A burglar breaking into a home in the 1700 block of Fulton Street this morning was shot to death by the occupant of the home, Aurora police said.
the prowler pulled an air conditioner from its slot in a window and climbed into the modest, one-story bungalow about 8:25 a.m.
Friel said the occupant of the home shot the burglar with a 12-guage shotgun and then called 911 to report it...
Friel said there had been other break-ins at the home, which has boarded-up windows in back.
He said it will be up to the Adams County district attorney to rule whether the shooting falls under Colorado's Make My Day law, which allows people to use force to protect their homes from intruders.

shot the burglar with a 12-guage shotgun and then called 911 I'm guessing one of his next calls will be to a carpet cleaning service.

We need to keep pounding on that ... turn the red and yellow states blue, and start turning the blue states green.

Depends how far in the perp got. Pulling an air conditioner out of a window would make a fair amount of noise; it's a small house, so the resident couldn't have been very far from the window; perp would have needed a little time to climb in after removing the air conditioner; resident probably kept his shotgun handy due to the previous break-ins. Hopefully he got the perp while the perp was still in the window-frame, with the blast pushing the perp back out, and leaving the mess out in the backyard.

That's what you get for messing with the guys AC. Another felon put out of business.

He said it will be up to the Adams County district attorney to rule whether the shooting falls under Colorado's Make My Day law, which allows people to use force to protect their homes from intruders. No question in my mind, the intruder got justice. The home owner should not be bothered further by the state.

They should give the homeowner an award.
He saved the state an expensive trial, jail time, legal fees...
The homeowner should get a free AC for his efforts.

"Friel said the occupant of the home shot the burglar with a 12-guage shotgun" If it was a pump action I can imagine the perps last words..."oh sh*t."
