any presidents. < / sarcasm >

One of Allen's biggest assets in a presidential election is that he comes from a state that has been getting increasingly "blue" in recent decades as it has gotten more urbanized and has attracted more immigrants.

Then why did Dubya improve his margin from '00 to '04? Probably because that's a common misperception.

Now THAT's an intriguing pick. Talk about a no-BS guy.

More of a SOD type, though--doesn't seem to want to be president. But a good pick on your part.

Gun rights. I see no mention of gun rights.

Rudy? I like him on terror and that's it.

Sweet. That's something we can agree on. You, Guiliani and I are all against terror. Mea culpa. Plus, he meets the only other criteria moderates have: Democrats might vote for him; he's "electable".

George Allen is the primary sponsor of the bill that would mandate reciprocity for concealed carry states.

You're in such a rush to be a wiseass and toss the "moderate" label you didn't even notice I was writing him off because that's the ONLY thing I agree with him on. It's like saying I agree with him that the sun rises in the east.

You folks are curiously a lot more eager to call people "moderate" in an effort to establish your conservative cred than you are to explain what's so great about Allen...which answers my question better than you know.

I'll keep looking. If his fans are any indicatino, he's all hot air.

"what's so great about Allen"

Forced a Democrat legislature to cut state taxes and payroll, end parole, require must-issue gun permiting... and then ended up by leading the Republicans into taking over both Houses from the Dems.

Lots more things, he's good. We Virginians will have to make up a list after the re-election.

Thank you for being a breath of fresh air on this thread and having some actual facts to put forth instead of what the others have been spouting to cover up their lack of knowledge about the man. Seems they've been saying he's the candidate without knowing a single thing about his record.

I like the taxes and gun permitting points, and obviously taking over the state houses.

Please do post any info you have when it's handy. I'd appreciate it, and some of those spouting "moderate!" instead of facts obviously need some brushing up, too.

Keep looking, but don't write him off. It's way too early. There may be developments that increase (or decrease) his viability as a presidential candidate. Check back later.

I'll get around to a "good points for Allen" list one day if one of the more knowledgeable Virginians doesn't.Frankly all this sniping and fighting about a 2008 presidential contender seems very silly to me before the 2006 elections have even been held.
Every day there's a "look into my eyes... you must nominate Rudolph Giuliani" hypno-thread LOL!

Allen's a good one, more of a "libertarian conservative" than a "social conservative" but a little better than George Bush on both. Keep him in mind. I'm sure other good candidates will show up too. Heck Rudi might convincingly repudiate his liberal past over the next year, McCain's psychiatrist might find a cure...

How would we could we be sure it wasn't just a TEMPORARY remission?
