Iraqi civilian deaths average 100 per day

BAGHDAD, IRAQ - An average of more than 100 civilians per day were killed in Iraq last month, the United Nations reported on Tuesday, registering what appears to be the highest official monthly tally of violent deaths since the fall of Baghdad.

The death toll, drawn from Iraqi government agencies, was the most precise measurement of civilian deaths provided by any government organization since the invasion and represented a substantial increase over the figures in daily media reports.

In keeping with the numbers cited in the report, a suicide car bomber killed at least 53 people and wounded at least 105 in the holy Shiite city of Kufa on Tuesday after he lured a throng of day laborers to his van with the offer of work.

I guess we are used to hearing this, but this is worse than the numbers reported in Israel.

A hundred a day are probably enough, although I would probably counsel more.

Americans risked their lives to help these people from hardships... built them new schools and fine water supply, electricity, financial aid (huge one) and all for free...
Yet they're killing each other... This one's not Bush's fault anymore!

Wise counsel, indeed.

I dunno... I read about a bomb exploded in a market place, killing 30 people, now and then. Or the ones on police recruitment center, killing 8. But 100 per day?

100 per day? 365,000 per year? More than Hussein?

I don't think so.

More killed than all GI's in WW2 Pollleeasee!

More B.S.

Just for reference, 108 people are shot dead, on average, each night in Brazil.

That's not "killed in auto accidents" as the Iraq morgue count above would have you think. That's not "stabbed by knife" attacks. That's not "beaten with baseball bat" deaths.

That's just the people shot dead each night in the slums of Rio (mostly).

You know, that beachfront "vacation paradise" Rio, Brazil.

Which is to say, peacetime Brazil sees 10% more shooting deaths each night than all forms of violence combined in "wartime" Iraq.

If they had 30,000 killed in one month they would need
bulldozers to dig mass graves.

Where are they?

Total irresponsible reporting by some NYU grad sitting in Manhattan eating tofu.

"In its report, the United Nations said 14,338 civilians had died violently in Iraq in the first six months of the year."

Hey, it wasn't just your math. I'm quoting the Chronicle/TraitorTimes article above which lists a 6 month total.

That 6 month total averages 78.5 people killed per day (they lead off with the more dramatic "more than 100" for just June, of course).

But wait...once you dig into their article you learn that even the pro-Al Qaeda Times admits that those figures INCLUDE THE INSURGENTS THAT WE ARE KILLING IN IRAQ!

For a comparison, 1000 a day would be correct if this were happening in the US. I believe it's about a 10:1 ratio in population.
