Minutemen not watching over funds (Simcox Questioned Over Funds)
Washington Times. ^ | July 19, 2006 | Jerry Seper

Posted on 07/19/2006 7:30:46 PM PDT by Anti-Bubba182

A growing number of Minuteman Civil Defense Corps leaders and volunteers are questioning the whereabouts of hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions, of dollars in donations collected in the past 15 months, challenging the organization's leadership over financial accountability.

Many of the group's most active members say they have no idea how much money has been collected as part of its effort to stop illegal entry -- primarily along the U.S.-Mexico border, what it has been spent on or why it has been funneled through a Virginia-based charity headed by conservative Alan Keyes.

Several of the group's top lieutenants have either quit or are threatening to do so, saying requests to Minuteman President Chris Simcox for a financial accounting have been ignored....."

"..... The Minuteman organization has not made any financial statements or fundraising records public since its April 2005 creation. It also has sought and received extensions of its federal reporting requirements and has not given the Minuteman leadership, its volunteers or donors any official accounting. A financial statement promised to The Times by Mr. Simcox for May was never delivered....."

he said, blaming the concern about his leadership and accountability on open borders and anti-rule of law lobbyists, racists and "those who were terminated from MCDC for violating our code of conduct."

He's now calling his former (Gary Cole) national director of operations, a racist ????

If Simcox is finding all the racists in high positions in his
organization, why was he charging fifty bucks a head for a Screening Fee? Doesn't appear to have worked?

You are not everywhere. But when you make unsubstantiated charges on a borders thread, they get copied to other sites like it or not. Anyone can read the posts that has internet access and a web browser by doing searches.

Thanks for aiding border security opponents.

In the end, you had better start investigating all the front page links that Jim has up; you might find similar circumstances on them. RenewUS is still on the front page.

You are a hypocrite of the first degree.

This is starting to sound like patriotism for fun and profit. I guess that there are those that believe and those that take money from the believers.

And you are crazier than an outhouse Rat!

Do you really think anyone at FR has the power to fix the Washington Times, or that their reporters won't check on their own?

Man, your tinfoil is on too tight!

One former Minuteman volunteer said the fence "wouldn't stop a tricycle."

The fence is, after all, why all this money is purportedly being collected, and a scrawny steer could knock it down.

Of course, in another FOUR MONTHS, Simcox's hand-picked accountant will deliver his $50,000 audit.

It's hit the national news now, and Simcox has nowhere to hide.

Actually they all really care about the issues, but all of a sudden there is a lot of money around and that can change people.

"I agree that the Minuteman volunteers and those who donated money to us have a right to know how much has been collected and on what it has been spent, and I know there is a lot of concern in the ranks regarding finances," Mr. Simcox told The Times. "That's why I sought capable accountants to get those answers, and I intend to make them public as soon as they are available.

"I can't wait for the final audit to answer and embarrass our critics, those who have tried to destroy this organization," he said, blaming the concern about his leadership and accountability on open borders and anti-rule of law lobbyists, racists and "those who were terminated from MCDC for violating our code of conduct."

I think I've heard these talking points before. Do they sound familiar to you?

It had better be good, it certainly will be closely examined. At this point this is looking like a fraud case in the making. It may not come to that, but lots of questions and bad press often go before legal problems.

It is sounding a lot stronger in the Washington Times.

spew on as you wish. Still nothing but unsubstantiated charges, no matter what you or the Washington Times says.

Without facts all you are doing is putting information out on the web to be rehashed and used again.

There is nothing new in this article that has not been posted on the last three threads.

This Times article has not convinced me. Its a collection of hearsay, and sour grapes with little facts.

You are dumber than an outhouse rat. When you point fingers there are 3 pointing back at the originating source.

Find out whose organization this is; and why Jim has it on the front page. You might ask him.

http://www.renewamerica.us/

Find out who owns and runs it. It's the same folks you are slandering in these posts.

Duh.

A great common law judge said "The Devil himself knows not the mind of man." We can only see a man's actions and at this time it does not look good. Think of all the people that gave in good faith. There are a lot of people making a lot of money off of good people who believe.

Oh my, this doesn't look good for Keyes.

Are you surprised?

Take it up with the Times. They must think it is good information or they would not have published it.

I'm not surprised because leftwing websites have been running with this story for weeks. I hope Seper has legitimate sources because these are serious accusations.

It is sounding a lot stronger in the Washington Times.

They don't seem to have done quite all their homework yet. For instance, there's this line from Dr. Keyes:

"I have wished to do all in my power to assist the Minutemen's growth into a national civic movement as quickly as possible — as the public exposure of the lawless state of our southern border is a matter of utmost urgency," he said, adding that his "organizational team has an established history of effective issues advocacy, grass-roots activism, political campaigning, financial accountability, regulatory compliance and fundraising."

The Washington Times should read the FEC filings for Keyes' Declaration Alliance PAC. They will discover that 95% of the funds collected went for fundraising, and only 5% for the stated purpose of the PAC.

They'll also discover that the DAPAC told the FEC that none of its funds were spent for or against any specific federal candidates, when in fact the purpose of the PAC is campaigning for strict conservatives and against liberals.

This was documented on another thread last week.
